One has to wonder if the writer of this article has ever actually watched "The Simpsons".
The flanders family are so obviously used to poke fun at fundamental religion.

Awesome. How refreshing to see such a reasoned rebuttal of ID from one you would expect to be on the other side of the debate. An ideal source for theist friends who will not accept your arguments against ID now they can see it from one of their own.

Re the meaning of Easter.
Try spelling it OESTRE and you find it predates Christianity by a long way. The following is from a google search....
The young God at this time is young and strong, but not yet aware of the responsibilities he will take on, or his impending death at his own hand. It's hard to see in this capricious young buck, the god who will sacrifice himself that others may live and the wheel ever turn.
Some symbols for this time are eggs, rabbits and spring flowers. These symbols are all representative of fertility and new life. The idea that the Earth was hatched from an egg is widespread throughout the world. The Celts believed that the egg was from a snake, symbol of regeneration. Rabbits are a natural symbol of fertility due to their prolific reproduction and also show a deep connection with the Earth because of their underground burrows. Traditionally, rabbits are linked to the moon and therefore the goddess.
It is very common for christianity to incorporate it,s message into already existing Pagan festivals.

Verylee, Geoff thanks for the kind words of welcome.
APPLet I just recently read 1984 for the umpteenth time and was struck, more than on any other reading, by the awful inevitability of it all.I found it a wee bit depressing.
MPhil, agreed about including more of Hesses books. I tossed up about three for which was my favourite.

Hi all this is my first post, actually this is the first thread I haven't felt daunted by. I have been pretty much lurking here for the last couple of weeks since reading TGD and am totally in awe of the level of discussion on this site.I feel I have learned so much already and, who knows, Some day I may pluck up the nerve to post on one of the more serious threads.
Anyway, for what it's worth here is my list.
JRR Tolkein - The Lord of The Rings
Herman Hesse - The Glass Bead Game
George Orwell - Nineteen Eighty-Four
John Steinbeck - The Grapes Of Wrath
Upton Sinclair - The Jungle
