1. Blaming 'The God Delusion'

I kind of see where this guy Eagleton is coming from. Basically, he puts the blame on a total different spot than Dawkins.

It's not like Dawkins doesn't know that religion isn't always the (only) problem, it's just that for Eagleton there's only capitalism to blame.

If only he had read his Marx a little bit more thorough...

On the other hand I've got to agree with him, if only a little: TGD is strongest when Dawkins is talking about his own field of expertise (biology and evolution), and slightly weaker when handling politics. But not *that* much weaker...

2. Religion for a Captive Audience, Paid For by Taxes

Dax (comment #15): "Now, if secular organizations were so rich as religious ones we could file suit for these special programs to be discriminatory towards the non-religious and those of minority religions. Unfortunately, we are not that rich..."

Yeah, that'll teach them.

Seriously: if we percieve these actions as wrong, would the solution really be to turn it around?
If there'd be atheist-sponsored programs like that, that'd be one more reason for religious groups to demand it. And rightfully so, this time around.

Yorker (comment #9): "Nobody defeats him in debate because he's always right."

Seems like you've got a lot of faith.

3. Atheists' bleak alternative

I enjoyed this article quite a bit. In fact, I'm still giggling.

Then again, I probably should take it seriously. But frankly: I can't.
