1. Tablet Ignites Debate on Messiah and Resurrection

Thank you, and likewise.

I'm sorry, but you're not making this any better for yourself with stories like these. And seeing you admit your faith is based on a story, an ancient myth, again, is evidence that blind faith destroys critical thinking.

Well, I mean, I'm not critisizing you personally, I'm critisizing your beliefs, and your lacking of giving Steve Zara a satisfying answer. When discussing with people who aren't religious, you won't get away with just defining what faith is. We know what faith is, and it's that process of just saying, "God did it, it's not for us to understand, he works in mysterious ways...", stuff like that, that really is destroying critical thinking. I'm sure you're capable of critical thinking in many other areas, and that you're a reasonable and sensible person in many ways, that's why it's so hard to understand your blind faith when it comes to religion. Just by saying "it's a matter of faith, so I don't have to understand or be able to explain to you about resurrection" is evidence for me anyway, that faith destroys critical thinking. When it comes to this matter, not your ability for critical thinking in general.

Ha ha... Turns out you did get an answer. Even worse than I suspected. I would actually say, you did NOT get an answer when I think about it. Just defining the word faith is pathetic, and it reveals the stupidity and none thinking of BLIND faith.

Steve Zara;

Of course you have a good point, but a doubt very much you'll get a good answer. This is what blind faith does, it destroys critical thinking, so much so, that I think SupportsChrist doesn't even think your question deserves an answer. After all, Jesus is God, he can do this resurrection business if he wants. We don't need to understand how he does it.

The White Pearl;

Sweet as rain. I'll begin my biology studies soon as well, it'll be bliss. Good luck to ya.

The White Pearl:

But another thing, after your days of vodka drinking, partying, DJing, and studenting, what sort of science carrier do you have in mind? What field? Also; so Casablanca is the picture to see?

"But the music sounds like it belongs in a battle scene...in the hallways of hell..with Orks... "

He he... Good description, I think the band would take it as a compliment. Anywho, everyone's entitled to exclude any genre from their personal playlist, but if you'd give it one more chance, Dream Theater with the song I Walk Beside You or Pull Me Under. That's just mentioning two out of a zillion great songs they have. And most of the bands I listen to don't wear makeup, by the way... :)

Enjoy the sunday.

"Aw, whitepearl, give the guy a break! If he wants to listen to four guys in tight pants and extremely long hair playing indiscriminate riffs at a million miles an hour, who are we to stop him? (Not to mention Black Sabbath's lyrics!)"

He he... Quite a character, you.

Yes, Satyricon is a good band, Dhamma, personally I adore Dimmu Borgir. But the extreme side of metal isn't where I am the most, more of a prog/power guy myself. But there so much even within metal that it's difficult to listen to everything you want. Not to mention all the other genres one likes...

"henning - I was having an old muso's joke. As I said - doesn't matter what genre, when it's good, it's good."

Righto.

"henning - sorry, mate, metal doesn't qualify as music ;)"

More so than country, anyway. But this is subjective, and difficult to come to an agreement on, I guess. It might be a generation thing also, but I'm not really sure. Not that I think listening to, say, Dream Theater, would make you fall in love with metal, but if you did, and still claimed it wasn't music, than I would say your definition of music is severly limited. Anywho, that's my opinion.

Cheers.

"So would those Jewish rebels be members of the Judean People's Front, or the People's Front of Judea....;)"

Ha ha... Funny remark. "If you really wanted to join the P.F.J., you'd have to REALLY hate the Romans." :)

Wether or not ideas like this are new or not, it's always amusing to find more evidence that suggests that christianity is not very original. And it's important to stress it with news items like this one, since not everyone is even aware of the fact that christianity seems to based on earlier ideas and myths.

Nevertheless, thewhitepearl wrote: "My music list preference is long and diverse."

Does metal have a place on this list at all?

Cheers to all from a rainy Norway.

15. New discovery proves 'selfish gene' exists

Comment #198341 by henning on June 23, 2008 at 3:30 pm

"Any thoughts on which might do a better job 'converting' someone?"

According to PZ Myers, getting an understanding of science, what really goes on in the natural world, the universe, often leads people to atheism. I say according to PZ Myers because he's the most recent one I've heard say this. It really should come as no suprise, since science encourages critical thinking, and most importantly for me, gives you an EXTREMELY more grand and beautiful view and understanding of the universe than religion ever could. My point is that The Selfish Gene could be enough itself, but obviously, The God Delusion is a direct critic of religion, and being so, could have a greater impact in respect to converting people to atheism. It all started with The God Delusion for me, som I'm sort of a newcomer! :) Allthough I've been sceptical since around the age of fourteen, fifteen or so.

Cheers from Norway.

16. Discussion between Richard Dawkins and Paula Kirby

Comment #157818 by henning on April 9, 2008 at 3:06 pm

"Were you instructed to give such easy questions or was this your own choice?

Wouldn't you agree that your questions were almost the epitome of "softballs"?"

Some might have been "softballs" as you say, but getting him to explain evolution for instance, can never be done enough. So many people don't know anything about this, and I'm one myself who don't know enough. And since part of the sucbject was The God Delusion, it's only natural that some of the questions and points we've heard before comes up. But good arguments are still good arguments no matter how many times we hear them, and since so many people still have NOT heard them... I thought this was brilliant.

This is one of the best videos with Professor Dawkins I've ever seen! Excellent questions from Paula, and great answers from the Professor, both to Paula's and the audience' questions!

Cheers Paula! :)

18. Happy Birthday, Richard Dawkins!

Comment #149869 by henning on March 26, 2008 at 10:04 am

Happy birthday!

I'm from Norway, and yesterday a Norwegian televison channel had a special on a book show, about atheism. Obviously Richard was there. Loved the way you combatted the critics from our Norwegian intellectual Thomas Hylland Eriksen! Even though I generally like Hylland, his points were not the best yesterday (whenever it was recorded.) You were "unimpressed" you said, and so was I.

Anywho... Keep ut the great work! And thank you very much for this incredibly good site!

Cheers.

19. Blasphemy

And the "blashemous" thing he did was downloading a report from the net on oppression of women... If anything, he should have been rewarded.
