RD's youthful looks just have to be a testimony to keeping the mind alive as one ages!

I like shemp333's idea: feed a blessed wafer to a parrot. If, thereafter, the parrot spontaneously and religiously recites the catechism with a few 'hail Mary's' thrown in, then we'll all know that the cracker's got something going for it.
3. Dalai Lama defends Islam as peaceful religion
Comment #210580 by Uhtred on July 14, 2008 at 8:38 pm
One could only hope that the Dalai Lama was attempting to use a little positive psychology on Muslims, you know, something along the lines of 'treat a man as he is, and he'll remain as he is. Treat a man as he could and ought to be, and he'll become as he could and ought to be'.
My respect for the venerable old man man will be greatly reduced if he meant or intended anything else.

I hope Sylvester Stallone is aware of this 'cause it would be a great script idea for the next Rambo film!
The story line could run something like: The Pope convinces Rambo to come out of retirement on his dad's ranch to rescue abducted holy cracker from atheist cabal. After much death and carnage, where the abductor himself has his spine wrenched out through his mouth, the cracker is safely returned to Church. Perhaps Mel Gibson could direct it (the atheist cabal could be a largely Jewish one)?

Imagine how big those Palestinians must have been a way back then to swallow a tablet that size!?

Happy Birthday Richard!
Truly a candle in the dark.

My daughter heads in from London to New Zealand within the next few days accompanied by a copy of Richard's new book for me.
I'm drooling like Homer Simpson to get my hands on it and begin reading.
10. Richard Dawkins' US Tour begins this week

No chance that RD will visit New Zealand, I suppose :(
The Rolling Stones did and came to my town, which Mick Jagger called it the "arsehole" of the world.
It's really not that bad, RD.
11. Survey shows Non-Religious Outnumber Those of Every Single Faith (But One)
Comment #137940 by Uhtred on March 3, 2008 at 3:47 pm
Even if the percentages are as yet small, it may gather momentum, and is still very encouraging that people are beginning to invest less and less in divisive religion.

A time comes to an end for anyone inclined to trudging around in jungles and deserts looking at wild life. So pleased to read, though, that Sir David will continue to make TV programs.
I can still see the almost childlike wonder on his face when a fossil was exposed in a split rock!

I say destroy its blasphemy now!

"Because this version contradicts the established idea of inflation."
Does it really?
16. Physicist Neil Turok: Big Bang Wasn't the Beginning
Comment #132297 by Uhtred on February 24, 2008 at 3:11 pm
Turok's idea is not necessarily a new one. A universe caught in a never ending cycle of fiery birth, cooling, and fiery rebirth - an ekpyrotic cosmology - was one that Marcus Aurelius was schooled in.
I can't understand why it has received such a fiery/cool reception?
17. Charles Simonyi Professorship in the Public Understanding of Science
Comment #125531 by Uhtred on February 11, 2008 at 2:34 pm
Whoever gets the position, Richard is going to be a hard act to follow.
My nomination would be the young mathematician, and excellent writer, Daniel Harbour. His book, 'An Intelligent Guide to Atheism', was second only to 'The God Delusion' in influencing my own atheism.

Darwin matters because his theory changed everything and helped jettison mountains of bullshit that had been accumulating in the minds of men for millenniums.

Comment #124204 by Uhtred on February 8, 2008 at 6:24 pm
I wouldn't deny that in the past religion has played a role in the history of science, but in saying that, religion's role has been no more significant than that of any other artifact of human invention.
The thing is, religion no longer has any role to play whatsoever other than, perhaps, providing some sort of consolation and solace for those who continue to demand it from the universe.
Actually, what a poor poor thing religion has become.

"Can a scientist believe in the resurrection?"
I guess a scientist can believe anything he or she wants to, but a belief is scientific only if it is supported by sensory and rational evidence.
