Don Herbert last summer, Arthur Clarke this spring ... I am really not liking this trend amongst my childhood heroes.

I really do love listening to Professor Dawkins speak, particularly so when he doesn't have to bandy arguments back and forth with somebody (though those are fun, too).
I agree with you, z8000783, when you say The Ancestor's Tale should be adapted to a multi-part television series. That would be phenomenal!
3. Add another flea to the list...

Kudos to Steve and Paula for having the stomach to work through a Vox Day book. I've never been able to read more than a few pages of The Irrational Atheist at a time.
And it's not as though I'm particularly close-minded towards counter-points. I read John Haught's most recent book, and while I don't necessarily agree with what he wrote, he did so in a reasonably entertaining and intelligent manner.
But The Irrational Atheist is an entirely different sort of beast ...
4. Richard Dawkins on five of his favorite books

Well, a book thread is as good a place as any for my first post. Mine would look something like this:
- On The Road (Jack Kerouac)
- The Count Of Monte Cristo (Alexandre Dumas)
- Against The Day (Thomas Pynchon)
- The Illuminatus! Trilogy (Robert Shea and Robert Anton Wilson)
- The Demon-Haunted World (Carl Sagan)
I specifically neglected to list any books by Professor Dawkins or any other "New Atheism"-related books in an effort for a more eclectic list.
