1. Tablet Ignites Debate on Messiah and Resurrection

Comment #204789 by Border Collie on July 5, 2008 at 6:41 pm

Wonder why they're treating this like it's something new. There's nothing new about world redeemer mythology. It was going on a long, long time before Mr. Jesus.

2. Prayer refusal pupils 'disciplined'

Comment #204788 by Border Collie on July 5, 2008 at 6:37 pm

Not just another isolated incident. A sypmtom of overriding, permeating pathology.

3. Decades Later, Still Asking: Would I Pull That Switch?

Comment #204783 by Border Collie on July 5, 2008 at 6:28 pm

Damn, I thought this had been beat to death when I was an undergrad. If we knew how many imaginary amps they were administering we'd really know how imaginarily dangerous it was. Is imaginarily a word?

4. Merger of U.S. earth science agencies proposed

Comment #204774 by Border Collie on July 5, 2008 at 6:14 pm

Could be good except that it would make it easier for another Bush-like administration to interfere with real science.

5. When too much Rapture is barely enough

Comment #204765 by Border Collie on July 5, 2008 at 5:55 pm

TWP ... I think you and I were hatched from similar eggs. I recognize your stories as if my own. We do live on the buckle of the Bible Belt, though. You on the east diamond eye of Jesus, me on the western one. Although, I never had to do the speaking in tongues, rattlesnakes, tambourines or twin-bicycle mission work.

I've heard this stuff my entire life. It doesn't even affect me any longer. It's just tiring. Well, I guess the implied threats, like the one at the end, still piss me off a little ... the arrogance of believing that one has God in his back pocket, like a loaded pistol ...

6. Christians challenge teaching of evolution

Comment #204540 by Border Collie on July 5, 2008 at 6:30 am

Next they'll simply walk into the classroom and take over ...

9. A secular world is a sane world

Comment #204107 by Border Collie on July 4, 2008 at 6:40 am

"just another angry white man"?

That is the silliest, shallowest description of Pat Condell that I can imagine ...

I can't believe any graduate of the University of Unthinking Politically-Correct Multi-Culural Sanctimony would even come to this site.

11. Science is thrilling - except in our schools

Comment #203693 by Border Collie on July 3, 2008 at 11:24 am

This is nothing new. When Ronald Reagan was first elected president and proceeded to tell Americans 'to not worry about education, we'll teach you everything you need to know', things really started to go to hell in a handbasket. Welcome to this brave new world of superstition, celebrity worship and pure intellectual laziness.

12. Former state science director sues over intelligent design e-mail

Comment #203401 by Border Collie on July 2, 2008 at 8:19 pm

Science education is abysmally weak in Texas as it is. Maybe if she wins it will help a little. It's hellish when one has to file a lawsuit in an attempt to simply create or maintain normalcy.

ModernDayThomas ... fantastic observation. It seems that this entire US culture has turned to tabloid superstition ... with celebreties, preachers, lawyers and politicians informing us about reality.

13. Obama Wants to Expand Role of Religious Groups

Comment #203398 by Border Collie on July 2, 2008 at 8:04 pm

Free trade with Colombia and Mexico ... what a laugh, considering the tons of illegal drugs that have come into the US from those countries over the past decades.

Maybe the joining of church and state isn't so bad. Government money comes with a very high price of government goons looking over your shoulder, the necessity of a huge private bureaucracy to handle the required paperwork, etc. I think they will find that it will simply be cheaper and more effective to ask for private donations. I figure that nothing can ruin a church faster and more effectively than government intervention ... maybe that's a good thing. On the other hand, the prospect of of church/state cooperation in today's political climate is very frightening.

16. Muslims outraged at police advert featuring cute puppy sitting in policeman's hat

Comment #203171 by Border Collie on July 2, 2008 at 12:38 pm

"Tayside Police caused uproar in the Muslim community after they released this advertisement featuring police puppy Rebel sitting in a hat.

The advert has upset Muslims because dogs are considered ritually unclean and has sparked such anger that some shopkeepers in Dundee have refused to display the advert."

WHAT?!

Neither the Tayside Police nor the advertisement have "caused" anything. The general, prevalent insanity of Muslims has caused the uproar.

What a bunch of pussy wankers, backing down from this! Bye, bye, Britian ...

17. Can't Darwin and God get along?

Comment #202618 by Border Collie on July 1, 2008 at 5:19 pm

Darwin lite, Darwin revised, Darwin dumbed down, Darwin absorbed by Christian creation mythology? Just read Darwin, as it is. That's enough.
If I remember correctly, isn't there a very good analysis of why ALL the fossils aren't there in The Blind Watchmaker? Read that too.

18. Biologist Teaches the Nation's Judges About Genetics

Comment #202601 by Border Collie on July 1, 2008 at 4:29 pm

Lack of science knowledge by judges is no surprise to me. In many cases one needs little but the most votes to be a judge. The courts are archaic, fossilized in Texas.

19. It can be right to discriminate against the religious

Comment #202328 by Border Collie on July 1, 2008 at 10:01 am

OK, we can't hate this group any longer so let's invent or choose a group we can hate. Political correctness, the new sanctimony.

20. CFI-UN Hamid Karzai Letter

Comment #202259 by Border Collie on July 1, 2008 at 6:40 am

Nothing but a continuation of the practice of human sacrifice. They've just come up with a 'legal' reason instead of a 'religious' reason. Same barbaric BS, however. I love it ... They believe that their 'god' is great enough to have created the known universe but also petty enough to demand death blood from an Earth creature for a rules infraction. Religions are death cults. Governments are death cults. Put them together and what do you have?

21. Jesus and Mo on Militant Atheists

Comment #202254 by Border Collie on July 1, 2008 at 6:29 am

As usual, Mr. Jesus just isn't keeping up with the times. Get with the program, Mr. J! The phrase should be 'strident atheists' ...

22. A secular world is a sane world

Comment #202049 by Border Collie on June 30, 2008 at 5:50 pm

If anyone wants to get a feel for the sanity and real heart-warming creampuffiness of Islam, go to Pat Condell's website and read the feedback section. I'm sure there's feedback from other equally brotherly love types, but Islam seems to stand out.

23. Who Was More Important: Lincoln or Darwin?

Comment #202026 by Border Collie on June 30, 2008 at 3:58 pm

I have just ascertained why dumbass articles like this are written ... so I can come home after a hard day's work and LMAO at all of your posts ... thanks everyone ... keep 'em comin'!

24. Faith schools undermined by 'Government witch hunt'

Comment #201777 by Border Collie on June 30, 2008 at 8:57 am

Why are secularists constantly described as 'strident'? The two words I'm most sick of are 'strident' and 'robust'. My most-sick-of phrase is 'connect the dots'. What were we talking about?

25. Charles Darwin was not the father of atheism

Comment #201769 by Border Collie on June 30, 2008 at 8:43 am

I guess these guys have to write something, anything, to get their paychecks ...

26. Who Was More Important: Lincoln or Darwin?

Comment #201761 by Border Collie on June 30, 2008 at 8:16 am

The fewer pirates/more global warming guys will love this one ...
To me, this article verges on the tabloid. But, then it seems to be the purpose of American media to attempt to associate things that have little or no relation whatsoever except some artificial thing like a birthday. Maybe there's just nothing to write about any longer.

27. Aliens need Christ's redemption, too

Comment #201425 by Border Collie on June 29, 2008 at 4:23 pm

I hope this guy and Rob Hood get caught together in a hot tub ... he is no loss to the secular world ...
Sorry, 8teist, there is no end ... and, it seems to be expanding exponentially ...
Or maybe the Chinese buffet food I ate for dinner is making me hallucinate ...
Think I'll go take an antacid with a big glass of water ...

28. Richard Dawkins on Doctor Who

Comment #201171 by Border Collie on June 29, 2008 at 10:35 am

My oh my, so some of you think RD is a bad actor? I'd say considering some of the stupid f'ing questions asked of him and his typically civil responses, I'd say he's a very good actor. And besides, he can't hold a candle to Chuck Norris when it comes to bad acting.

29. A secular world is a sane world

Comment #201155 by Border Collie on June 29, 2008 at 8:05 am

Precisely why free speech is a good thing ... Most enjoyable 6:55 I've had in a while ...
Addicts, of whatever type, always think that 'more' of whatever it is, is the solution, the answer ... more product, more often, more quality, more rationalization, etc. This video really points out the need to go the other way with religion, which is an addiction (partly to the emotional enema it provides on a constant basis). Ever wonder why there are so many closet addicts of the religious bent, esp. those involved in sex/abuse type behaviors? They're addicts just doing their thing. Anyway, less religion, no religion ... sounds good to me.
I just read the first linked article. How on Earth could anyone ever get the idea that terrorism and Islam are linked?! Beats me. And, hey, don't worry. They'll wake up in the Netherlands ... when it's too late. And to you'se Euros ... The US is hot on your heels in the politically correct, thought/word police, whining about everything race. I propose that we all stop equivocating about and pandering to Islam. It has shown its face. What else does it need to do to get out attention. Pretending it hasn't is a dangerous waste of time and energy.

30. Your Brain Lies to You

Comment #201021 by Border Collie on June 28, 2008 at 7:17 pm

If a Jewish person marries a Muslim person of the opposite sex and they have children the children will be human.

31. Evangelical grunts

Comment #200949 by Border Collie on June 28, 2008 at 3:16 pm

'special audience for evangelistic outreach'?
Seems like a captive audience to me.
The military is a cult anyway. This just makes it moreso. They only want 'sheeple', to borrow a word, so they're in favor of anthing that enhances the process. This has been going on for decades. The degree of such might be new. I don't know. Who's surprised? I'm not. It must be hell on the soldiers who aren't interested. Personally, I think their time would be better spent learning to be real warriors rather than Christian soldiers.

32. The $10,000-a-Month Psychic

Comment #200888 by Border Collie on June 28, 2008 at 11:58 am

The only explanation I have for this is that apparently she's dealing with a basically detached from reality clientele anyway ... even though it seems idiotic, maybe she just closely observes them and offers a little reality advice which they think is miraculous because they're so wacked out. Or, maybe I'm just dreaming.

34. Common New Atheist Fallacies

Comment #200880 by Border Collie on June 28, 2008 at 11:36 am

I almost feel sorry for these poor saps ... attending this 'seminar' and believing that they've actually gained in knowledge. My guess is that this particular emotional enema simply lightend their pocketbooks to a considerable degree.

36. Common New Atheist Fallacies

Comment #200828 by Border Collie on June 28, 2008 at 9:40 am

I'll buy a ticket to the debate when one of the 'graduates' of this seminar takes Hitch on ... yippie ki yo!

37. PZ Myers - Expelled from Expelled

Comment #200820 by Border Collie on June 28, 2008 at 9:18 am

the great teapot ... my sentiments exactly ... or rename the movie 'Lazarus Revisited ... Revisited ... Revisited ... Revisited ..., etc.' ...
Radical fringe? Why, because he actually uses his brain?

38. Psychiatrists: Least Religious But Most Interested In Patients' Religion

Comment #200812 by Border Collie on June 28, 2008 at 9:09 am

Psychs will use whatever path works to build rapport with their patients. Sometimes it's religion, sometimes it's not. But, religion is so pervasive, it's almost unavoidable. It could be any subject, however.

'it may be because several mental illnesses are known to be associated with hyper-religiosity' ... Truer words were never spoken and I don't think the 'hyper' part is even necessary.

39. Non-voters: It's all in God's hands

Comment #200389 by Border Collie on June 27, 2008 at 12:59 pm

Devil's advocate for the moment here ... and I'm not a bleeding heart whatever and I'm not saying people shouldn't vote ... however, I can understand the apathy of some who don't vote ... I mean, if their lives are going to be miserable (or if they belive such) whether they vote or not, why bother? Furthermore, even if one is intelligent, informed, participatory, etc., look at the US right now and tell me it isn't an extremely difficult decision.

40. God hates Mars

Comment #200240 by Border Collie on June 27, 2008 at 6:34 am

Wait, hold the phone! Is Mars mentioned in the Bible? I can't remember. If not, then it doesn't exist and there's no problem ... we don't have a lander there, we haven't been there, we can't go there, it's all fake and tax dollars aren't being wasted. See how wonderful things are when you just believe and have faith? Rob, buddy, get with the program! Are you a true believer or not? Relax.

(Truly, I have "Christian" friends and acquaintances who actually believe that things not mentioned in the Bible literally do not exist ... things like chihuahuas, cell phones, Ben & Jerry's ice cream, etc., even though they can see them. I guess that the "mystery" of such delusion will be explained all in good time in Heaven. Furthermore, lest we get the incorrect idea that it's just Christians, it's not. I know Krishnas who believe that the Earth is "flat", we didn't go to the moon, blah, blah ...)

41. Stop distorting young minds!

Comment #200021 by Border Collie on June 26, 2008 at 4:07 pm

Tell me it ain't so! So, you UK guys get taxed and don't have a damned say-so in how your taxes are utilized. So, I guess your taxes are already supporting the teaching of creationism/ID? Sounds like living in the US. I reckon I'll just stay here then.

42. The Latest Wedge Document

Comment #199908 by Border Collie on June 26, 2008 at 1:41 pm

If you're from Texas and or have ever been to Louisiana, none of this is surprising. Distressing, but not surprising. Take a trip through east Texas and or Louisiana some time. You'll think you've been transported to the Dark Ages. Problem is that legislators are the biggest ass kissers on the face of the Earth. They will say/do anything for the votes of the redneck, brain-dead creationists. They don't care what's being taught in the schools as long as the schools produce tax-paying voters. And, we have to remember, the legislators are products of those same schools. I'm gonna go take an aspirin.

43. Creationist critics get their comeuppance

Comment #199899 by Border Collie on June 26, 2008 at 1:27 pm

We have to remember that creationists are from the bozone (an as yet undiscovered layer of the Earth's atmosphere, or maybe not ... it might be somewhere else in the solar system ... I'm not sure if that's the correct definition, but it's close, I think) ... their cortexes are teflon and their brains are hollow ... we might just as well attempt to communicate with fruits and vegetables at the farmers' market ... try tomatoes first ...

44. God hates Mars

Comment #199642 by Border Collie on June 26, 2008 at 6:01 am

From reading the posts this morning, it seems as if I should have been drinking whatever you guys are/were drinking. How did the chocolate thing get started? This will sound like the most outrageous bs you've ever heard, but some of the best chocolate on this planet is made right here in Fort Worth ... The Sweet Shop. They're on the Internet. I don't work for them. But, that's another story.
I was still pissed off about this article when I woke up this morning. Just what we need is another screeching idiot out there lambasting science. Like there's nothing else in the national budget that could be cut to save billions of dollars for infrastructure repair & replacement. Yes, we need that other stuff, but let's see, how much has been spent in Iraq? (Sorry Hitch) And, had the US gov spent all the Iraq/Afgan war money on kickstarting solar/wind/etc., we'd probably be well on our way there (telling the Saudis to kiss our arses) by now. I don't see much sense in sending humans on some of these proposed space trips (yet), I think advanced robotics can do a better, less expensive job without risking humans. I just hope that the screeching idiots don't stop science in its tracks.

45. God hates Mars

Comment #199406 by Border Collie on June 25, 2008 at 5:52 pm

Didn't catch the name of the series that I caught a piece of last night on Discovery about the US space program. One of the astronauts said while the credits were running ... "We went to the moon nine times! Why would we fake it nine times?!" I entered part of that quote on Google. All I got was page after page of 'we didn't go to the moon' conspiracy crap. Sometimes I simply can't believe how damned stupid people are. We didn't go to the moon, there is no global warming, evolution is a lie, God and or Satan put those fossils in/on the Earth to test our faith, etc., ad nauseum ... I'm gonna take an aspirin ... There are many things that taxpayer money is wasted on ... the space program is not one of them ...

46. God hates Mars

Comment #199401 by Border Collie on June 25, 2008 at 5:35 pm

I can't tell you how many people I know who hold these same idiotic "ideas". They are generally right-wing, church-going, ultra-conservative types who want tax money to only go for things that benefit them immediately, directly. And, they want only other people to pay those taxes. They absolutely don't want to pay any taxes themselves. Screw 'em. I like the space program.

47. Galaxy map hints at fractal universe

49. An Interview with Prof. Richard Dawkins

Comment #199227 by Border Collie on June 25, 2008 at 10:55 am

'As a lifelong atheist ...... BUT, blah, blah, blah ...' As always, I have immense admiration for Dr. Dawkins. I find it astounding that he can answer the same old over-answered questions, over and over and over again, with civility, intelligence, grace and politeness. I hope there's a day when we can leave religion at the doorstep and simply get on with moving into the immensity of the unknown.
