I would like to read some of these, but I have the feeling that I would be reading the same material over and over again. Plus, the last thing I want to do is hand over my hard earned money to these piggybackers.
know thy enemy, right? It'll probably be like reading through a brick wall...

whats so hard about saying we don't respect your belief, only your right to hold one?
It seems that people confuse the two. I would be the first to say Bill Donohue can believe any idiotic thing he wants. But I must also claim the right to ridicule his childish beliefs to the best of my ability.

Yet another example of religion promoting bigotry and hatred. And I have to respect that? No thanks
don't sign me up for that.
You can sign up for a job, and for a religion. If theres a conflict between the two, give up the job, or give up the faith. It's pretty simple actually.

All I must say is that when one uses this argument, it tells you a lot about that person.
7. That's not MY God or Religion you're criticising

I find that quite often Sugaree. A shape shifting god is difficult to pin down, until they try to describe it. Ask the theist to describe their god, its a question they don't really like at all.
I once heard someone say they believed in god, and went on to say it could be a ball of energy. Fine I said, I would say you believe in a ball of energy. Also, if god is that, on what basis do you know this? You have access to some vast reservoir of knowledge no scientist has yet tapped thats for sure, so please indulge us...

"I'm so servile and blind I need my space daddy to tell me what its all about"
Off the defensive. Why do you need permanent emperor of the universe to deign to you certain tasks or purposes? And what does that say about the person saying this...you must wonder
9. Most religious people are moderate, and don't hurt anybody
Comment #182347 by moneybags on May 19, 2008 at 7:54 pm
I feel we can use the Overton window to describe the debate on religion. As anyone in the States can see, the window has been pushed so far towards the religious side that any slightly unpleasant mention of religion is treated as "shrill and strident" as Dawkins, Hitchens and Harris well know.
A "moderate" in this shifted window is clearly not a moderate in any reasonable sense. The moderate is being tugged by the extremist towards their side, and is now the shield for protecting religious demagogues as Sam Harris has noted. A secular tug on the other end is needed to 'pull' the window towards the center, and eventually to our side.
The so called "vast majority" of moderates are actually lean way more towards theocracy then they realize. Also, the moderate position is the most untenable, at least the extremist is honest about his views. That is a quality I can respect, not their views but the ability to take a stance. A moderate purports to be the so called "sensible" person, but in reality they betray both reason and faith.
For instance, a moderate says you shouldn't speak ill of religion here in the states, but we should applaud their missionary work in the third world. This work consists of exchanging bible classes for treatments for disease, a deal which any sensible person would take. What happened to multi-cultural etiquette? We must form a shield around faith over here, where people can actually fight back but the pious have free reign to coerce those in less fortunate positions into their cult? Its inconsistent and completely cowardly.

I remember Hitchens once said on Bill Maher's show "you find some preacher thundering on about fagotry and he'll be found down on his lousy knees".
while this case doesn't involve homosexual hypocrisy, the same sentiment applies.
