Sent email in support. Bill Donohue is an ass, and braying defines him perfectly. There is a wonderful YouTube video in which he wants to take Christopher Hitchens and fight him [probably behind a bar]. During the exchange he repeatedly says that when an Irishman speaks an Englishman must be quiet. If he represents the Catholic League, the organization must be very hard up for brains.

I suppose being a militant "Separation of Church and State" type it should come as no surprise that I find even the basic premise of "demonstrating" any religious practice disturbing. Are the students going to bind on tefillin? Orthodox Jews would find this exercise very disrespectful. Care to guess what the response of a Muslim might be to this? I don't actually care what the motivation of the teacher was or how right wing the reporting was, this kind of stuff should not be encouraged. At the very least it shows some pretty poor judgment on the part of the teacher.

What is the matter with the non muslim people in that community? They should be screaming bloody murder. We need to quit accomodating this ---ing nonsense.

Actually, I went to HS in LA during the '60s, and World Religions was a part of my Freshman World Civ class. It was my first exposure to Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, etc. Apparently, that is no longer the case. This was the perfect non-confrontive exposure to the creeds of the world. Too bad we don't still do this.
