1. Christian Couple Staying Together For Sake Of God

May I just say... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! This is what rational people are up against?

-Crap, totally didn't catch that it was from the Onion, funny stuff anyways!

2. God Only SEEMS Nonexistent!

To the folks that didn't understand this as satire:

Are you kidding?!? If you didn't laugh (and understand that this was satire) at the text message and copyright at the end of the DNA sequence that's just sad.

From Grandma: "Heaven is teh shit"

Brilliant! LOL

3. Theocratic Sect Prays for Real Armageddon

Don't worry FatherNature. God is angry with the GOP, that's obviously why he sent hurricane Gustav, to spoil their party.

4. Better Know a Lobby - Atheism

I get the feeling that many of those posting here who don't understand Colbert are probably not from the US. If you had been watching our rediculous conservative news pundits for the past decade I think Colbert would make more sense.

When people post here that he's being disrespectful, well, ya, that's the gag and I can't imagine anyone going on his show that didn't know exactly what they were in for.

TEACH THE CONTROVERSY!!! Richard should be a required guest speaker in all of these classes to point out the "gaps" in religious "theory"!

The most likely reason for finding planets with short periods is that they are easier to detect with both the wobble method and the blocked light method. If the planet had an orbit that was very long (a year or more) you have to observe the star for a longer time to see the wobble caused by the planet's gravity. Also, you would have to be looking at the star at JUST the right time to see the light from the star dim due to a planet passing between us and the star (if you were not using the wobble detection method.

If the planet is orbiting quickly the wobble is more pronounced because it's happening at a higher rate. You would also have a better chance of seeing the star dim because of a planet passing in front of it (second detection method).

7. Logical Proof of the Existence of a Divine Creator, Why Atheism is Not Logically Sound

Comment #190796 by wiz220 on June 9, 2008 at 3:07 pm

Wow! This must be a record! The first logical fallacy happens in the THIRD paragraph:

"The simplest proof (yet one that no atheist has ever been able to counter effectively) is that a universe of this size and magnitude does not somehow build itself, just as a set of encyclopedias doesn't write itself or form randomly from the spill of a massive inkblot."

*sigh*

Not sure I can get through this one...

8. Teacher tortures, kills boy

I'm amazed that he's being arrested at all! Now if this had been a girl, he would probably be given a medal.

Frankus, the term "In God we trust" is by no means a true representation of the US's foundation. It was placed on our currency in the 1950's because we were in the middle of the Cold War and seeing as how communism was synonymous with atheism we needed to prove how "godly" we were in order to defeat the commies. So, we got "In God we trust" on our currency and "UNDER GOD" inserted into our pledge of allegiance.

It is sad that the vast majority of Americans are not aware of this and truly think that these two nonsensical terms have been with us since the founding of the country. This lack of education amongst the general public (combined with the unwillingness of fundies to accept the facts) are why it is now so difficult to get the terms removed.

10. Animal Science Without Evolution

Comment #184817 by wiz220 on May 26, 2008 at 8:47 am

The most interesting thing to me is how they say that the book is "accessible to children" and in the next sentence talking about dinasaurs they say that it makes you a "virtual expert in the field".

I suppose my point is, how in depth can a book be if it's child friendly to read AND makes you an "expert". What a slap in the face to REAL scientists who have studied for a lifetime to be considered experts in a given field.

11. Teenager faces prosecution for calling Scientology 'cult'

Comment #182618 by wiz220 on May 20, 2008 at 4:29 pm

First of all, is there a British equivalent to the US's ACLU? If there was this kid would be getting represented for free.

Second, the term "abusive and insulting" is about the WORST thing you could have put into this rediculous piece of legislation. It's far too broad, not to mention that rights to free speech exist specifically FOR this purpose, to protect speech that "insults". Every time some IDiot says Darwin is to blame for the Holocaust I'm insulted, but I'm not taking any of those morons to court.

"The patient leaves feeling different and knowing that they have been touched by Jesus Christ,"

If Jebus ever touches me I'm telling a grown up or a policeman!

13. God seekers go public

Comment #179358 by wiz220 on May 13, 2008 at 6:53 am

Oh dear... These guys just don't quit! I suppose they see now how they must manipulate the public which generally has a very shoddy understanding of science.

14. The Stupidity of Dignity

Comment #179047 by wiz220 on May 12, 2008 at 12:52 pm

We can only hope that the next president returns us to a state of normalcy that takes us off of the road to theocracy, that they will appoint and consult with people who believe in rational thought.

Sadly I believe the new battlecry of the religious right is to call people that are intelligent critical thinkers "elitests". And the worst part is that it's working. :(

16. Trouble ahead for science

Comment #177501 by wiz220 on May 9, 2008 at 7:46 am

"Science leads you to killing people." Wow! Just WOW! I really don't know what else to say.

I wonder if Ben Stein realizes that this is EXACTLY the type of thinking that brings about periods like the dark ages. When you make reason, rationality and critical thinking your enemy only darkness lies ahead.

Someone should tell Ben that he is almost certainly alive today only BECAUSE of science, particularly medical science. He should strip his life of all things created with the help of science and the scientific method, living in a cave, never to bother humanity again with his verbal diarrhea.

17. An Atheist Goes Undercover to Join the Flock of Mad Pastor John Hagee

Comment #176980 by wiz220 on May 8, 2008 at 12:20 pm

Boy, reading the clown and whale stories just about made me lose it, brilliant!

I think the guy calling out the demons could have saved a WHOLE lot of time and energy by just lumping many of the demons together and saying, "In the name of Jebus, I cast out all demons that have helped advance civilization." This way he would have covered demons like philosophy and intellect in one fell swoop.

Some others however (astrology, handwriting analysis etc.) certainly deserved to be called out by name and I agree with his decision to do so since they are truly dangerous! :)

I wish that Borat would have crashed THIS party!

18. The History Channel might do something right

Comment #176059 by wiz220 on May 6, 2008 at 1:07 pm

I'm glad to see the History channel doing something useful. Especially after so many rediculous shows like a mini-series on the anti-christ as though it was factual and needed serious investigation and consideration.

19. Student's 'Be Happy, Not Gay' t-shirt ok

Comment #172176 by wiz220 on April 29, 2008 at 10:05 am

I must say that in this particular case I agree with the comment mentioning that school kids are a "captive audience". In every-day public life a person can remove themselves from a situation where they don't agree with certain speech by changing the TV channel or radio station, or simply walking away from someone saying things they don't like outside.

A child in school does not really have that option. Wouldn't this be analagous to the way that you don't have completely free speech in the work-place?
