1. Sean Hannity with Christopher Hitchens

What is the point of conducting an interview, where the interviewer is doing all the talking? If this was indeed the entire interview as seen on TV ,then it is clear that it has been edited to excise the stronger points that Hitchens usually makes when dealing with boneheads like Hannity.

I am Canadian and I know full well who Preston Manning is . Founder of the Reform Party of Canada,as well as the conservative Alliance party.
Manning is wrong on all points made . The secular values of the enlightenment are the ones under attack in todays arena, and they are argued for in a calm and rational manner by the likes of Mr Dawkins and Mr Harris.
Facts are not negotiable, that is why they are called facts. All views of reality are not subjective. Some are based on evidence. If one has a problem with established scientific theory, go and disprove it ! Otherwise, keep it in your church and away from the science classroom . That is not an extremist view. That is standing up for rationalism and the separation of chuch and state.

Always good to listen to a debate with Hitchens . I think the basic point of points Hitchens tries to make above all is "why would you believe such things to be true", and its a good one. Why do you insist that some of Jesus` teachings are that of God when they were part of almost every other religious teaching previous to the Abrahamic religions , not unique in any way , but highly evolutionary in origin.
On the last word. Hitchens is praised for being non-relativistic in regards to morality . This is the usual charge to non-theists regarding morality "where do you get your morality from" everything is man made ,everything must be relative. This ,to me has always seemed to be classic projection of the religionists greatest fear. The Euthyphro argument - Is what god says is good simply so because he says it ,or because it is inherently good. Then "good " could be anything? If not ,then from where did Gods standard of the good come from. The infinite stack of Turtles again.
4. Christopher Hitchens on Religion

The usual emotion driven arguments. "My Daughter got sick and after a long course of treatment ..my prayer saved her" "God is changing peoples lives" Well ..most cults do change peoples lives . There are thousands of false issusionary beliefs out there. Jim Jones,Heavens Gate,Ramtha School of Enlightenment, to name a few.
Then there is always the woman that calls in whom has invented her own God . Her God is always loving and intimately involved in every aspect of her life. Her God explains all the things that she does not understand.
And there is always someone that declares that science can NEVER explain the deeper mysteries of the universe, therefor an eternal super entity has to exist. Wouldn`t the existence of an eternal super entity pose an even greater mystery than the universe does? How do they get all the way to "super entity " from "I don`t know"
Personal experience ,testimony, that is nothing more than a prejudice to see the world in non-rational terms . It is bigotry at its finest.

I think Bill Maher is hilarious myself . Though the term "Apatheist" isn`t what I would call a coherent position. One either accepts a proposition to be true or false. To say that there is no way of knowing either way is garden variety Agnosticism which is what Mahers` position clearly is.
Bill Mahers` stand on religion is mainly due to his opposition to its harmful effects in world politics and culture. He is very much like Sam Harris in that respect, though not as strong in his intellectual arguments against the God concept itself .

Bahah! Loved the family guy bit with God and his roomie. I have full cable ,but I don`t watch tv much anymore ,except for "Myth Busters" on the Discovery channel ,and the occasional good doc.
8. Debate between Alister McGrath and Peter Atkins
Comment #27817 by Rick777 on March 27, 2007 at 12:03 am
This was a classic debate of this type . The basic issue being epistemology, which was touched on several times by Prof Atkins but was not responded to in any meaningful way whatsoever by McGrath. When pushed by an audience question to clarify , McGrath went straight to the New Testament, I think this pretty much answered that question.
Prof McGrath loves the argument from 'meaning and purpose",but never once explained how belief in a ubiquitous disembodied entity gave meaning to ones life that would not be there if there wasn`t one? I think Ian McGinn might have been a good match for McGraths` codswollop on that point.
Faith can transform your life ? Well, I just watched a documentary on the Discovery channel here in Canada regarding the "Heavens Gate " cult and subsequent mass suicide. Every person interviewed in that cult prior to their group demise found ultimate meaning and purpose that transformed their lives . Right down to gleefully showing off their Star Trek like uniforms emblazened with "Heavens Gate AWAY TEAM" patches !
9. Why there are almost no genuine atheists
Comment #24662 by Rick777 on March 8, 2007 at 12:15 am
The writer of this column seems to be stuck in a view that is fueled by his lack of understanding . Primarily that of evolution by natural selection and morality in general.
If an atheist were to say we SHOULD preserve biodiversity it is because they most likely have an understanding that biodiversity is important to the continued survival of our species as well as the biosphere as a whole.
That mankind has existed for a blink of cosmic time is a statement of fact. Putting forward the view that a genuine atheist should therefor not care about the future of mankind is nothing but a statement of this writers personal bigotry and ignorance of the moral values of non religious people.
The presupposition of "God is" and "all good things come from God" therefor non believers cannot be good, is the basic idea behind this article.

So many false statements and outright slanderous lies . I would have to spend a week going over them all to even begin to address the falsehoods and mischaracterizations McGrath is guilty of here . This reminds me of Kent Hovind and his tirade against the "Evil Lie" of Evolution.

What is this ? ..some lame argument for subjectivism? Why did they bother?
It horifies me to think what goes through the minds of these people as they fall asleep at night.

14. 'Hobbit' human 'is a new species'
Comment #19962 by Rick777 on January 30, 2007 at 10:01 pm
I`de done a bit of research on this several months ago . The count of skeletons was at about a dozen from what I`de heard at the time, this put to rest the assumption of a small stature microsephalic of some kind. This story really doesn`t shock me all that much though. Many downsized offshoots of other species have been documented in isolated environments such as islands.
I think getting into the habbit of calling them Hobbit people is rather unwise though . This can only bring on unwarranted ridicule for what is an important new discovery that needs to be taken seriously.
It is interesting to note, the people of Flores have a folklore surrounding tiny people of the forest that have been know to steal babies?

I would have to disagree with this approach to freeing the world from the delusion of religion. It`s approach to cutting off ties with Christian doctrine will only be seen by the truly religious as ..well..essentially ..the work of satan. It may well be viewed as a form of abuse on the young . It is my understanding that, if someone comes to Atheism , it should be through a well reasoned line of thought ,not a viral internet movement of sorts.
