The Australian practice, called subincision in western societies, can be pretty hardcore, sometimes extending up the penis shaft to create a slit.
I once made a 12mm thick stainless steel ring (approx. 60mm internal diameter)for a guy who had a hole through the base of his penis that emerged from behind his scrotum. Apparently this modernised version was based on an old pygmy contraceptive method/rite of passage. He wore it at parties.

Interesting name Kent. It's derived from a Pre-Roman tribal group of Britons called the Cantii (bloody heathens and pagans!). The county capital, Canterbury (Durovernum Cantiacorum), also retains this original Iron Age root meaning. Sorry, higly irrelevant post, but I like placenames (geek).

Just curious, but is there any evidence to suggest that animals show any signs of religious behaviour? If so what?

It's beautiful how even the smallest and simplest of lifeforms can make humans look so humble.

Think of the merchandising! Pillars of salt, scale models of Noah's Ark, fragments of the true cross, foreskins of the smited, "I went to Bible Park and all I got was this shitty T-shirt". Hell, let's go the whole hog and have a Quran theme park: Islamaland and Mickey-Mujahiadeen ("Daddy daddy- can I have a Abraham-burger pleeeaaassee"). Mmmmm, taste that fat, holy, cash cow.
