1. The simple falsehood at the heart of Expelled

Hi Philiproulx,

Just because something is doesn't mean it should be... Sure, nature practices 'eugenics' - ruthlessly and to devastating effect. It has no option in the matter as there is no alternative.

There's nothing about that fact which compels us, who do have choices and alternatives, to think we ought to take our moral lessons from there and follow suit.

Regs... Megs

Re Free Will:

I've always heard Free Will offered as the answer to why God allows 'evil' to exist if he is omnipotent, omnibenevolent and omniscient. (That is, if God didn't allow evil we couldn't have Free Will - we'll ingore for now the part about that being a limit on God's omnipotence and omniscience!).

So when confronted with this argument I always ask - Is there 'evil' in Heaven? (No...). Is there 'Free Will' in Heaven? (Yes...).

So what is their problem then? They always admit that Free Will can exist without evil!

So what is it? God knows how but can't do? God could do but doesn't know how? Or he just doesn't want to?

None of the above, of course. He just isn't there.

Happy Birthday Richard!

But really, do you have to keep going from strength to strength? Have you no pity for us lesser beings? How on Earth are we ever to keep up with you?

You make me breathless!

Regards,
Megan

Happy Birthday to you, Richard! I hope it's the best day of your life so far - and the worst of what's yet to come.

As a small token of my appreciation I am going to buy the paperback of TGD and release it into the wild. Such fun!

Regards,
Megan

5. Changing my Mind

I haven't used this before so have no idea if it is 'answering' the right thread. If I've stuffed it up, sorry.

Re: What to do with JW's etc.

I always invite them in and tell them that I would be very happy to listen to them, properly listen, so long as they will return the courtesy and give me equal time to present my point of view.

So far they've all accepted but, after my turn, they don't return for years. Usually they mutter something about not knowing the answers to my questions/points and promise that they'll be back after they've found out from an 'elder'.

This is all never a waste of time, for me, because I love to study them as people. I'm really fascinated. Plus, there's always the tiny chance that having listened to me they might start to question their own beliefs. Particularly since the answers they are meant to get from their 'elders' never seem worthy enough to convey to me.

6. To be Read at my Funeral

I don't know where the following came from, it just 'popped out' of me one day. I've got a strong feeling I've read it somewhere ages ago and can't remember (really, I got epilepsy a few years ago and it seems to 'wipe' some of my memories, jolly nuisance...) If anyone knows the author please let me know? Anyway, it pretty much sums up my attitude:

If you're just dying to live
While life is slipping on by
Then turn the tables on death
And Live! Until you die.
