Well I've sent off an email to Richard Herring and Misty Cambray voicing my alarm at their seeming discriminatory practices. Be interesting to see if I get a reply. For those interested the content of my letter is below.

Dear Mr Herring,

I was quite disturbed to hear that your company has dismissed out of hand a proposal by the Atheist Foundation of Australia to run an advertising campaign on the sides of buses for which you hold the advertising rights. According to an interview on the ABC radio Religious report attempts to accommodate an inoffensive wording by the group were dismissed out of hand, even the final quite inoffensive wording of "'Atheism - Celebrate reason'.

I fail to see any reason why this should be the case as your company quite widely displayed advertising for Catholic World Youth Day. You have already set the precedent for for advertising a religious minority so you cannot use the excuse that a non theistic message would cause offence as you have already displayed advertising that could be deemed offensive to non-Roman Catholics and non-theist alike.

In light of your refusal to accept this adverting campaign, without any evidence to suggest otherwise I can only assume that your company is running a campaign of censorship and denial of free speech which is in stark contrast to other leading Democracies such as The United Kingdom and the United States of America where similar moves by secular and humanist groups are being run.

I look forward to your reply to explain your actions and present reason as to why I should not raise a complaint about your actions with the Anti Discrimination Board.

I suspect its just an aberration, but every time I see the word Mormon printed somewhere I initially see the word Moron.

This reminded me of a story I watched on television about an infamous bank siege in the USA a few years back where the bank robbers were heavily armed with assault rifles and full body armour. A policeman was critically wounded and had to be retrieved under fire by his colleagues. He almost died and even then nearly lost a leg.

What astounded me was that he gave most of the credit for his survival to god, with much lesser thanks to the courage and selflessness of his fellow officers whom risked their own lives to save his. As for the skill and dedication of the host of medical staff, from the ambulance crew through to doctors and nurses, that toiled for hours if not days and weeks to save not only his life but also his leg, they hardly got a mention. It was all due to big sky daddy. As an emergency services worker myself(volunteer rural fire brigade) his attitude made me want to puke.

Yet another attack on freedom of thought and a victory for the repressive forces masquerading as, or more truthfully, that is religion.

Mind you I can see the benefits for a government that wants to maintain and increase its control over the populace. Kill training for individual thought and you have to deal with and control fewer groups. And those groups are full of people with no idea how to think for themselves.

So cute little puppies are unclean and offensive, but honour killings, female circumcision, stoning, murdering someone who leaves the faith or is an apostate are all fine. Hitler targeted the wrong religion. (and yes that last bit is sarcasm people)

How is it that the technological giant that is the USA can fail to have standards for home schooling and have students not sit the same tests as those in public education. In Australia it doesn't matter if you are from a public, private or home school you still have to sit the same standardised examinations to pass.

I have a Tolkien Bestiary that would appear more relevant and scientifically accurate than this bullshit.
