1. God, Evolution and Charles Darwin

Comment #249504 by Al420 on September 18, 2008 at 8:08 am

The author completely missed the point of that article in The Onion. "Evolutionists Flock To Darwin-Shaped Wall Stain", this guy must have no sense of humor to not get that this is a stab at the religious.

6. Do they really think the earth is flat?

Comment #224588 by Al420 on August 5, 2008 at 7:36 am

What profit?!
Who makes money off of the fact that we know the earth is round? (without using the fact that the earth is round)

If they are SO sure that it's a disk, why don't they walk to the edge and take a picture?
We've got a picture, they have words.

7. PZ Myers Desecrates a Eucharist

Comment #222817 by Al420 on August 1, 2008 at 12:23 am

That was just plain stupid. I can't imagine anyone laughing at something so.... well, stupid.

8. Vicar supports Life of Brian ban

Comment #222809 by Al420 on July 31, 2008 at 11:50 pm

Where did people get the idea that they have a right not to be offended?
It's absolutely ludicrous! (not to mention offensive...)

9. Is Killing Liberals a Hate Crime?

Comment #222805 by Al420 on July 31, 2008 at 11:44 pm

Hate crimes are bullshit.
Hate crime legislation is a clear attempt at policing thought. A murder is no worse a crime if it is committed out of bigotry than out of enjoyment of killing.
The only thing we should be concerned with is making sure a murderer cannot repeat their crime(s). It is not our duty to punish them or bring "justice" to the victim(s), but simply to prevent them from killing again.
It's really quite simple.

There are some smart people down here in Texas, we all just went to private schools.

11. Nine face stoning death in Iran

Comment #216239 by Al420 on July 22, 2008 at 9:15 pm

I've been reading the bible and thinking how horrible it would be to live in a society with those morals. But here it is, in the 21st century.

12. Bush Bureaucrats at Dept. of Health and Human Services Redefine Contraception as Abortion

Comment #213795 by Al420 on July 18, 2008 at 10:51 pm

RationalFreeThinker, thanks, that was very helpful. Made me feel slightly less useless...

P.S. To those who think that voting for Obama will help: Sorry, but we're fucked either way.
Obama's redeeming quality is that he isn't going senile quite yet (admittedly, a pretty big plus).
As for McCain, if he picks a good VP and then dies in office, we might actually have someone worthy in the highest office. But there's a lot more chance of him dying than there is of him picking a half decent running mate.

We'll probably end up with Obama, but either way, there will be nothing to celebrate (Unless it turns out he IS a secret atheist... Fingers crossed).

13. Ten Commandments' of race and genetics issued

Comment #212995 by Al420 on July 18, 2008 at 1:20 am

"I'd argue that there is more genetic disparity between the socially constructed groups that people identify as "races" than just those genes that determine hair color. "

Of course there are differences between races!
We womenfolk come across the same problem with hypersensitivity to sexism as 'minorities' [sorry, but I lack a better word(and I know women are also considered a minority)] do when it comes to racism. Of course we are different. The problem comes when we start saying being different is bad, or that even the IDEA of difference is bad.

15. Ten Commandments' of race and genetics issued

Comment #212982 by Al420 on July 18, 2008 at 12:31 am

Why are some of you getting so worked up about "All races are created equal"? It is clearly a reference to the Declaration of Independence, not some underhanded sneaking of Creationism into a scientific document.
If anything, I think it being called the "ten commandments" is just a way of making it easier for Christians to swallow.

16. Bush Bureaucrats at Dept. of Health and Human Services Redefine Contraception as Abortion

Comment #212974 by Al420 on July 18, 2008 at 12:07 am

Of course no one has the right to deny you medical care because their imaginary friend 'told' them to!
It's all very well to bitch and moan about this, but what can we DO about it? What can I do about it?
These aren't rhetorical questions, I really, emphatically want answers.

17. Anti-Darwinists turned away by Israeli academia

Comment #212174 by Al420 on July 16, 2008 at 6:49 pm

Religious people are always so touchy. The University didn't want to invite discussion of creationism, so they obviously chose "to maintain the radical image of Islam".
Not to maintain the good name of Charles Darwin

19. Fury at funeral songs ban

Comment #212167 by Al420 on July 16, 2008 at 6:26 pm

When I die I want to be turned into bio-diesel, and the funeral will happen in a moving car running on me. And if anyone mentions religion in a non-derisive way, they can walk home.

20. 'Condoms won't change HIV rates'

Comment #212159 by Al420 on July 16, 2008 at 6:03 pm

I guess it makes some since if you really, truly believe that the people who you are sentencing to death will have everlasting euphoria after the fact. But does that make it any less despicable?

Also, Abstinence-only sex ed?!?
Either teach our children safe sex, or don't. Don't just tell them not to fuck because it makes god cry.

21. Fury at funeral songs ban

Comment #211305 by Al420 on July 15, 2008 at 6:12 pm

How dare you try to mourn the dead, we're trying to have a funeral here!

22. Atheists only promote divisiveness, as any other separatist movement.

Comment #206731 by Al420 on July 8, 2008 at 5:46 pm

And I suppose religion promotes unity?
Well, I guess it does in that if you kill off everyone who disagrees with you, all that remain will probably be unified...

23. Non-voters: It's all in God's hands

Comment #200283 by Al420 on June 27, 2008 at 8:50 am

I think it could very well be a correlation, in that people who don't take an interest in world affairs are more likely to believe in a god who takes care of things for them. It's like the violent video game debate; Do violent video games make children violent, or are violent children drawn to violent things?

I like how they put the civil rights movement and christian conservativism in a sentence as if they were along the same lines. Nice try.

24. Rapture site sends unbelievers their last chance ... via email

Comment #196360 by Al420 on June 19, 2008 at 7:03 pm

Brilliant! If only I had no conscience, I could be (in the immortal words of Daffy) rich! Rich! Fabulously Wealthy!

25. Darwinists for Jesus

Comment #196356 by Al420 on June 19, 2008 at 6:56 pm

I'll take it. They're preaching about Genesis in science class, at least now we have someone teaching evolution in church.
I wonder about his views on gay fish, though...

26. It Doesn't Take an Einstein

Comment #196348 by Al420 on June 19, 2008 at 6:35 pm

Only a theologian would have the audacity to call Stephen Hawking naive.

27. Teen's death blamed on faith healing

Comment #196343 by Al420 on June 19, 2008 at 6:14 pm

All I can say is that it's fucking child abuse. Even though a 14 year old is legally allowed to decide these things for themself, this boy wasn't able to decide, he was denied the tools needed to make a decision. Freedom of (and from) religion applies to your children too.

28. A New Pope

Comment #186155 by Al420 on May 29, 2008 at 6:11 pm

Can we be entirely sure this isn't the real thing?
Seems pretty indistinguishable to me...

29. Gay scientists isolate Christian gene

Comment #186153 by Al420 on May 29, 2008 at 6:06 pm

Very funny.
And one of the most poignant things I've seen on the internets.

30. Beware the Believers

Comment #186150 by Al420 on May 29, 2008 at 6:01 pm

I Don't think it's just your age showing. I'm 17 and I daresay I'm just as confused.

31. Pascal's Wager

Comment #185232 by Al420 on May 27, 2008 at 8:29 am

Au Contraire, Mr. Pascal, you stand to lose your only life's worth of wonder and learning.

I'll concede that their is an infinitesimal chance that there is, indeed, some sort of supernatural force in the universe. But, I think it's a safe bet that anything that man could imagine wouldn't come close to its reality.

32. Science can answer how questions but only religion can answer why questions

Comment #185222 by Al420 on May 27, 2008 at 8:18 am

Religion can't answer either question. All it can do is divert us from an endless quest for knowledge and understanding.

33. The Transcendental Argument for God

Comment #185221 by Al420 on May 27, 2008 at 8:14 am

The fact that the universe wasn't created by a rational being doesn't compromise rationality at all. Flawed logic. Transcendentalism seems to employ a lot of it.

34. Atheists don't believe in anything

Comment #185216 by Al420 on May 27, 2008 at 8:05 am

I can't speak for all atheists, but I don't believe anything. In fact I find it more than a little frustrating that theists insist on speaking in terms of belief.
I refuse to believe, belief denotes faith, and faith is nonsense. I think. I know. I don't believe.

35. What are your qualifications to question religion anyway? Just who are you?

Comment #185211 by Al420 on May 27, 2008 at 7:55 am

What are your qualifications to question the existance of fairies? Or flying spaghetti monsters?

36. Pelosi, Reid shunning Ten Commandments?

Comment #185203 by Al420 on May 27, 2008 at 7:31 am

Why do we need this law passed? Because Christians are so under-represented in our government and legal system?!
