1. Math Skills Suffer in U.S., Study Finds

Comment #263266 by cerad on October 10, 2008 at 1:01 pm

So what exactly do all those female Bulgarian mathematicians do anyways?

2. 'Glowing' jellyfish grabs Nobel

Comment #263067 by cerad on October 10, 2008 at 7:36 am

I wonder if any of the winners ever tried tossing a jellyfish into a jacuzzi?

3. Cross purposes

Comment #263045 by cerad on October 10, 2008 at 6:30 am

Does a jellyfish disintegrate in a jacuzzi? Thought he could stand more than that. Take the North Sea, for instance.

Sounds like a job for Myth Busters. Of course they would have to make some sort of robot jellyfish.

4. Why I left Young-earth Creationism

Comment #258823 by cerad on October 2, 2008 at 11:41 am

I also remember Glenn from christianforums.com. Glenn does not accept all mainstream science. In particular, because science cannot currently explain the origin of the universe Glenn concludes that science can never explain it. And therefore God must have done it.

Still, he is fun to read.

5. MythBuster Adam Savage: 3 Ways to Fix U.S. Science Education

Comment #239821 by cerad on August 30, 2008 at 11:34 am

The Myth Buster's website has a section for posting suggestions on things to test. I once proposed testing to see if, during crucifixion, a nail through a palm was sufficient to support the person's weight. As opposed to using nails through the wrist. Sadly, they turned my idea down.

6. After Bibles seized, U.S. group won't leave Chinese airport

Comment #232547 by cerad on August 18, 2008 at 10:47 am

I wonder if it's possible to train dogs to sniff out bibles? You know, opium of the masses and all that good stuff. Probably have to use some other animal for the Koran since dogs are impure.

7. Unintelligent Design

Comment #232544 by cerad on August 18, 2008 at 10:43 am

Have none of you folks ever heard about the Fall? Adam and Eve had perfect memories until they forgot about not eating certain fruits. Fruits are very bad for you.

8. The rebellion of the child-brides

Comment #230196 by cerad on August 14, 2008 at 12:18 pm

Would it hurt us to try and be just a little bit tolerant of other cultures? Sure, most of us think raping children is bad but remember these are God people and they have their own ideas about morality.

Edit: Darn it. Thought I had first post.

9. Poll: Should the motto 'In God We Trust' be removed from U.S. currency?

Comment #230188 by cerad on August 14, 2008 at 12:04 pm

Removing the motto would also make the coins lighter. An important consideration in these days of escalating transportation costs.

10. Al-Qa'eda in Iraq alienated by cucumber laws and brutality

Comment #230014 by cerad on August 14, 2008 at 6:46 am

I can understand restricting the sale of cucumbers. It was probably interfering with the vibrator market.

11. Charles Darwin investigated whether blondes have more fun

Comment #227978 by cerad on August 11, 2008 at 6:16 am

Question: How do blonds turn on their night lights?
Answer: By opening the car door.

Of course Darwin didn't have a car.

12. More than 100,000 rare gorillas found in Congo

Comment #224794 by cerad on August 5, 2008 at 4:26 pm

Oh this is just peachy. Why don't they publish a map for the poachers with a big red "here be gorillas" circle?

13. Do they really think the earth is flat?

Comment #224275 by cerad on August 4, 2008 at 12:09 pm

Tennessee, eh?

James McIntyre, a British-based moderator of a Flat Earth Society discussion website, has a slightly different take.

Britian, eh?

14. Why Islam Is Unfunny for a Cartoonist

Comment #223511 by cerad on August 2, 2008 at 3:16 pm

This is at least the second time this week we had an article showing Europeans acting like a bunch of idiots instead of the United States. Let's hope the trend continues.

15. 'Major discovery' from MIT primed to unleash solar revolution

Comment #223127 by cerad on August 1, 2008 at 2:18 pm

Folks, lets try to remember that atheists are expected to exhibit a certain amount of skepticism. Anybody recall cold fusion? Or nuclear power plants generating energy so cheaply that it would be free for all? A slightly more efficient method of generating oxygen and hydrogen with no track record of working outside of the lab is probably not going to change the world anytime soon.

16. Vicar supports Life of Brian ban

Comment #222471 by cerad on July 31, 2008 at 1:02 pm

Hah! Hah! It's not the United States that looks like a bunch of idiots this time.

17. Antony Flew reviews the Index of The God Delusion

Comment #215319 by cerad on July 21, 2008 at 4:11 pm

Here is the key to the article:

For if he had had any interest in the truth of the matter of which he was making so much he would surely have brought himself to write me a letter of enquiry.

Flew is pissed he didn't get a letter from Dawkins.

18. Texas State Board of Education approves Bible course for high schools

Comment #213554 by cerad on July 18, 2008 at 2:49 pm

Some folks insist that atheism is a religion. So lets see them come up with a bible study class that doesn't disparage the views of an atheist student.

19. Disproving Conventional Wisdom On Diversity Of Marine Fossils And Extinction Rates

Comment #210889 by cerad on July 15, 2008 at 7:57 am

I'll bet those Texas school children could have figured this out during a lunch break.

20. Bisexual Species: Unorthodox Sex in the Animal Kingdom

Comment #208827 by cerad on July 11, 2008 at 9:34 am

Meanwhile Roy and Silo's "daughter," Tango, carried on in the tradition of her fathers. Her chosen mate: a female named Tazuni.

Of course a kid who was raised by a couple of homosexuals would become a lesbian.

21. IT'S A GODDAMNED CRACKER!

Comment #207180 by cerad on July 9, 2008 at 9:19 am

Reading the third link in the article I came across this:

Police said, early Friday morning, John Opperman-Green robbed a 7-Eleven on Orange Blossom Trail. When he left the store, he tried to get a ride with some men he didn't know. They robbed him of the money he had stolen and that's when he called police.

While he was being questioned, Opperman-Green implicated himself in the 7-Eleven robbery and the robbery of a Mobil gas station the day before.

Must be something in the water.

22. The $10,000-a-Month Psychic

Comment #201889 by cerad on June 30, 2008 at 11:28 am

Just like to point out that the people hiring her for $10,000 per month are themselves making $10,000 per day. Perhaps more. So it's really a pittance to them.

23. Darwinmania!

Comment #195568 by cerad on June 18, 2008 at 1:35 pm

Kind of glad that Darwin won out over Wallace. Imagine trying to pronounce Wallaceism or Wallaceist.

24. We Urgently Need Your Help Now!!

For the record, Kent, Washingtion State was named after superman.

26. Storm erupts over 'virginity' divorce

Comment #186377 by cerad on May 30, 2008 at 8:22 am

I think the real issue is how much choice did the bride have.

1. Did she have a chance to say no to the marriage or was it completely arranged?

2. What would have been the consequences of her admitting to not being a virgin? Would her family have killed her?

27. Edgar Mitchell ushers in the Next Epoch in Evolution

Comment #183261 by cerad on May 21, 2008 at 4:27 pm

I had the pleasure of listening to Neil Armstrong give a presentation last summer. It was nice to see that not all of the Apollo astronauts went cuckoo. So much for NASA's vaunted physc testing.

28. The Gullible Age: Review of 'The Enemies of Reason'

Comment #61549 by cerad on August 5, 2007 at 5:38 pm

Perhaps we could avoid the negative consequences of diluting our efforts by embracing homeopathic atheism?

29. OUT Campaign Launched, 'Scarlet Letter' Shirts Now Available!

Comment #59239 by cerad on July 28, 2007 at 1:50 pm

I got order #42. So I have the answer, just need the question. Think I'll try for 666 as well.

30. Richard Dawkins on Hardtalk

Comment #58601 by cerad on July 25, 2007 at 10:42 am

"muscular atheism"?
Guess it's better than militant atheism. Did anyone else notice that Dr Dawkins was looking fairly buff? Wonder if he has been working out.

31. John Paul Sainthood Nun 'Gentle, Simple'

Comment #28664 by cerad on March 30, 2007 at 10:18 am

Wonder why the soon to be St Johnny hates the millions of people currently suffering from Parkinson's so much that he refuses to cure them? They must be really bad people. Maybe they all ate meat on Friday.

32. Germany Cites Koran in Rejecting Divorce

Comment #27130 by cerad on March 23, 2007 at 8:41 am

Seems a bit hypocritical to me that the wife is seeking the protection of German Law while at the same time remaining a Muslim. Muslims (like Christians) tend to believe that God's Laws transcend Man's Laws.

She should either take up her plight inside the Muslim community or else give up being a Muslim.

33. Sextuplet parents take B.C. to court over baby seizures

Comment #20391 by cerad on February 2, 2007 at 6:32 am

Wonder if in vitro fertilization was used here. None of the articles mentioned this. Sextuplets in nature are pretty rare.

34. CNN Sylvia Browne Fraud

Comment #19555 by cerad on January 28, 2007 at 8:56 am

A number of books have present scientific documentation that her hit rate is around 80%. It is a bit strange that Ms Brown is the author of all these books but I'm sure the books would never have been published if they were not true.

35. Unscientific American: US Almost Last in Understanding Evolution

Comment #18705 by cerad on January 22, 2007 at 2:43 pm

If the world would just stop giving the United States so many Nobel prizes every year then maybe we would start to understand just how backwards we are.
