1. Catholics To Pope: Lift Birth Control Ban

It's good to see Catholics demanding change from the Vatican--there's a much higher chance for success if the change comes from the inside. I don't expect the Church to change it policies with the current pope, but with enough pressure from the Catholic population, I do think the Vatican could take a step in the right direction.

As far as them accepting responsibility for their actions, although it would be appropriate, it's unlikely. It's far more Catholic to blame the sinners who refused to abstain than to accept responsibility for not educating them. I do agree that the church must adapt their policies and allow contraception and education. Saying it's your fault you got AIDS because you pissed off God just isn't going to work anymore. Hopefully this grows into an effective first step.

2. An Interview with Prof. Richard Dawkins

I find the idea of an afterlife to be far more terrifying than the idea of nothing. I was always afraid as a child that I would die before I made it to confession and either go to purgatory or spend all of eternity burning in hell. "Nothing" seems like a much better alternative! Also, no afterlife really makes you appreciate this life for what it is, instead of it just being a test to see where you'll get to go next.

Done. It's depressing that we need to write letters against ID to a biology major, but I guess politics override reason.
