Comment #215764 by savroD on July 22, 2008 at 10:24 am
Richard should abandon the "anti-darwinist" poppycock. He's answering a false and illogical question predicated on the notion that humans are somehow not natural. Nothing humans do is unnatural; everything, I submit, everything humans do physically or mentally is perfectly and consistently part of nature. Whether we turn the earth into a garden or a wasteland, we are here as part of nature to do just that!
Free will indeed!
6. Obama Wants to Expand Role of Religious Groups
Comment #203842 by savroD on July 3, 2008 at 8:06 pm
This is typical of American politicians. They will go out of their way to comfort the delusional, and delude the comfortable. Voting for this guy is questionable; however once in command, who knows what he'll do. My advice is to add much much more progressive taxing on wealth, not just income. And, start massive stimulus to the middle and lower classes with jobs, direct investment, and research. All decisions must be made based on the best scientific principles. Helping people through religious channels is unconstitutional. And he claims knowledge and training in constituional law. What a laugh!

I just read Hitch's response. It was good.
I just wish these religious nutcases of the world would get the Declaration of Independence right. I can't stand the illiteracy. It says, "...endowed by THEIR Creator". They keep replacing "THEIR" with "THE". The placement of this word is a millions times and ways more important than the word Creator. When will these flunkies learn to comprehend what they read. No wonder they believe the bible is literally true!

Comment #88065 by savroD on November 14, 2007 at 1:23 pm
I tried to ask the question to RD a few months back, and I'm sure I mentioned it in some other postings. Where is the Law of Evolution? Certainly, the fields of genetics and molecular biology has enabled the fashioning of some law; however, it's somewhat of a mathmatical proposition, similar to the law of gravitation. Although I lack the scientific credentials, I would really like to see this in my lifetime!

20. Real Out-of-Body Experiences
Comment #68312 by savroD on September 6, 2007 at 7:23 pm
I just have to weigh in on this one.....
I'll never forget my first out-of-body experience. It was vivid and somewhat ironic in that I was an Atheist back then.
I was sitting in my dorm room. My roommate was asleep. I was sucking the smoke out from an overturned glass I had used to stop the burning of a most exquisite piece of Hashish said to hail from Afghanistan. As my lungs expanded, I leaned back in my seat and closed my eyes. I suddenly had the distinct impression that my awareness had launched out of my body like a rocket and into the space above the earth at incredible speed. I captured only a mere glimpse of the earth and flashed back into my body.
If I learned anything, my analysis of this experience was that it wasn't in the least bit supernatural.

What a sad little man. Think about it folks. He wants to incite people to violence because of what? words? If he was right there would be bible burnings and church burnings all over. The fact of the matter is most atheists are too busy at learning than to waste their time burning their goofy bibles and places of congregation. This smug ass and his ilk are just so in love with themselves. It's actually laughable if anything! I'm waiting for the video showing my avatar. Comment #44436 by savroD on May 24, 2007 at 5:44 pm
I think everyone has done a great job ripping this thing to shreds. John Lennon wrote a song that said something to the effect that..... god is a concept by which we measure our pain! This is true for all these moderate theists.
I've watched Hedges talk about the dangerous foreign policies the American government pursues. He does have some good sense about recognizing the negative effects thereof.
Really though, this will be no better than the debate between SamH and AndrewS. We all know the resulting endpoint there.
Lastly, I would like to see Hedges debate Hitchens instead. Now that could actually be enjoyable. Hitchens will not show any mercy; whereas, Sam will probably be too nice.

A lot of great points everyone. I suspect the bottom line here is education. People have been to school, but have not been educated. They don't think critically. Wilson obviously is one of these guys who wants to think of himself as a hero for defending the indefensible. He doesn't look heroic to me. Though the word fool does comes to mind.
39. 'god is not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything' by Christopher Hitchens
Comment #36278 by savroD on April 30, 2007 at 6:52 pm
I caught the festival of books live. I did notice that Hitchens was a little shakey as they removed said audience member. The armies of the religious are going to be gunning for him and his family for sure now. This just goes to show how disgusting these religious people are. If anything should happen it would only show how horribly bankrupt and poisonous religion is. Yet, you can be sure the moderates will be there to blame Hitch for blasphemy, as the utterly sick and detestable kind of intellectual cowards they are!
40. Pundit Christopher Hitchens picks a fight in book, 'God is Not Great'
Comment #36151 by savroD on April 30, 2007 at 10:16 am
Wow...so many good and bad points I don't know where to begin, much less contribute. I would like to throw out some things here as follows:
1. Whether you were for or against the war no longer matters. It happened.
2. I think the main thing most people who believe in peace miss is not whether or not Iraq had WMD, (remember America gave it to him), it was that all that needs to happen is for some terrible weapons technology to be given to terrorists by someone such as Iraq, N.Korea, or Iran; or quite frankly, anyone pissed at America.
3. This is no longer a war, but an occupation; and as such, leaves only two possibilities. The first is the complete and total destruction of the country in the form of a scorched earth policy. The second is to leave. While the first will be a genocidal militarist's wet dream; the second will also be quite genocidal. Either way America is blamed. While the first involves creating more terrorism, polluting the earth, and generally embarassing America; the second leaves America able to go back to the world community and say that we need to sit down and agree what we all can do. this will most likely not happen till the 2009 election.
Overall, It is my belief America should end the occupation of Iraq. If a fraction of the dollars spent there was spent on alternaticve energy, America might have looked respectable again.
Lastly and with respect to religion, Hitchens book should be commended. The title is accurate. God is NOT great and religion DOES poison everything. I'm afraid this will be the case for a long time to come. And once again I lay this at the feet of the moderates. They make the world safe for this non-sense. I know many of them are basically good people; however, well-intentioned they are not. They will never be well-intentioned till religion is taught and accepted as mythological. Also, religion can NEVER be used as political justification for ANYTHING. If someone wants to be religious, it should be personal and no different from reading your horoscope!
Comment #35694 by savroD on April 28, 2007 at 10:50 am
Hopefully... ABC is putting these losers up there to let them hang themselves. Unfortuately, a lot of Americans will buy into any of this crap as long as it's portrayed as faith based. I admit Johnny Carson was in a class of his own; however, you certainly have paid little attention to the comedians and late night hosts of today. There is a little of Carson in all of them, some more than others. To deny this does injustice to JC's memory. And to deny my comparison to Bill Maher is self-centered and indulgent. Your opinion of BM is indeed...your opinion!

To say there is a little good in any religion is like saying there is a clean spot in the toilet I just crapped in.
Also, to characterize Hitchens as, "a talented piece of shit" alongside of respect for RD and SH misses the point. Hitchens expertise is literature, not science; moreover, his method and madness is wonderfully contrarian.
Comment #35282 by savroD on April 26, 2007 at 7:08 pm
You guys clearly don't appreciate BM or his style. His monologue and style are almost classic Johnny Carson. He speaks out. He's a bit of a twit; however, he's never afraid to speak truth to power.

Smith;
You want to break the universe into the known, the unknown, and the unknowable. Then you believe your fascination with the unknowable is acceptable. Asking questions without answers is tantamount to the postmodernist rubbish that pretends to talk scientifically and yet be totally meaningless!
