After all the comments I read, I feel somehow pessimistic about the necessary Islamic reformation.
To counterpart these feelings I recommend to watch the clip about the famous ventriloquist Jeff Durham who presents Achmed the dead terrorist:

Take a good laugh and you feel better too.

Anyone interested in outspoken opinions of a Koran expert from GB should surely watch his Idiots Guide to Islam series he made for YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/user/muhammadsquran.
As an introduction to this guide I recommend to visit his website first: http://www.inthenameofallah.org/
This Arab guy explains in detail that Allah is not God but merely one name of many pagan gods, the life of Muhammad, the history of his Koran and how it got corrupted. It's pretty explosive material and I'm sure you all like it.

Dear Mr Scales,
How surprising to hear about your financial endeavour. Wish you would really come out of your closet and let everybody know why you did this generous offer. Our world really needs more men like you. Hopefully you regain your eye sight and walking abilities.
Gratitude and best wishes,

Hitchens declared yesterday evening on the Dutch news that he already found sufficient wealthy men who will pay for her protection. They all want to stay anonymous. The yearly interest over the total sum is enough to pay her private body guards.

Schubert, too, was suffering from neurosyphylis and died as a result of it. Remarkably, he wrote the best work, like Winterreise, during his final illness. So much for the `detrimental` effects of this STD.

I prefer a T-shirt with "Imagine NO Religion" printed on it, just as the homepage of this site displays it at its bottom.
Apart from conveying the message of being an atheist, you also warn other people of being a deist.

It is only in the year 325 at the Council of Nicaea under the leadership of the emperor Constantine that the 4 Gospel stories were chosen out of many more available and then constituted into the Canon of the New Testament.

For those among us who are interested in how the Bible came to us in the form we know it today, I wholeheartedly recommend the book "Lost Christianities; The battles for scripture and the faiths we never knew" by Bart D. Ehrman, Oxford University Press, 2003. He offers a fascinating look at the early forms of Christianity during the first centuries AD and shows how they came to be suppressed, reformed or forgotten.
The second book I would like to bring under attention is: "When the Gods came down; The catastrophic roots of religion revealed" by Alan F. Alford from 2000. You can order this wonderful book at his website: http://www.eridu.co.uk/
His broad view of old and new religions, their many similarities and possible common ancestor, but above all his emphasis on the esoteric meaning of all these scriptures - only accessible to the initiated - is unique among present day writers and deserves, in my opinion, much more attention.
Lastly, I recommend the recently translated "Atheist Manifesto: The Case Against Christianity, Judaism, and Islam" by Michel Onfray, a French philosopher, and available at www.amazon.com. This book discusses, among other things, the history of atheism, but mainly how these three, astonishingly similar, monotheistic religions still affect present day life and how they all are preoccupied with desire for death, numerous prohibitions and commandments and, last but not least, their intense disgust for sex, females, gays and bodily fluids.
