I'm 33 years old and I certainly didn't become an atheist overnight. I grew up in a strict but loving Baptist home. My parents still don't know about my not believing in god. It's not for thinking they would scream at me for not believing that I keep it from them, but for the fact that they would be seriously and deeply devastated. They're getting on in years, and as christians they're faith is pretty benign - as most of the christians seem to be in my neck of the woods.
Still though, I sometimes feel that it's not fair that I have to keep it from them. This seems to be a one-sided deal. I can't help it, I simply don't believe in thier god.

Funny... WFMU is where I first heard Lil' Markie. :-)
WFMU is the greatest station ever. Check out this great program: www.incorrectmusic.com/
It's inspirational.

JohnC - Oh no! You missed the best part when he stops talking and starts singing "whyyyyyy did you killlllll me mommyyyyyyyy?"
"Diary of an Unborn Child" is the song of the century. Right up there with "Are You Jimmy Ray".

Also, do a search for "Little Marcy" if you can - or Tammy Faye Baker. Lots and lots of Tammy Faye Baker.
Your musical world will never be the same. Neither will your digestive system. There are plenty of other gems to be found. Email me for details.

I couldn't view the clip because I'm at work. But if it's the one I'm thinking of, it's probably that one that was in the PBS Evolution series, right?
You know that line in it about "Adam was my ancestor and not a Chimpanzee"? Look at the sentence structure, it may be the only thing in the song that's accurate. He may well have had an ancestor named Adam, and he definitely wasn't a chimpanzee - since we are not descended from chipanzees, but rather share a common ancestor with them.
oops!

I was very surprised, delighted and perversely amused when I did my daily login to this site to find this post! I used to do a show at my campus radio station that featured odd and weird 'outsider' music, as it's called. Lil' Markie was a terrifying favourite of mine. I have found that most of the most frightening Christian music happens to be directed at children. And it took that chapter in TGD to really solidify in my mind why exactly this was the case.
If you think THAT'S disturbing, you all simply HAVE to hear "Diary of an Unborn Child." The link is here:

Of course, what's terrifying is that it was for real.
cheers,
