Hm, I think I have to join Robert Maynard on this one, apart from and despite of those weird ad hominem attacks at Richard Dawkins.
It's better than the previous articles by Klinghoff, Dionne etc.

A fascinating read. Funnily enough one of Panek's books, "Seeing and Believing", about the history of the telescope, was published in Germany as "Das Auge Gottes" (The eye of God). ;-)
"I don't think we really understand what gravity is," Vera Rubin says. "So in some sense we're doing an awful lot on something we don't know much about."

I have to agree with Zaphod's second comment. Clearly an agenda there. It is a shame for the Guardian.

Still waiting for the real George Foreman of religion to stand up. At least I learned something about soil erosion, a topic that would indeed deserve more public attention.

Mr. Dawkins doesn't appear to be in need of worshippers. If a kind of personality cult has grown out of this website I'd just think of it as a negligeable side effect. I don't consider myself a fan or even a friend of Dawkins. I just like his way of thinking (well, most of it as far as it is published). I see no reason whatsoever to get hysterical over this issue. Amen

Hello Biza, I'm afraid "Strawman" alone won't do. Better try "Dawkins' Strawman", but please let it be unbeknownst to any potential reader at which higher institution you are gaining your academic merits. ;-)

Hm, Muslims - it seems - are not considered eligible by the Gallup pollsters themselves. ;-)

Watching Fox (Faux?) News makes me reconsider the possibilty of absolute evil.
But more seriously and this goes to Jared. It is indeed a tragedy that this kind of cheap propaganda "journalism" would fuel an equally dumb antiamericanism outside the US.
Please be assured, though, that there are people out there who don't assume that Fox News represents the ne plus ultra of American reasoning. ;-)

"Moreover ye shall eat no manner of blood...(Leviticus 11:26-27)."
Whatever you might think of it, it is still Leviticus 7:26-27
I'm not even starting to try to take any person serious, who in our times adheres to iron (or even bronze) age "laws".

Wonderful interview, which to some of course might appear as almost hurtfully balanced.
I was most impressed by Dennett's "sweettooth-tactics". I hope, he'll be recovering soon.
