1. The Psychology Behind Cults/Religion

Comment #87331 by bungoton on November 11, 2007 at 9:15 pm

I have to take issue with the term brainwashing. It is more correctly called mind control in the way that cults use the techniques. Mind control can be achieved by taking control of one of several things - information, behaviour, thoughts or beliefs. Control of any one of those can lead to control of all of them.
The main difference between mind control and brainwashing is that with brainwashing you know who the enemy is. Mind control is done by your 'friends'.

I'm sure the whole lawsuit is a scam. Everybody knows there are no atheists in foxholes.

It must be a New Atheist conspiracy to force their godless beliefs on a Christian nation.

;)

3. Richard Dawkins, TV evangelist

I would find it easier to read the rantings of these fools if they bothered to use correct English. There is no such word as evangelicalism. The word is evangelism and the people who practice it are called evangelicals. This fits into the same category of errors as the word 'orientated'. The error is using a double suffix.
When god died I guess he took English with him.

serrano, you have no idea what an ethical statement is. Saying you believe in god is not a statement of ethics. You need to learn how to think clearly. Perhaps a few years away from the mind numbing effects of religion will help clear your brain.

Wendy Kaminer needs to check her knowledge of history. It was NOT religous groups who championed the abolition of slavery in the USA. In fact the churches were the last places that condoned slavery. There was a famous newspaper article by Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens) that stated that the battle to end slavery had been won everywhere except in the pulpit.
