2. Add another flea to the list...

Comment #134999 by firemancarl on February 28, 2008 at 12:34 pm

Yes, my unbelief that religious wooers should run this country are a threat. My atheism is a threat to NASA and the Space Coast as well. Uh-oh, look out for atheists in Central Florida...one of 'em might just be the nice firefighter that helps you. Hows that for altruism??

3. The OUT Campaign has its own Flea!

Comment #106792 by firemancarl on January 3, 2008 at 1:07 pm

I think he means "out like walmart" as in walmart is anti union and if you wanna join one, you will be "out" of a job!

5. The Out Campaign

Comment #59975 by firemancarl on July 31, 2007 at 9:51 am

So, lemme get this straight ( no pun intended). The religious posters come one here, construct straw man arguments then proceed to tel us that we are forming a religion. I suppose that makes it "easier" for them to attack and try to stuff the momentum and easier for them to try to understand. The religious appearantly cannot grasp that athiests dont need to huddle together in their groups to profess their beliefs. Atheism is ant religious and so equating atheism with any kind of religion is not only an oxymoron, but a misnomer as well.

Hey, I work with another athiest firefighter here in the Daytona Beach area. I canna wait for my T Shirt. I will wear it with pride, ready to dash the bible thumpers with logic and reasoning which will no doubt cause their heads to explode!

11. A Look at Regent University

Comment #46155 by firemancarl on May 30, 2007 at 11:57 am

Eeeeeegad! The woman who they interview towards the end sums up everything that is wrong with Regent. "Finding the truth"? I guess she didn't she still thinks we were founded on a xtian platfrom. And here I thought it was more along the lines of Spartan law, go figure.

To add a bit to what thebigredmachine said, when I lived in Virginia Beach VA (where Regent is located) people just rolled thier eyes everytime someone brought up that "school". The look was "pay absolutley no more attention to anything this person says".

12. The Cyclic Universe: A Talk With Neil Turok

Comment #42546 by firemancarl on May 18, 2007 at 11:23 am

Fedler,

I have that book, and lemme tell you...it's a good one, but the info can be daunting. Tyson is an excellent author. Don't worry, my wife thinks i'm nuts for reading books like that too!

13. The Cyclic Universe: A Talk With Neil Turok

Comment #42537 by firemancarl on May 18, 2007 at 10:59 am

Moreover,

Does a singularity induced Big Bang that opens a new universe happen in our membrane or does it get created in an entirely new membrane?

14. The Cyclic Universe: A Talk With Neil Turok

Comment #42533 by firemancarl on May 18, 2007 at 10:49 am

Eamonn & Fedler

What if Degrasse Tyson is right when he says that there are theories which say that sigularities of black holes lead to "big bangs" that create other unvierses?

Would that not solve the cyclical issue? ie Every black hole creates another universe.

I am just guessing and admit that my uderstanding of the whole issue is fairly nil.

16. Dobson, Armageddon, and Foreign Policy

Comment #41940 by firemancarl on May 17, 2007 at 10:46 am

Dobson: We know the Lord is in control. We know that he has never lost a battle.

Does anyone remember the Bible verse where god was defeated by wildmen. Or something like that?

Comment #40677 by firemancarl on May 14, 2007 at 4:52 pm

Yet another apologist twit who has made the bible what he wants it to be. No need to read it, just use the same tired ol arguments that have been used before.

22. Among the Disbelievers

Comment #40492 by firemancarl on May 14, 2007 at 10:59 am

"Dawkins thinks he has an answer--science--but his understanding of the term is embarrassingly crude and empirical."

WTF over? Who better to us a term like science than Dawkins?

The writter of this article is a putz!

23. Facing Off on Evolution

Comment #40487 by firemancarl on May 14, 2007 at 10:46 am

The RRS did a good job, but I agree with thier after action review. They missed some really good chances to fracking destroy Cameron and Comfort. Oh well, it was a learning experience. I like the older woman who took Comfort to task for avoiding her question about cancer.

24. Facing Off on Evolution

Comment #40485 by firemancarl on May 14, 2007 at 10:44 am

See,who says we athiests are militant? Would uptight xtians be able to take a serious subject such as boob...er...evolution and turn it into an equal opportunity boobfest?

Logicel,
I dunno how a food fight at a fish stall can be considered sexy, but if you'd like to show me (us) how..then please post grainy black and white video and fuzzy 8X10 pics. please.

Besides, if you're hearing "thumping of soft objects landing on the floor".......

26. Facing Off on Evolution

Comment #40472 by firemancarl on May 14, 2007 at 10:24 am

Logicel, I think i'll have to come over and watch some French TV if you dont mind. We're sooooo televisonally repressed here in the states.

Another thought. How long before we hear that all militant athiest women are suffering from a curse, by our lord and most bennifical benifactor,by being large breasted??

I shall start the search! ;-)

30. How dare you call me a fundamentalist

Comment #40393 by firemancarl on May 14, 2007 at 8:25 am

Prof Dawkins,

Thank you for writting such a well thought out reply to the those that would call any of us militant or fundamentalist.

I agree with Pi Guy, you never should have had to write a rebuttal to the origninal article.

31. Christians and atheists start a calmer dialogue

Comment #40387 by firemancarl on May 14, 2007 at 8:20 am

Damn,

I am really beginning to wonder why they categorize every athiest as "militant". In fact, it's starting to piss me off and make me militant. Just becuase I don't believe I am "militant"? I call bullshit or shite if youre UK. ;-)

32. Atheism in America

Comment #40283 by firemancarl on May 14, 2007 at 4:44 am

Well, that is a perfect example of what our Mid West is like. Horrible amount of fundies there.

It was nice to see the xtian kids keeping with the morals of Jesus and loving everyone and letting god/jesus judge them...oh wait.......

33. Kirk Cameron Proves That God Exists

Comment #39852 by firemancarl on May 12, 2007 at 5:21 am

Logicel

Sorry, I forgot my "sarcasm" emoticone. I no way do I think he/they one. I thought the way I ended my post you could tell I was being facetious.

35. Kirk Cameron Proves That God Exists

Comment #39842 by firemancarl on May 12, 2007 at 5:02 am

Well, you can blame him for thinking Cameron won? I mean with all of the dead air time when the RRS would provide scientific fact ( which is just another way the Lord messes with us) and the camera would cut to Cameron and Comfort looking dumbfounded, yeah, Cameron won.

37. Massachusetts Proposes Stem Cell Research Grants

Comment #38920 by firemancarl on May 9, 2007 at 1:45 pm

I am often left in bewilderment at the fundies/rightwingers/"prolifers" on this subject. Why is it that they never understand that the cells to be used are ones that were going to be destroyed? They are not "killing" life. These cells would wind up in the garbage if not used for scientific gain.

Sometimes I swear the fundies operate on a "2 + 2 = fish" principal.

38. Those fanatical atheists

Comment #38225 by firemancarl on May 7, 2007 at 9:11 am

I have to agree with all of you, this is probably one of the best articles I have ever read. Too bad it won't see the light of day in a US newspaper. We are so out of touch with reality here in the states, unless of course, you are a fan of Fox "News".

39. Convention ends with Satan and immigrants

Comment #36240 by firemancarl on April 30, 2007 at 3:36 pm

Greene said she was disappointed in BYU professors who protested Dick Cheney's visit to campus, calling them "self-appointed intellectuals."

Damn that kills me. Aren't we all self appointed intellectuals? This ought to prove how wacked out our Rep. party has become. Run and manned by the ignorant. Jesus Aged Christ on a popsicle stick!

40. Pundit Christopher Hitchens picks a fight in book, 'God is Not Great'

Comment #35869 by firemancarl on April 29, 2007 at 6:50 am

Denoir,

You don't post on the packerreport.com do you? You sound like one of the other athhiests on there who gets into it with the overbearing bible thumpers.

ANother book on why religion is bad. I hope that "everybody" reads this, and not just us athiests. Figuring that if the percentage of atheists in the US is around 7% or, I cannot believe Prof. Dawkins book or any of the others would still be selling so well. There must be more of us!

41. The Video: Bill O'Reilly Interviews Richard Dawkins

Comment #34779 by firemancarl on April 25, 2007 at 8:21 am

See, this is the kind of thing Bill does. says a few points and when someone tries to rebut him, he keep interupting. didja notice how Prof. Dawkins seemed to be just a tad agravated that Bill kept cutting him off.

O'Reillys way of thisnking, "..thats what I believe so you'll never change my mind even when you show me proof" sumerizes the Christain right in the US.

Heck, he was even arguing that Hitler wasn't a Catholic, but we know that Hitler often said that he was doing Gods work in killing the Jews.

O'Reillys a shmuck and Dawkins was unable to present his side.

42. Pope abolishes limbo

Comment #34179 by firemancarl on April 23, 2007 at 1:01 pm

As Prof Dawkins says "Hot on the heels of its magnanimous pardoning of Galileo....." thier now letting babies who die go to heaven. Man, how nice is that?

43. 'The Day They Kicked God out of the Schools' & Rebuttal

Comment #34176 by firemancarl on April 23, 2007 at 12:55 pm

Brian,

Excellent response! I love the use of the Epicurean paradox. The first video was an absolute grandstaning move made by someone who obviously hasn't read the Bible. Well, maybe he did, but decided to leave out all of the killing, especially the killing of young children by God.

44. Where Is Atheism When Bad Things Happen?

Comment #33280 by firemancarl on April 19, 2007 at 7:25 pm

Here's my reply

Uh, are you kidding me? You want to know where we athiests are? We are mourning right along side those who have lost.

I would love to know where your God or Gods are/were while this nutjob was mowing people down, some of who undoubtedly were Christians.

I am not sure what you mean by "rushing in" like an army? Like a hero to save the day? Thats just silly nonsense.

What you should be doing is asking your god why he let something like this happen again.......

45. Iran Exonerates Six Who Killed in Islam's Name

Comment #33238 by firemancarl on April 19, 2007 at 4:50 pm

Hooray! The Iranians have finally taken that proverbial first progressive step towards modernizing their culture by allowing equal rights for women and taking a stand against killings for religious reasons!

er, wait a sec.......

46. NEXT MONDAY: Bill O'Reilly interviews Richard Dawkins

Comment #33185 by firemancarl on April 19, 2007 at 2:27 pm

To say that "Pappa Bear" is an overgrown gasbag is right on the mark. There is a reason that Colberts "The Word" is such a great spoof of ol Bill.

He's the same yutz that is blaming the mayor of Virginia Beach, Va for an illegal alien killing someone with his car while he was drunk. Not sure how the mayor is to blame since she didn't buy him a drink or give him a car, but this will be the same kind of treatment that Prof Dawkins will get.

I can just see it now, every time that Dawkins has him in the crushing grip of reason, you'll hear "...but professor...."

Its a set up for O'Reilly to win.

One last thing. O'Reilly is the same guy who wrote in his syndicated column around Christmas that Thomas Jefferson would have prayed over Christmas dinner etc, all about "The war on Christmas"

47. Hey Mom, I'm an Atheist

Comment #31023 by firemancarl on April 10, 2007 at 4:48 pm

House $300,000

Video Camera $500

Having your mom bitch you out becuase you're an athiest and she has no idea about her own religion.....

PRICELESS!

48. Then Call it God

Comment #30920 by firemancarl on April 10, 2007 at 10:29 am

I have to echo the other posters, Dawkins isn't God? That was the best damn chance of God having an ability to stand up to scientific questioning. Fooey! Maybe i'll become a Moonie now!

49. Is God poison?

Comment #30919 by firemancarl on April 10, 2007 at 10:26 am

Hey Prof. Dawkins,

Eventhough I am from Florida-and didn't vote for Dubbya or his nincompoop brother "Gov. Duh", you're still my hero!

50. Prophets of the new atheism

"disproportionately college-educated and affluent."

What does that make a knuckle dragging firefighter like me? I am educated, but damn, affluent? I wish.
