1. Heath Ledger Death: Baptist Group To Protest At Memorial

No disrespect to RDF, but wouldn't the best policy be to simply ignore these narrow minded cretins, rather than give them the publicity they so obviously seek?

BicycleRepairMan: I was watching a history programme on TV earlier, discussing the history of christianity in Scotland. What annoyed me was the unarguable assumption that christianity was a GOOD thing. More of this unhealthy respect nonsense.
[BTW, love the username - brings back great memories!]

"I just don't have faith. Sorry. Can't fake it. But I'm no more angry, purposeless or immoral than the next guy. And if God invented free will then this is all His fault anyway."
Excellent.

Irrespective of the apes 'error', and the pronounciation of 'Nietzsche', it's still a great video. Perhaps we should all show it to our children.
And yes, it's "Music for a Found Harmonium" by the Penguin Cafe Orchestra, as it states in the credits.

Planeswalker: I wonder whether he chose the headline on purpose, so that faith-heads would read the article? Hopefully they will, and at least some of them will engage their brains and have the sort of reaction mentioned by ImagineAZ above.
Excellent article.

I must admit, I've seen some pretty offensive ties in my time, but this is ridiculous:

I see the BBC has now picked up on this story:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/6596933.stm
- Ordering a shopkeeper to saw off the breasts of mannequins because they are too revealing! Pathetic. All I can say is these people must be very easily aroused, and once aroused, quite unable to control themselves!
10. Memo: Stop teaching evolution
Comment #22515 by Boogie on February 19, 2007 at 12:53 pm
I know it's been said many times before, but the great tragedy is that many scientists have to waste their time arguing with such people, when they could be doing something useful. To paraphrase John Cleese, the simple fact is that these people are operating at an extremely low level of mental health. As Lewis Black said in the fossils clip linked here a few days ago: "Evolution is a major thread in the larger tapestry that I like to call... REALITY!"

Wow, McGrath certainly seems to have an obsession with Dawkins. I agree with Macho Nachos - his argument appears to be based upon the premise that life must have some predetermined meaning. Why must it? I'm with Dawkins on this - it is up to us to provide the meaning. As Sagan said: "If we crave some cosmic purpose, then let us find ourselves a worthy goal".
12. Young, British Muslims 'getting more radical'
Comment #19615 by Boogie on January 28, 2007 at 11:27 pm
"Turning to issues of faith, 36 per cent of the young people questioned said they believed that a Muslim who converts to another religion should be "punished by death."": This is a sickness of mind that really needs to be addressed, and I can't think of a better way than to teach the young that religion is a delusion. Did you ever hear an atheist say: "you should be killed if you believe what I don't believe"?

[In reply to comment #15568] I think there is a difference between giving offence and being rude. If a theist takes offence, that is their problem. I wouldn't take offence if a theist caricatured me as an ape (quite the contrary, in fact).

I agree, I've watched/listened to Professor Dawkins on many occasions and don't recall him ever being rude, quite the contrary (despite provocation). I think it's just another facet of the 'special respect' that religion demands - if you don't give it that respect, you are seen as being rude.
