1. Interview with Richard Dawkins

It's just as well that someone cut it short...I can't fathom who gave that nasal clown of a radio host a microphone and paid him to talk into it.

2. LA Church 'agrees abuse pay deal'

Comment #56454 by exegesis_saves on July 15, 2007 at 9:00 pm

Earlier this year, Cardinal Mahoney told parishioners in an open letter that the Church would sell its 12-storey administrative building and was considering the sale of about 50 other non-essential properties to raise funds.

Poor, sad, tax-exempt churches. Allow me to say:

BOO

FUCKING

HOO

(Sorry).

Sometimes I wish religion was true so the Rapture would finally come and whisk them all away so they can leave us alone.

Two points:

1) Think of how much better popular music will be..

2) Again, someone needs to get on the ball and start selling "Rapture Insurance" to believers to cover their heathen loved ones. I'd love to see the political uproar the first time someone tries to sue for "fraud."

If I were an American, living in America, I'd be much more concerned about what was in my food, than the religious opinions of my fellow Americans.

Which raises an interesting point...how are we going to get the average American to abandon faith when we can't even get him/her to avoid high fructose corn syrup?

Another issue to consider...

I am originally from the great state of North Dakota, which currently sports a population of approximately 600,000 people (yes, the city of San Jose, CA has more people than live in my entire home state).

I know for fact that one of those maroon counties in the Northeast corner contains a town called Russo.

Population: 9.

Thus, if six or seven of those nine is a god-licker, then that whole geographic tract turns maroon.

Not to say that this is not an interested graphic...but lets read it for what it actually says.

Carnivorous sponges?

CARNIVOROUS F#*%@*G SPONGES?!?!?!

Horrors like this are the perfect ammunition against the Argument from Design, I guess.

CARNIVOROUS SPONGES???????????

7. Hitchens on Falwell

Comment #41904 by exegesis_saves on May 17, 2007 at 9:33 am

Regardless of what else you may think of Christopher Hitchens...

he managed to use the phrase "Chaucerian frauds" on what would otherwise be a vapid American 24-hour news channel.

Well played, sir.

Let us not forget the gravest of the late Reverend Falwell's crimes:

The single thing I love the most about "these" kind of book reviews is that the final paragraph always makes the following point:

"Surely rationality isn't enough by itself."

Subtext:
HOW AWFUL WOULD IT BE IF THERE WERE NO GOD?!?!?!

Which, of course, is water-tight proof for his existence.

Next, please.

These guys had better not steal my idea for Rapture Insurance.

Again, even if we assume that religion does the warm and fuzzy things for people that this woman claims it does...none of that makes it true.

If that were all it took, whiskey WOULD IN FACT make me funnier and more charming than those around me.

Wait...that means it doesn't... :(

13. God Exists. A Formula Proves it.

News Media: Can you prove the existence of God?

Crackpot Hack: Sure I can! LOOK AT TEH (sic) EQUAL SIGNS!

News Media: I don't get it...IT MUST BE GOD!

Crackpot Hack: EXACTLY!

Seriously...were there really no sectarian murders in Iraq that we could be reporting instead? No grotesque abuses of the Constitution by our elected officials? When it comes to the banality of the media and the public, I'm not sure which came first.

Here's a fun fact:

This, in short, captures why I worry that my people in the USA are no longer fit for representative government. Thank you.

15. UK Christians 'suffer for faith'

Comment #26375 by exegesis_saves on March 19, 2007 at 1:24 am

Though I can only speak from an American perspective, I think the underlying problem is the same on both sides of the water.

Christians in the United States who claim to be persecuted do so based on the fact that many a vocal, civilly-minded non-theist has been behind the lawsuits to take prayer out of public schools, remove displays of the Ten Commandments from public buildings etc.

Essentially, this boils down to feeling "oppressed" because you are no longer able to use the machinery of government to forcibly expose your religious views to others. Such brazenly oxymoronic thinking would be funny if it weren't so widespread.

Where does it come from? Many Christians in the United States feel that the majority should have the right to do what it likes in matters of faith because the US is a "democracy" where the majority voice rules in matters of taxes, economic policy, etc. Thus, we in the US are faced with the unfortunate task of not only defusing the Christian persecution-complex, but also helping them realize that a "free" society must sometimes protect the individual at the expense of the majority.

Oh, by the way, this is my first post! Hello everyone.
