1. CNN Request for 'I-Reports' on religion

Comment #65059 by torgosPizza on August 22, 2007 at 7:11 pm

cassdenata - do it for the rest of us! If my job sounded as interesting as yours I would be flattered that CNN wanted to know more, as much as I am still bothered by their mishandling of the atheist debates several months back.

I too have sent in an I-Report. Hopefully we can have an impact, no matter how great or small, on their "research."

2. The Future Forum Presents: Christopher Hitchens and Marvin Olasky

Comment #49861 by torgosPizza on June 14, 2007 at 12:26 am

I just finished watching it (although I had to skip past the god-believer's comments several times as they became unbearably redundant).. Agreed that this guy was way over his head, and the senator's invocation of Pascal made my jaw drop. Maybe I'm getting too used to hearing these things debunked in quick fashion!

A fantastic video, though, thanks for the submitter for sharing. It was also a nice touch to learn the moderator was also an "unbeliever."

3. Christopher Hitchens on The Hour

Oxytocin, thanks for the clarification. It's true that much of what we get on mainstream broadcast - or even cable news, is usually fair to one side of an argument more than the other.

Morro, you're right - I had completely forgotten about the Lou Dobbs interview, and I was actually quite surprised at how warm he was to Hitch. Very pleased as well (of course). If only we had more actual journalists like him - people who knew the facts of a story, and don't just read it off a prompter.

Unfortunately it seems like the vast majority of people in the states get their "news" from hosts who like to argue for the religious right - again, most of the time. Even the local channels are usually aghast at any stories involving atheism or the atheistic movement; which is why shows like The Hour are so refreshing, and I'm jealous of people who get to see such programs regularly.

Hitchens is always a joy to listen to, whether it's in interview or debate. Can any of our Canadian friends tell us, is this show broadcast or Internet only? If only we could have that kind of freedom here in the states. I can't imagine the consequences of a talk show host being anything less than civil to Hitchens. So much for Oprah!

5. Anderson Cooper interviews Christopher Hitchens

I'm not sure about his "I would miss it" comment, but the rest of the interview was excellent. I think I'm going to go pick up his book this week.

6. World's most prominent atheist takes on the Biblical God (and other topics)

Comment #39247 by torgosPizza on May 10, 2007 at 8:13 am

My favorite parts are when he starts saying "I'm gonna tell you like it is in my heart" but then does nothing but quote scripture. And as Philip1978 said, he goes on about how the Bible says there are THREE heavens, the first of which goes up 600 miles into the atmosphere ... of course the atmosphere only goes up 62 miles, but anyway, that's not important.

What's astonishing to me is the fact that these people are supposedly taken serious in this day and age.

"And he smote me!"

Awesome stuff. I think I'll buy his albums to let him know he's doing a great thing. He deserves our support.

That was a brilliant article. I am ashamed to be a U.S. Citizen when I read something like that.

Fonex - the image of the States as an Xian nation isn't helped when everyone who gets a spot on TV, save Dawkins and American Atheist reps, spouts religious drivel about deriving their morality from a divine source. If I were an outsider, and everyone on American TV was Xian, I might think the same thing.
