2. Ricky Gervais and The Archbishop Of Canterbury

Comment #264482 by Dr Technical on October 14, 2008 at 1:47 pm

I have no respect at all for Rowan Williams, he is clearly deluded and the head of delusional society.

As for intelligence, well if my kids can understand "the who created God ?" question and he can't, well that sounds pretty thick to me.

Any one who is the head of a death cult that seeks to perpetuate its lies by indoctrinating children is a pretty odious person in my mind.

Oh, and if he was THAT worried about world debt and poverty, he could sell all the church's assets and help them that way.

I'm sorry, but the bloke is a grade A berk.

3. Prickly fish add genetic heft to Darwin's theory on its 150th anniversary

Comment #239973 by Dr Technical on August 30, 2008 at 4:45 pm

Religionists seem to be proud of the fact that it's OK to ignore evidence. What annoys me is that they don't even try to understand, and wallow in glorious smug ignorance.

It is indeed a biological enigma.

4. Plan to exhume cardinal is 'homophobic'

Comment #237347 by Dr Technical on August 26, 2008 at 11:14 am

a) Comment #237224 was an excuse to be homophobic. Not clever or even remotely funny.

b) He's dead, he cares not

c) As God does not exist, is religious desecration possible ?

d) I wonder if the South African's prayed before today's cricket match against England ;-) (irrelevant to the thread, but hey, what a thrashing !)

5. Council ban on atheist websites

Comment #221316 by Dr Technical on July 29, 2008 at 1:56 pm

Re comments 47,49, come on guys, give me some credit, I do understand the point of the original article. Note the ";-)"

We all know that banning atheist sites and not religious sites is plain bonkers.

People always moan about the criteria used when blocking web sites; my point is you are on slightly shaky ground saying you should be allowed to see atheist web sites at work.

Yes the council's policy is discriminatory, but the council workers shouldn't be looking at any non-work related sites, so we shouldn't argue that they should be allowed to look at atheist web sites, we should argue that they should block religious ones too.

Get on with some work, you lazy loafers, especially the retard who spends his life maintaining the block list rather than doing something useful ;-) <-----

6. Council ban on atheist websites

Comment #221209 by Dr Technical on July 29, 2008 at 12:36 pm

What are council workers doing looking at atheist, witchcraft, or religious web sites ?

I thought they were supposed to do something called "work" ;-)

Although it is annoying from a personal point of view, I can't see any reason why non-work related sites shouldn't be banned full stop.

Mind you our work is so retarded it bans work related sites as well !

PS if anyone thinks they have a right to look at non-work related sites at work, don't forget to invite the plumber around on £60 an hour to surf the net at your expense after he's fixed your leaky tap :-)

7. PLEASE WRITE IN SUPPORT OF PZ MYERS

Comment #208178 by Dr Technical on July 10, 2008 at 5:06 pm

Thanks for alerting me to this Richard. Email sent (with full name) as follows:

Dear Robert

Bill Donohue is orchestrating an ridiculous and puerile witch hunt against your most learned colleague, PZ Myers.

In a world of hysteria PZ is an intelligent, humorous voice of reason, and a hugely respected member of the secular scientific community. That anyone should be offended by a satirical article about a small portion of carbohydrate says a lot about that person and nothing at all about PZ. Please make a stand against this madness and ignore the calls for PZ to be sacked.

Yours,

PS Richard - could you ask Davros for a hand ?

8. Machines 'to match man by 2029'

Comment #128628 by Dr Technical on February 17, 2008 at 1:24 pm

Ray Kurzweil may be a bit odd but I will be eternally grateful to him for his contributions to the blind. His pioneering work helped invent flatbed scanners, OCR, and speech synthesis.

Why is this so important to me ? Because for the last ten years of his life, it allowed my blind dad to read books, and he read probably more books in those ten years than I have read in my life.

However mad and barmy his predictions, to me Ray is an absolute superstar.

9. Hitchens and Boteach Debate on God

Comment #127728 by Dr Technical on February 15, 2008 at 2:40 pm

Rabbi, do some basic maths.

If the Earth is billions of years old, you do not look for trillions of transitional species.

As for the "most mutations are not beneficial" argument being an argument against evolution, I was speechless with the idiocy of his arguments. What a moron.

10. Sharia law in UK is 'unavoidable'

Comment #124167 by Dr Technical on February 8, 2008 at 2:59 pm

I seem to remember Richard Dawkins' view on academic qualifications in divinity was that they were essentially worthless, about the same value as a degree in fairies, as for honorary doctorates, well, even Bono has one....

11. Sharia law in UK is 'unavoidable'

Comment #124095 by Dr Technical on February 8, 2008 at 11:03 am

Wow, I got my email to the BBC read out on this evening's edition of the Radio 4 PM programme !

Here's what they read out:

"I think I'll invent my own religion, maybe the Flying Spaghetti Monster reformist church, and the next time I rob a bank or oppress someone, I'll defer to my made up rules from a made up god, and ignore the democratic laws that have evolved in my homeland."

12. Happy Birthday Josh Timonen!

Comment #119339 by Dr Technical on January 31, 2008 at 2:03 pm

Your efforts are hugely appreciated ! There are not many web sites I look at daily, but this is one of them.

I wish I got a birthday card from Richard - perhaps if I could arrange the shutting down of Noah's Ark Zoo farm I might get on the list ;-)

14. Darwin Day (Feb 12th) E-Cards

Comment #114259 by Dr Technical on January 21, 2008 at 4:34 pm

Here's another one

Four of the most brightly coloured, oddly shaped, intriguing beetles, with the caption, "John, Paul, George,Ringo and one million other species of beetle wish Charles Darwin a happy birthday!"

I guess I should crank out a photo package and knock some of these up.

15. Darwin Day (Feb 12th) E-Cards

Comment #114203 by Dr Technical on January 21, 2008 at 2:26 pm

I think one of the stupid Christian fish symbols that you find on the back of cars would be a much better candidate for a bull dog mouthful.

Alternatively:

Three monkeys sitting next to a priest, with the caption, "Evolve - we did".

A picture of Mike Huckabee standing next to Anne Robinson, with the caption, "You are the missing link, good bye".

A baby child, with Bin Laden and Darwin looking down on them, with the caption, "Who would you rather have teaching YOUR children ?"

16. George Scales, War Hero and Generous Friend of RDFRS

Comment #111371 by Dr Technical on January 14, 2008 at 12:50 pm

George, you have reminded me of the meaning of the word "awe".

All the very best in your recovery and thank you for your great contributions to the well being of humanity.

17. Another critic who hasn't read the book

Comment #109237 by Dr Technical on January 8, 2008 at 4:05 pm

I love this sentence "Far from the vitriolic diatribe of a God-hating misanthrope like Richard Dawkins", Hitchens's work is both appropriately respectful and right."

Just exactly how can Richard hate something that does not exist ?

And a misanthrope to boot ? The writer must have had Mrs Malaprop on the mind methinks, Richard is hardly a misanthrope - he wrote Unweaving the Rainbow for Newton's sake !

18. Another critic who hasn't read the book

Comment #109230 by Dr Technical on January 8, 2008 at 3:50 pm

Well I'm not sure how a book with a sub-title of God "How Religion Poisons Everything" quite fits into the respectful category.

Does anyone know why it was renamed "God is Not Great: The Case Against Religion" in the UK ? That seems somewhat toned down, I would have thought he would have been pressured to toning down the title in the US, not the UK.

19. Sam Harris debate with Rabbi David Wolpe

Comment #108382 by Dr Technical on January 6, 2008 at 4:23 pm

For those Linux users who have used wget to the flv, you can use this command to convert it into an xvid:

mencoder sam.flv -ovc xvid -xvidencopts bitrate=1000:autoaspect -vf pp=lb -oac mp3lame -lameopts fast:preset=standard -o sam.avi

you might need to get mencoder...
