Dear Wooter,

The designer seems to have planned everything.

Does the designer have a plan for me?

God is a time-traveling alien that talks to me. Jesus was his emissary.
I think that just about covers it.

8. The real danger in Darwin is not evolution, but racism

Comment #115285 by BMMcArdle on January 23, 2008 at 11:35 pm

I agree with Glen Davidson. The controversy over what should be taught in schools is NOT about worshipping Darwin, it is about the magic of creationism versus the reality of evolution-based science.
Willful mendacity?

9. Ethical storm as scientist becomes first man to clone HIMSELF

Comment #113600 by BMMcArdle on January 20, 2008 at 6:45 am

The guy's clone could do nothing but utter profanities, so he pushed him off a cliff, and was arrested for making an obscene clone fall.

At present, abiogenisis can neither be proved or disproved, but scientists are continuing to make progress towards resolving that issue.

To say that there had to be a "designer" is a leap of faith.

Each Christmas, Rationality is strengthened by telling children to believe in Santa Claus.
When they mature and find out that it is just a story to make them behave a little each year, they can hopefully see the parallels with religion.

Comment #102960 by BMMcArdle on December 24, 2007 at 3:44 am

Instead of accepting that there are things which are not fully understood at present, you make the leap that there was an "intelligent/sapient" designer.

You can call it whatever you like, you're still advocating creationism.

21. Synthetic DNA on the Brink of Yielding New Life Forms

Comment #102938 by BMMcArdle on December 24, 2007 at 2:30 am

The definition of sapient is "having or showing great wisdom or sound judgment".

One of the synonyms for "sapient" is "intelligent".

How does "Sapient Design" differ from Intelligent Design? Don't they mean the same thing?

Stating that you are disgusted by something is not an argument, it's an opinion.

Keep your ignorant opinions to yourself.

He said the nativity story in St Luke's Gospel, in contrast, had a "message of joy and good news for everyone".

"Good news, everyone! I offer you everlasting life!"
The only stipulation being that if you reject this offer you will burn in Hell for all of eternity.

You're welcome.

Unfortunately, there are adults who think know that Jesus is a real person, a sky-zombie who might answer your prayers, or damn you for all of eternity.

Intelligent design is the assertion that "certain features of the universe and of living things are best explained by an intelligent cause, not an undirected process such as natural selection." It is a modern form of the traditional teleological argument for the existence of God, modified to avoid specifying the nature or identity of the designer. Its primary proponents, all of whom are associated with the Discovery Institute, believe the designer to be God. Advocates of intelligent design claim it is a scientific theory, and seek to fundamentally redefine science to accept supernatural explanations.

Anyway, in the interview RD said he hadn't been in a church for years, and then only for a wedding or funeral.

"Faith" has many definitions.

My personal favorites being 1, 2, 4, 6, 7, and 9.

"Faithless" is mostly derogatory.

Does it really help to label them as the personification of characters in one of the books whose influence they are trying to weaken?

41. Where Is Atheism When Bad Things Happen?

Comment #99220 by BMMcArdle on December 16, 2007 at 1:15 am

There is plenty of evidence that life exists.

There is NO evidence that it is a force that flows in and out of another dimension.

Your observations are not evidence.
