Muslims are at it again!
This reminds me of a case here in Canada where a Muslim taxi driver refused service to a blind man with a guide dog - because Muslims hate guide dogs.
In the end, the compromise made was that Muslim drivers would be allowed to call for a new driver if they find our their passenger is handicapped and has a guide dog.
How long will we accommodate these hypocritical psychopaths?

"Humans evolved over millions of years from hominids in Africa and share a common ancestor with the chimpanzee. That's a fact. Whales evolved from land-dwelling carnivores, another fact. The facts tell us "what" happened, whereas the theory of evolution interprets the "how" -- the mechanisms by which evolution works."

"Of the most awesome creations made my man, most were inspired by God – the pyramids, the Blue Mosque in Istanbul, the temples of India, St Paul's Cathedral and the works of Michelangelo."
The Pyramids were inspired by God (The god of Abraham)? I don't think so.
Why does the author choose mostly religious buildings as the greatest creations of man? How about Literature, Music, Poetry, Film, Science, Art, the internet, space travel, etc etc?
What proof is there that Michelangelo's work was inspired by god? Just because he was hired by relgionists doesn't mean he was inspired by their beliefs. In his time it was probably impossible for an artist to make a living without religious content.

kaiserkriss, you make many good points. I am Vancouver-centric and often forget that parts of BC exist. Areas like the north, Okanagan, and Island are as religious as the prairies. Overall, however, BC is the least religious province, and I pray to the FSM that it stays that way.
I've never really thought about the impact of immigrants on religion in BC. But we do have a large population of Sikhs, a relatively small religion but very radical. Additionally, we have more and more Muslims moving here every year and we all know how they feel about civil liberties, especially towards women and homosexuals. Since the vast majority of China is Buddhist, I usually assume that Chinese immigrants here are Buddhist as well. But I often meet Chinese Christians and always wonder how Christ's imperialists got to them too. And I've never met a Filipino who wasn't Catholic. So while there is a large number of Atheists and Agnostics in BC, it seems our numbers might soon fade.

What? Is our country really that fucking stupid? They ought to do a province by province poll on the same topic. I'd like to think that Ontario, BC, and Quebec would have more rational results.
With 42%, Harper has a serious chance of getting a majority. And a Harper majority is to Canada what George W. Bush is to the U.S.

"How odd that anyone over 17 admires these angry ageing men, scowling at us indignantly, and competing with each other in tough-talking God knocking."
Does he have something against old (wise) men? What does age have to do with this? In the same paragraph this ugly, petty man insults the aesthetic appeal of Hitchens and also implies that female interviewers are not fit to do their jobs.
He repeatedly gets the definition of "atheism" wrong. Atheism is simply the lack of belief in a god or gods. How can our lack of belief be pretentious? The only time a lack of belief can be pretentious is when all the scientific evidence points in the other direction and you choose to (arrogantly) believe and disseminate fictional works of the bronze age.
He calls atheism cowardly? I don't see any religionists responding to Dawkins, Hitchens, et al., with scientific facts to show that any of their claims are even remotely true. Science will beat religion every time, and no, that's not pretentious, it's simply just the truth.

"The preamble has been politically controversial. In 1999 New Democratic Party MP Svend Robinson proposed before the Canadian House of Commons that the mention of God be struck from the preamble, citing concerns about Canada's diversity and those Canadians who would not share that principle. He was supported by a thousand constituents who had signed a petition, but the proposal was controversial and the party responded by undermining Robinson's responsibilities and position in the caucus. Indeed, the NDP itself had its origins in social gospel."

"I'm embarrased to admit that I voted for the Conservatives last election. The reasons were mainly the corruption of the Liberals, who had been in power too long, and the poor understanding of the west in the Liberal party."
A common misconception among those in the western provinces is that the Conservative party is the party of the west. This is simply not the case. After the recent federal budget, the premiers of British Columbia and Saskatchewan publicly denounced the budget. Harper is clearly concerned only with Calgary's interests and more recently Quebec's. This budget was the least "fiscally conservative" we have ever seen.
Now that the Liberals are healing from the aftermath of the sponsorship scandal, Harper will have to find new ways of tricking Canadians into extending the reign of "Canada's New Government."

The provincial government of New Brunswick provides such little funding to abortion that it is virtually non-existent. Abortion is supposed to be on demand across the country, but is a right that Harper and his disciples would love to take away from Canada's female population.
What scares me is that so many Canadians cannot see the potential damage that Harper can do because of his extreme faith. Right now he cannot take away rights like abortion and same-sex marriage because he is in a minority situation. Thankfully the majority of Canadian voters were intelligent enough to not vote for the new Reform party. However, if he achieves a majority government, Harper would be free to turn Canada into a theocracy. He is a man incapable of running a nation because he is incapable of running his own life (god is in control).
Minister Stockwell Day, for example, is a young earth creationist and doesn't believe dinosaurs existed. Yet he is the man responsible the RCMP and the nation's Public Safety. It looks like all you need to become a minister in Harper's cabinet is willingness to submit to two higher beings: Harper and god.

It's hard to believe McKenna when he says Canada is a truly secular country. Our Charter of Rights and Freedoms begins with: "Whereas Canada is founded upon principles that recognize the supremacy of God and the rule of law."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Preamble_to_the_Canadian_Charter_of_Rights_and_Freedoms
Additionally, we have a crazy Evangelical Prime Minister who says "god bless Canada" every chance he gets, and recently told our military that god blesses their mission in Afghanistan. I guess it's officially a holy war now.
It seems that most of McKenna's speech was him encouraging Canadians to appreciate our country and not expect it to become USA version 2. It's good to finally hear some Canadian patriotism that doesn't involve hockey.
One thing he forget to mention, however, is that our dollar is now worth 94.3 cents and expected to be on par by the end of the year :D

Science will win the fight against religion eventually; right now all religion can do is keep fighting dirty.
