His association with the Cato institute, and the various talking points he's parroted over the years, though, have almost completely destroyed my respect for him.

This article shows two things:
1) that politicials "believe in" whatever it is beneficial for them to believe, and
2) for some reason, the public still confuses accepting Darwinian theory as somehow endorsing a dog-eat-dog society. "You could find justification in Darwin for both maternal instinct and for infanticide" should read "You could find EXPLANATION in Darwin for both maternal instinct and for infanticide."
