1. NEXT MONDAY: Bill O'Reilly interviews Richard Dawkins

Comment #34277 by satanhimself on April 23, 2007 at 5:41 pm

I think Richard did fine, except he needs to smile a bit more. O'Reilly's questions were predictable, as were Richard's answers. O'Reilly did show a modicum of respect for Richard, even plugging his book. So, I think it was a win for all concerned. [...but if I have to hear the Zeus thing one more time....arrggh!]

2. Executing Saddam Hussein was an Act of Vandalism

Comment #15804 by satanhimself on January 3, 2007 at 5:17 am

Richard is absolutely right, of course, and typically courageous in saying so.

In addition to the loss of scientific and sociological evidence, the mere act of snuffing out a life (innocent or guilty) is, according to my evolved conscience, wrong, except in the case of immediate self-defense. Then again, I'm not related to any of Saddam's victims.

Saddam got off easy. Unless one believes in silly "hell", his punishment was quick and relatively painless, although barbaric. Keeping him alive, in prison, would have been much more of a "punishment" and useful to science, too.

3. America's Holy Warriors

The Christians don't realize it, but they are suckers in a war that benefits Israel as much as anyone else.

The following is an excerpt from a letter to the editor I submitted to my local paper in November 2004. The letter was in response to a piece of graphic artwork that appeared in the Veterans Day edition of the newspaper. The paper usually prints my letters, but refused to print this one. Wonder why?

"In the Veterans Day artwork of the Stars and Stripes, the artist replaced the 50 stars with 100 Christian crosses and 11 Stars of David, implying, probably unintentionally, that Jews comprise about 10% of the U.S. military.

In reality, only about 2% of Americans are Jewish. And of the 250,000 graves at Arlington National Cemetery, only about 2500, or 1%, are marked with a Star of David. Of the 230,000 U.S. troops deployed in the Middle East currently, only about 600 are Jews, according to the Jewish Community Center Association. If true, that's less than 0.27%.

The level of Jewish participation in the U.S. military is truly shameful, especially considering America's so-called 'special relationship' with Israel. The Jewish community, by and large, sends its kids off to college, preparing them for lucrative professional careers, while poor and middle-class Christian kids are primarily the ones fighting and dying in the Middle East, doing the dirty work for Israel."

Wouldn't you think that, if the American Jewish community really cared so much about Israel, young Jewish boys and girls would be enlisting in *droves* into the US armed forces? I guess Israel is only important as long as you can get all Americans to pay for its defense and get *the goyim* to die for it.

I wonder: Of the 3000 US dead in Iraq, how many were Jewish? Anyone know?

4. Richard Dawkins on the Mike Dickin Show

This was my first, and sadly last, time listening to Mike Dickin. (I'm in the USA)

Is there anyone posting from the Cornwall area who can give us further details of the fatal accident? Have any of the survivors described the accident and who might have caused it?

An atheist pride parade?

Been there, done that:

http://www.atheists.org/gamow/themarch/

It was an amazing experience.
Can't "believe" it's been 4 years already.
We need to do it again---this time with the Four Musketeers (D, D, H, and Julia) as Grand Marshalls.

Yes, I think it's time that we atheists/humanists find our own symbol to get our point across. How about a brain? Something like this:

Here's the link to the video, available free for a limited time, but you must register. The best part is when Richard loosens up and there's a lot of back and forth between him and the RRS.

8. Christian Author Warns Of Growing Atheist Backlash

Believe it or not, Jared, none other than Shrub has said the following:

"Yes, my answer to people is, I will be your President regardless of your faith, and I don't expect you to agree with me necessarily on religion. As a matter of fact, no President should ever try to impose religion on our society. A great -- the great tradition of America is one where people can worship the way they want to worship. And if they choose not to worship, they're just as patriotic as your neighbor. That is an essential part of why we are a great nation. And I am glad people of faith voted in this election. I'm glad -- I appreciate all people who voted. I don't think you ought to read anything into the politics, the moment, about whether or not this nation will become a divided nation over religion. I think the great thing that unites is the fact you can worship freely if you choose, and if you -- you don't have to worship. And if you're a Jew or a Christian or a Muslim, you're equally American. That is -- that is such a wonderful aspect of our society; and it is strong today and it will be strong tomorrow. "

"My job is to make sure that, as President, people understand that in this country you can worship any way you choose. And I'll take that a step further. You can be a patriot if you don't believe in the Almighty. You can honor your country and be as patriotic as your neighbor."

"There's nothing more powerful than this country saying you can worship any way you want, or not worship at all."

Okay, so he didn't use the A-word, but it's a vast improvement over his Poppy.
