"In the 2001 census, barely one Australian in 2000 identified as atheist, though nearly 15 per cent claimed to have "no religion".
Some people with no time for God seem to prefer more mischievous alternatives than plain old atheism can offer. In the last census, the number of professed atheists was dwarfed by the more than 70,000 Australians who described their religion as "Jedi", a la Star Wars"
hahahaha
This tells you a lot about us Australians. It wasn't like Jedi was a choice on the form. All these people wrote it in themselves just to take the piss.
Unfortunately though there has been a rise in evangelicals lately and some idiot politicians now bringing there beliefs to bear on policy.

it's more likely to show that our interest in sex is ongoing and always has been and it can't be used as an argument in the now as an example of "the decline of modern morality/ society" etc
4. Gimme That Old Time Religion (Bashing)

this article is a load of crap... but
As someone who is increasingly finding it hard to be tolerant of religion, would me being "militant" in my atheism actually hurt the "movement"? That is the only idea in the article that got my interest
5. Atheist banned from committee on religious education

"He said recent polls had shown 62 per cent of people preferred humanist explanations to religious ones and 65 per cent of young people, aged between 12 and 19, were atheist or agnostic."
Even though the decision is disappointing if not surprising, if the above figure are correct then that is heartening as I am thrilled that these numbers are that high. The majority in fact.
