Mango.
Homo erectus being in Asia up to 40 to 50 thousands of years ago and Neanderthal in Europe at the same time has always made me wonder at the facial differences between east and west. Kinda makes me wonder if humans were interbreeding. Has any scientist thought of this?

16. Virus immunity 'created in lab'

Comment #130033 by Goodwithwood on February 20, 2008 at 12:16 am

10 or more years ago I had a friend who contracted Hepatitis C. In my concern for her I researched this disease enough that I was telling the doctors about it. Hep-c was like a new Aids with out a cure. To make along story short my friend became one of the first people in the world to be cured with interferon. She's alive and healthy today, but I'm not sure weather the virus is gone from her or just dormant.

19. US military accused of harboring fundamentalism

Comment #128083 by Goodwithwood on February 16, 2008 at 4:19 am

Pat Tillman
Gave up a lucrative NFL contract to fight in Afghanistan. Military PR had one hell of a hero to follow here. BUT wait, they found out that he was an atheist who was pissed about being sent to an illegal war in Iraq and planed on speaking out against this when he was back home.
Imagine that, the military’s poster boy comes home and speaks out against the Iraq invasion and turns out to be a fucking ATHEIST too.
Well his Christian commanders took care of that threat.

Comment #120637 by Goodwithwood on February 2, 2008 at 7:17 am

Andrea Quetzalcoatl

Down syndrome has distinctive facial features. Suicide bombers, while the body is disintegrated, the head pops off. So the lone head with out a body is likely the bomber.
But the quick forensic work that concluded it was remotely done seemed like CSI Miami-ish.

But it don’t really matter cause ether way this is a hideous crime that doesn’t really surprise me considering that it happened in a culture that thinks a rape victim is tainted and disposable.

Comment #107717 by Goodwithwood on January 5, 2008 at 3:59 am

That was good. Best debate of all the four I've seen yet. Funny and profound.

The problem is, is that this Rabi is like .02% of theists. 99.98% of them don't think like or have the intellectual capacity to think like that.

And yes, Sam is getting better at debating what he was already a master at. I think all the same things he says, but I lack the skills to express what I think.

31. 'Gospel of wealth' facing scrutiny

Comment #104568 by Goodwithwood on December 28, 2007 at 7:44 pm

These people are indoctrinated from birth by their family and their society. The programing these children receive is near impossible to re-wright as an adult. Look at the way their parents shield them from the real world.

Home schooling is the most effective way. Yet simple things like censorship of media contribute. Things and ideas that are considered "Taboo". The ratings system of movies and TV censorship.

This is reflected in the religion in schools debate. I and many rationalists would like to see religion taught in school. I mean all of it. Religious history, variety, and all their beliefs and dogmas. But US christians want only there version taught and are waging an all out campaign to do it. Hence intelligent design and school vouchers that use public taxes to fund religious schools.
You see if you teach children all religions then they start to question and think.
In order for the religious Meme to survive it must be protected from science, critical thought and reality.
That is what this is. A virulic meme that can only be cured by slow systemic injection of knowledge and ideas. Not by protecting children from ideas and doubts.
I'm sure the meme can be brought under control through education and that hostility will only make it stronger.

Bla bla bla

Sorry. Just spewing out random thoughts.

39. Three wise men just legend: archbishop

Comment #101689 by Goodwithwood on December 20, 2007 at 6:46 pm

I listened to an interview with the Biblical scholar John Dominic Crossan on my local NPR radio. He had much more to say about the bible being a parable than this dude.
It was very interesting. To him the wise men were likely Magi from Persia (Iran). Magi wise men studied the stars and used what they saw just like an astrologer would. He then traced guiding star myths and customs all the way back to Greece and forward through the choosing of Roman emperors. The wise men were an opposite to the Roman Empire. Bla bla.
It was interesting to listen to him make a case that the bible is made of parables. A refreshing break from the literalists. Not that I believe him or anything.

Richard the rad biologist
Wrote a very cool book
And if you ever read it
You might lose your faith and run.

All of the priests and churches
Used to laugh and call him names
They never gave poor Richard
Any real respect at all

Then one foggy and drizzly day
His publisher came to say
Richard I think the time is right
Won't you write that book tonight.

Then all the priests felt threatened
They even screamed out in fear

Richard the way rad biologist
You'll go down in history.

I'll try to clear up some misconception about Mormons here. I was raised in the religion.
Response to comment #11. The LDS believe in a multiple levels of heaven, kinda like Olympic medals, gold, silver, bronze. The gold winners can eventually get their own planet to rule over.
But, like the Old Testament, it is one of many things that are disregarded in the "cherry picking process." It would be like asking a catholic if he really believes that one should be stoned to death over not believing in their god or for having a sexual thought about their neighbors wife. Most don't really believe the more crazy shit in their Holy books.

48. Judgement Day: Intelligent Design on Trial

Comment #88464 by Goodwithwood on November 16, 2007 at 8:21 pm

" Indeed, we should not allow the faith-heads to force us to withdraw sheepishly from a word whose negative connotations such as they exist are entirely their own attempt, yet again, at deceitful fabrication"
Here Here.

This is not the end of it. These people will be back with a vengeance. This judge was obviously rational but one of the strategies of the Christian Supremacists is to slowly replace these judges. Liberty University(not) trains there lawyers in an exact replica of the Supreme Court. They have a plan. The supreme court is being stocked with religious reich judges. And the teaching of creationism is being realized through the school vouchers campaign which is a back door way of getting the government to pay for religious schools.
They are also infiltrating the military command structure, they have the air force and are working on the other 3. Taking out Pat Tilman was part of it.
Do not under estimate the power of the dark side.

I grew up in the LDS church. The HBO show Big love is not an accurate depiction of the mormons. It is about one of the many small cults spawned by the church.
Most people criticize mormons with out know anything about them. ( Who really wants to study them?) But actually one of the most accurate accounts of their history I've seen is that South Park episode. Really. So for anyone interested in their real history give it a watch.

Why aren't the media all over this. I say,, 60 minutes were to do a peace on this it would start a frenzy that might solve the problem. These nut bars are infiltrating all areas of government, military, media and judicial courts and close to all citizens are oblivious to it. This is no conspiracy theory, it's real and organized. They have a plan.

I liked they way this author used "Christian supremacist" instead of religious right or neo-con. I'm going to start using it exclusively from now on.
