So, what have you guys come up with by banging your heads together while I was asleep?

Are we all just gonna die?

And what should I do up until then?

Shit blood, piss blood, cry blood, and cum blood, and thrash around on the floor?

Please allow for the fact that Quantum_flux is mentally retarded

Now, now, let's not insult the retarded.

A great many of them are capable of following long lists of instructions, and memorizing complex manual tasks, and have often in my personal experience displayed themselves to be superior employees in the service industry than your typical moron asshole American teenager.

They are also often prone to bouts of astonishing insight, coupled with unfiltered honesty.

For example, I had a retarded aunt who died before I was born who had my grandmother pegged as a "hateful bitch", long before the so-called able-brained members of the family dared to say so.

So, I'll thank you not to compare Quantum_Flux to the retarded.

The retarded are hindered, but not stupid.

QF is stupid, and chose his stupidity.
His adult choices need no labels other than what they truly are.

I laughed more at your little ditty about my name than this Stephen Colbert thingy.

Well, thanks. :)

I am wondering, what is the best way to react when you truly do not find something funny in a social setting?

Well, I remember being 12 going on 13 in the Boyscouts, and my troup being at my scoutmaster's house, and the scoutmaster's son making us watch Top Gun.
Everyone was laughing at the unfunny funny parts, and wooing at the unsexy sexy parts, it's a travesty of a fucking film.
I despised it, and I despised the situation.
What I did, was makes jokes at the screen (almost 10 years before they invented Mystery Science Theater 3000).
I had a blast, but everyone else wanted me dead.
I didn't care, I hated those assholes.

Now, as ugly as that got, and as unpopular as it made me, I consider the alternative, of playing along like a good little zombie, and even persuading myself that that shitty movie was good.
To this day, I would've had shitty taste on movies, I would've fit in with Boyscouts, and I might've joined the army at 18 or something.
Whatever the matter of degree, a conformity mass would have devoured me.
Mentally and physically.

Oh yeah, you bet I'd do it all over again.
(Mocking the movie that is).

Fuck that shit.

Top Gun sucks.
Top Gun sucks.
Top Gun fucking sucks.

Yeah, I guess so.

I hate most scripted television, and all reality TV.
And I've been naturally alienated from most mindless pop culture trends, and have rejected all political slogans for as far back as I can remember.

Far as filtering out junk goes, I'm doing my fucking best over here.

I didn't think this particular bit on Colbert was funny, but I'm not sure it was meant to be laugh-out-loud.

Ditto.
(The not laugh out loud bit I mean)

I think we're meant to be uncomfortable with that horrid song. I think one is supposed to look at it an an outsider would and see it for what it is. I think that is the message Colbert was trying to get across. He wanted his audience to look at that song and the arrogance of it in a way they are not used to if they are mindlessly singing along. If every time they hear that song and remember the discomfort of that moment in his "interview" then he's done what he set out to do.

Hmm, almost what I said, but I didn't consider the angle of deliberately trying to associate discomfort with that song.

Very good point.
As usual. :P

I probably didn't see that angle, because I already found the song lame.

I think the current national anthem, and "god bless America", suck, and are yankee-doodle-bullshit, and that either "America the beautiful", or "this land is your land", should be the anthem.

Course if were up to my own arbitrary personal taste, I'd randomly pick something by Black Sabbath or Queen depending on my mood that day.

Lots of South Park's jokes are very smart and well-thought out. But be honest, at least 15-20 minutes of each episode is just SUPPOSED to be funny. It's basically flat dialogue and/or gags in a hammy voice/animation that expects a laugh.

Well, don't get me started on South Park.
Give me a DVD, and a spanking new pause button to abuse, and I could tear it to shreds for hours.

Matt Stone's "aauur-raaur raaur!!", voice gets to me, the Michael Bay parody shit is used to death, the libertarian shit gets more blatant and shrill with each passing season, they peaked after the movie, and have gone downhill since...well, you get the idea.
I don't follow anything slavishly.
