214, yeah, some feminists focus on trivial matters which means ALL feminists are idiots.

I really don't get all this feminist hate. Why is it THEIR job to focus on the plight of muslim women in other countries, that's EVERYBODY's job? They live in America and the problems they address here, in our culture, SHOULD be addressed. The militant, rabid, and anti-porn variety is a thing of the past, unless I'm missing something...

I love how he thinks equal rights for women and gays is a "fleeting" cultural caprice. I love how he's going to die knowing in the back of his mind, that it probably isn't.

Coco, I recommend Skeptic magazine. A recent issue covered this, and it's easy to understand for the not-well-versed in science, and it's right up your alley. The new issue looks really good, too. It's about the likelihood of the evolution of intelligence.

edit: Well if you're curious enough, I could post some tastefully shot, i.e., I'm not spread-eagled in them, nudes, but I don't think too much detail would come through when I shrink them for the avatar. Plus, I tend to get banned when I do that.

10, I don't think so. The average shape shifted because the ratio of small beaked to large beaked shifted. The chances of several advantageous mutations, or any type really, occuring in the same gene over such a small time period are so small as to not be possible.

466. A Natural Selection

Comment #216909 by kkelly on July 23, 2008 at 4:48 pm

8, it was the frequency of the previous-existing alleles for beak size that changed in future generations. It wasn't like brand new mutations for beak size sprang up over and over again.

152, I'm sorry, I have to take a break from ignoring you to address that idiocy.

I originally thought you were joking about lesbianism being caused by bad dating experiences, but apparently not. There are consistent structural and organizational traits in the lesbian brain that are more similar to straight males than to straight females, and these traits are extremely unlikely to have come about through life experience, as they would have to have formed early on in CNS development. Moreover, many lesbians have a disorder called polycystic ovaries, which causes an abnormal amount of androgens, masculinization, and (ding! ding! ding!) lesbianism in at least half of sufferers, in addition to obesity. Many stereotypical bulldykes (think Rosie O'Donnell) are that way because of this disorder.

Lesbianism is most likely caused by prenatal, or in the case of polycystic ovaries, pubescent, exposure to too much testosterone, whatever the cause.

Now, studies have shown that normal women feel physiological bisexual arousal from visual stimuli, so in some cases I will grant you that being spurned by males could lead a woman to explore that route. But 35-40%?! How anecdotal of you.

The new statistically- and empirically-unfounded stance from the anti-vaccine camp does not blame thimerosal anymore. They are saying that the immune response to so many antigens at such a young age causes an unknown autoimmune reaction against some part of the brain.

This will be more difficult to convince them otherwise, because autoimmunity has been hypothesized as a cause for certain mental illnesses, with good reason, and because of the sporadic cases where vaccines did trigger autism-like symptoms in children with mitochondrial disorders, who as a group, respond inadequately and inappropriately to infection.

Oh, and how about those mothers who won't give their girls Gardasil because they think it might encourage promiscuity? Even if that logic were sound, there's still herpes, chlamydia, gono, etc. Yeah, the second they develop some immunity to HPV they're going to fuck around with a complete disregard for a life-long virus that periodically chars their vaginas with painful sores. People usually get infected with HPV during their first sexual relationships. How evil, in my opinion, to deny your daughter protection from something that will likely infect them during the course of their lives.

Whitepearl comes across to me as uptight, humorless, and actually INsecure for all her needless blustering about how confident she is. 116, Not even a little bit? It's not the same as claiming to be a catholic even though the pope says some pretty hateful things, which by comparison is politically defensible. Obama chose that church, knew for years how that pastor felt, and titled his autobiography after one of his sermons. Only when his nutbaggary became publicly known did he distance himself from the nutjob. I don't doubt for a second that Obama chose that church merely for political reasons, it being THEE church for upper-class black people in the Chicago area, and not because he agreed with everything the pastor preached. But the fact that he held the pastor in such high regard leads me to think that either he doesn't see anything wrong with people thinking that way (he's a moral relativist), or he does but has no personal integrity. He seems like the ultimate political animal to me.

68, you're not alone. Apparently most of the people in this country who accept evolution only accept it partially, and think that god was necessary for speciation, or at least human speciation. To me it's obvious that those people don't actually understand it, which means high school science education is horrible because it's easy to grasp if taught. My science education in college compared to in high school was incomprehensibly superior. They don't even teach you how nerves work in high school, it's ridiculous.

Also, I'm not an expert but there are many naturally-occuring molecules that change shape predictably when exposed to radiation of specific frequencies.

49, craigslist is so dirty, seriously. When I moved to san diego I found a temporary roommate in the M4M platonic section for a week while I looked for an apartment, and the guy turned out to be a lecherous assfuck in the beginning stages of AIDS who for no reason than just to shock me would tell me about how he smuggled drugs across the border up his ass, but used floor cleaner as lube thinking it was soap, which burned him bad enough to cause rectal prolapse.
