I too am an AGW skeptic. Not a denier! I believe that there is evidence for Global Warming. But we need to examine more closely if it is due purely, or even mainly, to solar activity or if it is anthropogenic. In actual fact AGW would be a better bet for mankind as there is at least an outside chance that we could do something about it. One thing I do know and that is when to recognise patterns in human behaviour. There is a huge industry now behind AGW, scientific, business and political, that is now geared towards keeping the public convinced of the merits of AGW. It keeps the prolls under control don't you know! It has happened before and it is happening again.

Actually not a bad idea. Why not take it a step further. Take two BB houses, populate one with people of 3 or 4 different religious beliefs and the other with agnostics, atheists, humanists and other non-believers. Give them the same very limited and basic rules to live by and see how they get on. They would, of course, have to create additional rules to supplement the very basic rules. Interesting proposition.

Henri, I don't think they said that it proved anything. This simply opens up a wonderful area for experimentation and analysis. It would be hilarious if it proved categorically that religious upbringing, rather than being a moral plus, is actually a negative influence. I think that is the more likely outcome of this type of research than the opposite.

This has already been covered ad-nauseum by Dawkins and Harris and probably the other 2 muskateers too. Where tensions arise for other reasons (nationalism, economic, etc.), religious difference just makes it easier to justify violent struggle. This has been proven time and time again. So a gentler faith would only stay gentle until such time as it is tested. Lump them all together, Religion, Nationalism, Political Ideology and throw them all in the dustbin of history.

I examine only the existing evidence and try to be as green in my lifestyle as possible. I could afford to run a gas guzzler but prefer to run a 50 mpg Skoda. What do you run? I recently made sure that my house was totally double glazed and that every room was properly sealed. That is just ordinary stuff that is common sense. What does the god of AGW do (Al Gore)? Believe me, I have heard more bollox than you will ever know. My theory (not a hypothesis note) is that the ruling elite have got us by the balls and they know it. Brian, you are starting to sound like the fundemental christians and muslims. Are you aware of that? Nobody is denying the point of global warming or that it takes place, what is being questioned is that we have to accept the so-called evidence for AGW and its 'likely' consequences without question or further debate.
It is people like you that actually puts people like me off the whole subject. Your arguments are not substantial, they are subjective.
591. Global Warming (includes commentary about creationism)
Comment #41903 by pewkatchoo on May 17, 2007 at 9:32 am
Sorry but I am still skeptical about AGW. I am not convinced that the hypotheses have morphed into a theory yet. The problem in the UK in particular is the shrillness of the media and the politicians 'the debate is over' tells me that they are using it as yet another scare story to keep us under control. Get us focussed on anything other than the fact that the elites are fucking us over yet again. The pro-agwers are doing the government's work for them by shouting down anyone who says 'now hang on a wee bit, can we have a look at all the evidence please'. I agree that we need to cut down on energy use (but who is going to tell China and India?) but there are other areas of the environment that may be even more urgent (sea pollution for example) that we can actually do something practical for. Mind you, it is clear that it is science that is going to find the answers, not a bunch of fundies praying to their invisible friends. Just look at the inovation of the Light Tower (in Spain or Portugal). That really is a fantastic achievement.
