26. Comment #161225 by Artful_Dodger -

So keeping God out of the picture (equation), in that sense, may make a lot of sense. That is why the agenda to KILL religous faith as a "scientific" project does not make sense, because it is science's role to explore the cosmos, not speculate as to the identity or non identity of its hpothetical originator.

Epeeist - Could you wheel out your lemmata?

Artful - 'Not part' of the universe? And yet you claim to have a book written about him? Just how screwed up are you that you can't have any consistency whatsoever in what you write?

16. Comment #161209 by Artful_Dodger -

Most people instinctively know that science and faith are not incompatible with each other, unless they have been hoodwinked into thinking they are either by religious fundamentalists on the one side or by the likes of Dawkins and his cohorts on the other.
Please, enlighten us as to what is not incompatible between science and religion. I would hazard a guess that several professional scientists who post on this site - this thread, even - would be curious to know precisely where they are compatible.

Artful, it's over to you.

23. Comment #160844 by Henri Bergson -

You commentators here are being very naive: you cannot judge another culture from your own culture's perspective.

'Human rights' is just a western notion that, like 'God', cannot be proven.

In other words, you're all acting like frenzied religious nutcases pushing your unjustified perspective on others.
Henri dribbles and pools of saliva puddle on the page.

Slave trade in the Congo - no problem, it's just their way.

Femal genital mutilation in muslim communities - well, that's their culture, none of our business, not our problem.

Henri, regrettably, appears have forgetten which end of the body he is supposed to speak from and has chosen the wrong one by mistake - or design.

Yet again, you show what a prick you are.

Pleased I got diverted to this thread for a few minutes. Not least for a thoughtful comment #21198 by one Richard Morgan.

One man is purported to have said, 'Judge not, lest yea be judged'. It is one of the things I agree with the original speaker on - but don't always practice - but agree with in principle. (Without the religious connotations, of course).

846. Comment #158752 by Goldy -

What would Jesus say?
Either:

'Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.' (Luke 23:34)

Or

'And if your hand offends you, cut it off. It is better for you to enter into life maimed than to have two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched.' Mark (9:43-46)

Neither of these are contradictory, of course...

62. Comment #158232 by epeeist -

Absolutely agree. It's that people are prone to equate engineer with mechanic. And mechanics use engineering priciples to fix things, so - in effect - they're another branch of applied science. I'll rely on my garage's mechanicsfor advice on the car, because, well, they damn well know what they're talking about. I've known car designers I wouldn't let anywhere near a sump for fear of what they'd do...

We digress. The real purpose of this post was to - at Vaal's implicit request - pronounce judgement upon the festering dung-pile known as kjmastaw.

Verdict: Guilty of perverting the course of Natural Selection.

Bailiff - send in the next defendant.

Aah, Mr Robertson, so nice to see you...

In real life I like to give people the benefit of the doubt (no, really I do) - after all, we are only human. This forum allows me a vent - something the majority of us need from time to time. I'm not entirely sure. I think that for some their god (or) gods give them a moral 'benchmark' to follow. However, some of the moral ones decide what the benchmark is on the grounds that you can pretty much make a case for any kind of behaviour as a theist - so they choose the 'best bits' and interpret the rest as, well, it was different in those days...
