601. Have-a-go deaths are never a waste

Comment #258663 by severalspeciesof on October 2, 2008 at 9:09 am

I was in this situation:
One evening my wife had heard some commotion outside our home, so she looked to see what was up. Some asshole had pushed his girlfriend/wife (don't know which) literally off his jeep and onto the concrete sidewalk, then sped off. She was in an extremely inebriated state, and she then tried to cross the road (a very busy one), luckily making it across where she promptly fell flat with a thud you could hear from where I was. The police had been called during all this. When I saw her fall down (across the street) I decided I needed to make sure she was all right. I made it across the street, and fortunately my neighbor had the same idea. But unfortunately her asshole aquaintance had come around, seeing us trying to help the woman out. She was by then, somehow, standing up. He forcefully put her back into the jeep (He was a hugh guy, I'm not, and neither my neighbor) He gave me a look and was ready to swing at me, until we told him that the police had been called. He then jumped into the jeep and started to go. Both of us stood in front of the jeep trying to stall him until the police came. He finally nailed it into reverse, and then swung around the both of us at high speed. Unfortunately the police got there too late, and I've never been able to find out if they ever caught up with the guy. I could have been severely injured or worse, but looking back at it...
I'd do it again in a heart beat.

When I was in college my roommate flip a coin 100 times. It wasn't a fair coin so it came up heads more then tails, but the damnedest thing happen, once it did land on it's side. Of course when it did he called me over to look at it. So from my perspective I saw one trial and it landed on it's
side.

Two points:
1) It's possible the roommate simply put the coin on its side while mjr1007's back was turned.
2) The roommate sounds quite sad.

Third point:
3) What decius said:
[mjr1007 is] so clueless that it's painful to watch.

I actually winced at that, Bonzai! Though in all honesty, it would be more appropriate to this thread than to the other thread.

I can prove things don't exist. I defy you to find me a two-headed cat with three heads, a plastic ball made of steel, a married bachelor, a square circle, a non-existent rock, a horse that is a dog, or an intellectually honest theist.

Wouldn't Steve be a married bachelor according to the theists who don't believe homosexuals should be married? He's married, but the marriage is void, thus he's a bachelor, yet he's married, but it's void,
ooowww, this kind of thinking hurts.
You win.

mjr1007 said,

If that is the sum total of your contribution to this discussion then you ought to sit this one out and let the adults talk.

...can't resist...
Guess that means you.

Listen, on a serious note, this all started on a post made by you over a year ago. I pointed out (265. Comment #257938 by severalspeciesof) that your argument is just one long non sequitur. You've NEVER proven otherwise, so be an adult and get going to prove that your original argument is not a non sequitur.

Now, I have to go now, so don't take a non-response to be a 'victory' of any sort for you. Others will surely take a bite at you, and so you be the adult and bite back, preferably with teeth and not the gummed nonsense of your first non sequitur posting.

Comment #257938 by severalspeciesof on October 1, 2008 at 9:17 am

For those folks coming here to see what this dribble is all about here is mjr1007's first post:

This seems to be the same atheist drivel repeated over and over again.

First, conflate God with religion.
Then poke holes in religion.
Thus God does not exist.

All you can really say is that ancient religion is not consistent.

Making fun of ancient understanding of God makes no more sense then making fun of ancient medicine. Leaches anyone.

It is a dull and boring exercise in futility.

For someone who claims to be driven by reason you have certainly missed the mark.

Let's try something new.

In quantum mechanics nothing occurs unless it's observed.
The act of observing influences the event.
Thing occur without human observation.
Things must have been observed.
The simplest explanation is an unseen universal observer.
This observer, observes all and therefore influences all.
Therefore there exist an all knowing all powerfull observer.
Some may choose to call the universal observer God.

If you are going to throw stones at an argument at least make it an interesting argument.

MJR

It's too bad, mjr1007, you don't even have an argument. It's all non sequitur...

My claim is that we should have 6 levels of god and meta-god. This is trivially true since 6 is a perfect number and one couldn't have a hierarchy of gods that weren't perfect.

Maybe 3 levels of 6 each so that it can be looked at thusly:
6

As a person who has taught art and has a B.A. in art, I'm ambivalent about this. My 'BS counter' is in the moderate zone with this. But I can appreciate art even when my 'BS counter' is in the danger zone. That's the fun part actually (to me), figuring out where the actual art starts and the BS begins. And anything to promote science as a positive is good in my book, though the word worship IS troubling.
