To replicate such an insufferable idiot as has performed above that would take science into depths not yet fathomed!

If I haven't said it enough, you are fine chap, worthy of many cups of Tea and medals - I still think you should write a book entitled "If Jerry Falwell had an enema..." you would make millions!
This perpetual motion stuff, sounds crazy to me, I want to see this chap actually prove it, part of me wants to see science possibly having to look at its mechanisms IF it proves worthy. I am not advocating taking this looney seriously. I think I have heard enough to say the inventor of this machine is talking bollocks and until proved otherwise will remain so. I also like the idea that science is continually being challenged to prove something right.

Even with my complete lack of knowledge about planet making (this is just me, I am not insinuating you are daft or anything I promise!), if you postulate that the planet was designed by something, then you have to find a designer for the designer and the designer for that too - that simply does not work. Its too complex and doesn't explain anything.
Also which "designer" was it? Allah, Odin, Zeus? Again, complexity and more questions that cannot be answered.
I think the others on here can explain things better about how the Earth was formed, but I don't see a designer anywhere. Look at Earth quakes, I remember someone saying to me that if the Earth was a different size earthquakes would not happen. There are multiple faults with this Earth's working parts which again I am sure there are folk on here who could explain things in a more accurate way but I thought I would add my own ideas as well. I hope that helps, even a little bit
Cheers

Go to Telegram Sam's cafe in Southampton, England and have one of their Big Breakfasts, truly The Best Fry Up there will ever be in life. Every person I have ever taken in there has walked out with a smile on their face. The breakfast comes with a FREE CUP OF TEA - what more do you want?
Right, on to the thread, Libertas thanks for that link, thought this line was the most telling
Baqeri added, "Sanctities and values of the entire faiths need to be respected and it is not acceptable to insult them and remain silent on excuse of safeguarding the freedom of speech."
He added, "Justifying such blasphemous acts that are against the foundations of humanity and the basics of democracy is totally unacceptable."

My goodness, I actually enjoyed that!
Bill usually makes me want to hurl imaginary custard pies at him because in the past he has been a little too weird even for my liking.
But that was a very good interview, he carried himself well, he was articulate, his points we well made and constructive. I completely agree with him, religion, whilst sometimes it can do some marginal good (though I would still question even that) it is destructive and unhelpful for the human race as a whole. The accusations of bigotry and "how dare you criticise the "FAITH" and the "TRUTH" you are not allowed" are things I am completely sick and tired of hearing but it seems to be the last ditch defence in some cases. So well done Bill, you have changed my mind a little, no more custard pies for the time being!

"People don't pray anymore, they don't go to church, they don't go to confession. The devil has an easy time of it," Amorth said in an interview. "There's a lot more devil worship, people interested in satanic things and seances, and less in Jesus.
"According to what I could perceive, the devil was present and acting in an obvious way," he said. "How else can you explain how a wife, in the space of a couple of weeks, could come to hate her own husband, a man who is a good person?"
Jankowski said that an archbishop granted him the authority last October to perform exorcisms and that he's been busy ever since. As for the afflicted wife? "We're still working with her," he said

I did enjoy that debate, Hitchens was very good indeed.
Once I stopped imagining that its was not Eddie Izzard the comedian doing an impression of Christopher Walkien (Utube it, its hilarious) and that it was Rabbi Boteach it got very interesting.
That guy is just one great big Ad hominum attacker and a consummate liar! He never answered a single question, he just frothed at Hitchens about how grumpy he is because he is not religious! Talk about pot calling he kettle black, I have always thought Hitchens to be rather jovial and fun!
But I did enjoy that, was a lively debate and Hitchens won it and won it well, bravo!

Dammit Steve and Cartomancer, I knew you two were up to something, esp you Cartomancer in your designer suit, you rascal! :)
I love the real reason behind all this that its "a perceived threat to Christian values"
What, gay people have been secretly plotting away all this time? So they are imagining a threat to their imaginary God and imaginary moral values, bloody hell, what an imagination these guys have got!
There is typical religion for you, whilst gay people are going about the business of normal human activities and not doing any harm to the world because of it and suddenly that is automatically seen as trouble and threatening! I guess you always have to watch the quiet ones! :)
I live near people who are too dim to peel an orange who are more of a threat to family values! They are only having kids so the government provides them with money and a home whilst they do nothing about contributing to society other than smoking, drinking and wreaking things which are not theirs. But as long as they are not gay and Christian then that is fine!
Yep, I think I have been offended, no doubt about it!

785. Pope says some science shatters human dignity
Comment #120551 by Philip1978 on February 2, 2008 at 12:36 am
I for one have a very strong dislike of the Catholic Church, I am actually wondering who the most evil man in this planet is, The Pope is high on my list.
I remember having a discussion with Fides et Ratio on another thread (*Cough* Which he never got around to answering *Cough*) and I kept pressing into him just precisely what an evil man Darth Benedict is but Fides was having none of it. To this day I still don't know why anybody gives this idiot (The Pope, Fides is no idiot!) the time of day - even with his Hat Diacanu!
I think, (perhaps miracles do happen!) that religion is the most magnificent device to block out all bad things that religites just do not want to know. Take Darth here, he does and says some of the most harmful things known to humanity and people love him for it. God, IF he was around, does all sorts of completely cruel and unnecessary things and people love him and the mental slavery that comes with worship for it.
Do some people just have this cut off switch or pair of Joo Janta Peril Sensitive Sunglasses (See Hitchhikers Guide) that automatically switches on and polices the brain into saying - "Don't worry about this, you just keep going there, nothing going on over there, move along!" So much so that the moment people start telling them "Jesus created the notion of Hell, he is a complete _insert favorite insult_ ", shutters slam down " JESUS IS LOVE, JESUS IS LOVE, move along, nothing to see etc!
What on Earth does it take to get through to these people? What is the cure for Stockholm Syndrome?
Well, if anyone knows of some idealistic farm boy who could actually be convinced that flying through hyperspace isn't like dusting crops, then we might have a go at removing Darth from his throne or even possibly redeeming him in the process! :)

I got the impression Richard Dimbleby actually wanted to stop things before they kicked off any further. Professor Dawkins got the point across, he made that guy admit that apostasy is a death penalty. The lady from the Ex Muslims group had already made the point that one of the girls she had heard about had been murdered by her father for not wearing the veil - for all his blustering that Muslim chap did not have a leg to stand on after that.
Dog Boots, I live in Maidenhead, I will go ask the Rabbi about that one! Technically you could give him points for not obfuscating, he was telling the truth after all! :) Obviously he then gets several million minus points for being evil towards kids but I appreciated his honesty!
Hmm I think people are right here, why no reaction to any of the more nasty points in this, were they all afraid of the Baby Eating Bishop of Bath and Wells?

Mainly in my younger years RE was simply looking at Bible passages but when I moved up to about 17 the teacher, a Reverend, actually encouraged discussion from various members in the class about their beliefs or we had visitors come in to chat as well. Lab coat would suffice surely! :)
What is so telling in this debate is that there are always going to be people like those school kids brought in to say "But I am not suffering" and all the people representing the faiths failing miserably to squirm out of the problems set against them. All of them were bending over backwards to show their religion isn't the oppressive and highly ridiculous farce that they actually are forcing upon kids in schools.
Kids are being brought up in a religion which they have no say in, its a fact and its highly wrong. I completely agree with Paul42's and Pyota's posts in particular, though all have been excellent, about the segregation of faith schools. I too don't see the point if they are all supposedly claiming they are going to teach everything anyway, why have the bias towards one faith? No, if religions are to survive they must hijack the kids lest they end up on the myth and legend list with the plethora of all the other religions humankind has discarded.
I too had most disagreement with the Muslim Dr who Professor Dawkins challenged very well indeed. (Though the Catholic lady and the Anglican chap were not far behind!) I thought his arguments about there being a difference between Islamic law in an Islamic ruled country and this one were exceedingly poor. I don't actually remember it being allowed for Islamic Law to be changed when it comes to reading the Qu'ran or the Hadiths, they have to be read in their absolute literal sense. Apostasy IS a crime for which is punishable by death under Islamic Law which would be taught at an Islamic school.
So, again, my thanks to Professor Dawkins and all the others who are campaigning against this sort of thing, its encouraging that your voices are being heard.
Time for Pink Floyd I feel:

As if you dont have enough people harassing you with questions, I am going to join in as well! mwhahahahaha! :)
You are saying the Bible is infallible yes?
I too am going to have to disagree on this based on various historical inaccuracies.
What year was Jesus born in - Do I go with Luke and say around 6 AD or Matthew in around 6BC?
http://www.infidels.org/library/modern/richard_carrier/quirinius.html
Jesus is reported to have grown up in the city of Nazareth - How come it was being used as a graveyard up until 67 AD which means it was still a graveyard during his entire life span?
If we go with Matthew 2.22,23 on this one
But when he heard that Archelaus did reign in Judaea in the room of his father Herod, he was afraid to go thither: notwithstanding, being warned of God in a dream, he turned aside into the parts of Galilee: And he came and dwelt in a CITY called Nazareth: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, He shall be called a Nazarene.
Of course there was the prophesy made in Judges 13.5
"For, lo, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; and no razor shall come on his head: for the child shall be a Nazarite unto God from the womb: and he shall begin to deliver Israel out of the hand of the Philistines."
A Nazarite is one who vows not to cut his hair and devotes their life to God - Came from a cursed Jewish sect out from around 1AD called the Nazerenes. Somehow Matthew has twisted it around to make it seem that Jesus grew up in Nazareth to fit the prophesy - I find that a bit fishy to be honest.
The Nazarenes were driven from their home towns during the Bar Kochba revolution in 135AD where, after splitting into two groups 'Evyonim'-Nosrim and the Christian'-Nosrim they, the 'Evyonim'-Nosrim, resettled in a place they named Nazareth - City of the Poor.

Even then I find that evidence a bit sketchy since the only bit of evidence I have seen for that one is from a find in Ceaserea in 1962 of some marble fragments confirming the plight of the people who fled during the revolution. Due to a mistranslation it looked like one of the fragments said that Nazareth was one of the plces fled to when in fact it was better translated as Gennesaret (see this http://www.atheists.org/christianity/jesuslife.html
for further details)
Those are just two examples, a lot of people on here have presented many others, don't you get the feeling that perhaps the Bible is not as reliable as you think?
I think you have a lot of questions to wade through so just answer this when you can but I would be interested to hear your views on it

Very interesting, I have always been rather at odds with church goers who are also gay, its like they want to punish themselves or are completely oblivious to the mad doctrines of that religion that specify quite strictly that thou shalt not have sex with men if thou art male thyself! Same goes for those sinful females as well!
I think its hideous enough the ridiculous and dangerous emphasis most religions hurl at being gay as it can have very dangerous consequences. The believers don't understand and think its something that can be "cured" through worship.
But I suppose I should not be surprised that people can be gay and be Catholic, Anglican or any other gay hating religion, if they can believe in invisible things they can twist the religion to suit themselves.
