801. Lying for Jesus?
Comment #149338 by Diacanu on March 25, 2008 at 1:37 pm
Well, I might be weighing in a bit late here, but here's my thoughts on the whole lying for Jesus thing.
I've observed lying for Jesus as breaking down into roughly three types.
1.) People that actually believe the Bible bullshit, actually believe they're lying for Jesus, and are thus doing a good thing.
2.) Cold blooded pragmatists who don't even believe the Bible bullshit, but have a contemptuous view of mankind, and think people need to be kept in line with religion, so they shovel the religion bullshit to prevent some sort of imaginary cannibal orgy, and therefore think lying for Jesus is a good thing.
3.) Full blown sociopaths who don't believe the Bible bullshit, couldn't care less about the rest of mankind except themselves, possibly their immediate family, and definately their fucking bank accounts, and know religion is a good racket, and will fight tooth and nail to defend it, as much so as the first type.
Scary thing is, you really can't tell the 3 apart.
You can get flickers of it in those little instants when one of them is bullshitting, knows he's bullshitting, and knows you know he's bullshitting.
But even then, for the practiced and habitual liar, I don't think even a mindmeld would tell you, because they lie inside their own fucking head so much.
Given that, I don't even bother trying to tell the difference anymore.
I write 'em all off as the third type now.
What's really the difference in the end?
Y'know?
You get the same destructive results, and a bullshitter is a bullshitter.
Fuck 'em.
Anyone is welcome to point out some subtle but important difference I'm missing, but until that happens, screw it, they're all type 3 to me.
Only thing separating a type 1 from types 2-3 is the doey eyed delusional pseudo-innocence.
But um,...fuck that.
A soldier who shoots at you cuz he's "just following orders", and is trying to haul in a check to feed his cute little family is just as deadly as the SS officer to me.
Screw their doey eyes, screw their tiny tears, tear down their lies, expose the fraud, and kick the type 2-3s that hide behind them in the nuts.
Type ones picked the wrong fucking team, simple as that, screw 'em.
Duplicity is duplicity, to fuck with how holy they think it is.

Oh, I saw Clearthinker is STILL using the "angry at a God you supposedly don't believe in", argument.
I called him out in another thread on how he's had that one answered endless times, and it doesn't seem to sink into his thick skull.
But, I realized his answer would make me puke, and he'd just do it again anyway, so I deleted the post.
Perhaps I shouldn't've.
Maybe we should all hound him on it until we get a no-bullshit answer.
Hey, Clearthinker, no one's angry at God, dipshit.
He doesn't fucking exist.
It's members of his fanclub that sicken us.
Just like how Captain Kirk doesn't exist, but some types of Trekkies fucking annoy me.
Except, Captain Kirk is cool, and Yahweh is an asshole.

For example, they believe that the human species is marching forward, that there is an advancement toward some kind of collective moral progress -- that we are moving towards, if not a Utopian, certainly a better, more perfected human society.
That's fundamental to the Christian right, and it's also fundamental to the New Atheists.
You know, there is nothing in human nature or in human history that points to the idea that we are moving anywhere.

A Roman Catholic bishop has likened books which criticise the teachings of the Church to works that deny the Holocaust took place.
The Rt Rev Patrick O'Donoghue, Bishop of Lancaster, told MPs that books critical of the Catholic faith should be banned from school libraries.

Conversely, you never hear religionists forsake something disproven by science like a geocentric universe, or a flat earth, as a lie, or a mistake, or a bad hypothesis.
It becomes "a metaphor", or "it doesn't really say that", or "man makes mistakes, God doesn't".
Always more bullshit to cover the pre-existng bullshit.

Anyone see "The Root Of All Evil", with Lewis Black last night?
You get crowds of people cheering anti-catholic sentiment these days.
And then you get assholes like this who keep shooting themselves in the foot.
Beautiful.
Oh, and there's a new directive against social injustice?
How about they sell off some of their fuckin' Vatican gold to feed the poor?

The Age Of Reason kicks ass, and yes, it destroys the Bible, and no, no one has really successfully countered it.
The only way it was countered in his day was to just call him a heretic, and ruin his reputation, which is probably what religionists wish they could do to Dawkins.
Probably why they pull their hair out over "the rising tide of secularism", and say "we're in a culture war", they can't stand they can't destroy people they disagree with anymore.

This one was on c-span too.

Well, right out of the gate from the TITLE, you can tell they don't understand evolution.
Or, don't want to.
Given the twits I saw on c-span, more bullshittery from the con artists.
And it counts as a flea book, because even though they don't acknowledge any horseman in the title, they clearly stated their sole reason for writing it was "the new atheism", and "the rising tide of secularism in America".

Steve/Richard-
Heh, well, there'd be no shortage of material for a book like that.
I was just thinking to myself last night, that the majority of the people on this planet are in the grips of the religion delusion, or some kind of similar superstition.
Then, you have all the political ideologies and opinions that are unworkable wackaloonism.
And then, you have all the plain awful bad ideas that are unclassifiable that pour out of the average person's head day in day out that lead them to idiotic Dr. Phil/Jerry Springer guest behavior.
Lump it all together, and 98% of this planet is absolutely fucking bonkers!
Bonkers!
The planet is a fuckin' loony bin!
And yet, in the midst of this chaos, you have these self appointed leaders of government, business, and religion, who dress up in their stupid little costumes (and they are costumes, every last one, I've even always thought the business suit looked retarded), and put on their masks of sanity, and tell you they have all the answers, and people feel relieved that all these authorities have it all figured out, meanwhile, the Washington crooks are stealing everyone's money, the business crooks are bribing the Washington crooks, and the religious crooks are getting skim from everybody, and on top of all THAT, the Washington crooks are starting WARS for...MONEY!!
And you're told, that if you reject all this,...you're a nihilist and quite possibly a sociopath...
.....shit, there's my opening fucking chapter.
