52. Do stop behaving as if you are God, Professor Dawkins

Comment #229325 by Roy_H on August 13, 2008 at 11:25 am

"How many people do you know who started to believe in Santa Claus in adulthood?"

So what is the difference in starting to believe in God in adulthood?
This is typical McGrath speil
"It is not the gaps in our understanding of the world that point to God, but rather the comprehensibility of scientific and other forms of understanding that requires an explanantion. In brief the argument is that explicability itself requires explanation"

54. On TV: The Genius of Charles Darwin: Presented by Richard Dawkins

Comment #228172 by Roy_H on August 11, 2008 at 3:01 pm

If I may quote Sir David Attenborough :-
"My response is that when Creationists talk about God creating every individual species as a separate act, they always instance hummingbirds, or orchids, sunflowers and beautiful things. But I tend to think instead of a parasitic worm that is boring through the eye of a boy sitting on the bank of a river in West Africa, [a worm] that's going to make him blind. And [I ask them], 'Are you telling me that the God you believe in, who you also say is an all-merciful God, who cares for each one of us individually, are you saying that God created this worm that can live in no other way than in an innocent child's eyeball? Because that doesn't seem to me to coincide with a God who's full of mercy'"

57. Call to teach biblical creation as science

Comment #225664 by Roy_H on August 7, 2008 at 7:19 am

Why not teach kids about "Coronation Street" or "Eastenders"? there is about as much truth in them as there is in Creationism. Mind you, some viewers think those characters are real, not actors!

58. Evangelically Serious Science

Comment #223753 by Roy_H on August 3, 2008 at 10:42 am

"Father Coyne, amazingly, admitted to me that there was literally no good reason at all to believe in God. Of course I promptly asked him why, then, he did believe. His answer was very simple: "I was brought up Catholic."
Priceless!... Did you hear that Herr Ratzinger?

60. Review interview: Richard Dawkins

Comment #223609 by Roy_H on August 2, 2008 at 10:50 pm

"A few of the pupils readily tell him they don't believe in evolution because it runs counter to their religious beliefs. It's only after he bundles them into a coach and shows them fossils at the seaside that one or two admit there might be something in this evolution gig after all. "

That should happen to every kid in the country, let them see for themselves, show them the truth.

61. Faith is not the answer

66. Losing Sight of Progress

Comment #215435 by Roy_H on July 21, 2008 at 10:32 pm

67. Richard Dawkins slaps creationists into the primordial soup

Comment #213793 by Roy_H on July 18, 2008 at 10:36 pm

"The word Brights gets a lot of ridicule. A lot of Americans think it's arrogant, that it's saying non-religious people are cleverer than religious people. On average they probably are, but you're not allowed to say that."
Beautiful!

68. Taking a Cue From Ants on Evolution of Humans

Comment #211370 by Roy_H on July 15, 2008 at 10:52 pm

"Curators are checking the drawers, dominated by the tall figure of Dr. Wilson, who is trying to contain his excitement: the 14,001st ant species has just been discovered in the soils of a Brazilian forest."
Yet good old Noah managed to get two of each of them onto that big old boat of his, wonderful eh?

Exactly! while the rest of us just have a good laugh about it all. It clearly illustrates the fact that the bible itself is so full of contradictions, how can anyone take it seriously? "It is not just the blind that cannot see...."

83. Top 6 Incestuous Relationships In The Bible

Comment #186202 by Roy_H on May 29, 2008 at 10:47 pm

The late, great comedian Dave Allen used to talk about this (specifically The Garden of Eden myth)saying that the whole human race must have started out from an incestuous relationship once Adam and Abel were dead.... nothing new here!

Unless you at the moment you happen to be Chinese, or Burmese, or on that faithful Boxing Day ,Thai or .... well, need I go on?
Oh and think of the deluded millions PRAYING TO GOD asking him to help the victims of the disasters that had he existed, he could have so easily prevented.

96. Police: Girl Dies After Parents Pray for Healing Instead of Seeking Medical Help

Comment #150451 by Roy_H on March 26, 2008 at 11:40 pm

This is another example of "she lived = ah it was miracle , she died = ah but it was Gods will!" The parents should be prosecuted, child abuse through religion yet again! I can remember a case many years ago where the child of a Jehovah's Witness family died because the parents would not sign the consent form for a life saving blood tranfusion to be performed. My mother was particularly upset by this. By coincidence , that Saturday morning there was knock on the door. Guess who? yes, a couple of Jehovah's Witless guys! My mum, (who was not usually given to losing her temper with anyone )gave them the most almighty bollocking I have ever heard , telling them bugger off and NEVER to knock on our door again !
