51. The Language of Ignorance

Comment #4915 by Roy on November 6, 2006 at 10:43 pm

I have never had a reasonable answer to this question :-
If an 'all powerful' god could create man in his own image, why did he take 14 billion years to do so?

Olorin,
I had a look at the the link you so kindly posted.

How do creationists, for example, account for the fact that some whales (and indeed some snakes) still have the remnants of a pelvis and back legs within their bodies?
When I read the bit about how Noah managed to get all the animals into the ark ( because they were all babies) I almost fell off my chair laughing. You couldn't make it up could you!

Probably he does not think there is a hell to burn in after all!

Who was it that said "There is no nonsense more nonsensical than religeous nonesense" ? I was reminded of that when I read the Muriel Grey article (on this very website) about "A teacher who wants to have the right to mumble at her pupils whilst wearing a bag on her head" ( muslim 'burka' or what ever they call it )

58. Pasadena, CA Event

I was there with my student group. The Q&A was the best part. Dawkins is so very eloquent and quick on his feet when talking.
I even took some pictures with him. I'll e-mail them to the site.

May I quote Sir David Attenborough?
"My response is that when Creationists talk about God creating every individual species as a separate act, they always instance hummingbirds, or orchids, sunflowers and beautiful things. But I tend to think instead of a parasitic worm that is boring through the eye of a boy sitting on the bank of a river in West Africa, a worm that's going to make him blind. And I ask them, 'Are you telling me that the God you believe in, who you also say is an all-merciful God, who cares for each one of us individually, are you saying that God created this worm that can live in no other way than in an innocent child's eyeball? Because that doesn't seem to me to coincide with a God who's full of mercy."

You used to be able to watch the Penn and Teller Bullshit "The Bible" on Google Video. Sadly not now.

62. Atheists' delusions about God

Do you think Jesus was having a laugh when he refered to his followers as 'Sheep' ? ( Mind you, if you have ever seen these American 'Televangelists' at work, the effect they have on their 'flock' )......enough said.

Why is "Theology" an "ology" when it is not a science like say, palaeonotology and geology ( Two true sciences that have shown what utter tripe religion really is) Don't you just hate it when "I have no idea how it happened" becomes "Duh God did it of course!"
If you want a good laugh ( showing how absurd the bible koran and book of mormon really are )I recommend http://www.skepticsannotatedbible.com/

The God Delusion, "The Argument From Beauty" As for having no problem listening to and appreciating The St. Matthew Passion : Ralph Vaughan Williams once said "Why should an atheist not write a good mass?" He was a non believer yet he is credited with editing the English Hymnal. There is no more magnificent liturgical choral work written in the 20th century than Benjamin Britten's "War Requiem". Britten himself was an atheist.
