51. Richard Dawkins: 'Growth in creationist beliefs a problem for schools'

Comment #156260 by Pattern Seeker on April 7, 2008 at 7:49 am

beebhack-

I can agree there. But they were due...

The problem is one of our greatest musical exports, Frank Zappa, is
dead.

52. Richard Dawkins: 'Growth in creationist beliefs a problem for schools'

As an American, it seems the only things we export these days are wars and religious stupidity.

Sorry, 'bout that.

53. Cult leader Pyotr Kuznetsov tries suicide after realising he was wrong about doomsday

Comment #154704 by Pattern Seeker on April 3, 2008 at 3:24 pm

I think next time Pyotr should ask "someone else" to smash him over the head with a log. Obviously, he wasn't doing a very good job. He's as bad at killing himself as he is at predicting the 'End Of The World.'

54. Upside-down church sculpture on hit list

Comment #154694 by Pattern Seeker on April 3, 2008 at 3:16 pm

As an artist myself, my personal suggestion would be to have all the local citizens pee in a large glass structure and place the sculpture inside it.

55. Pastor attacks scientist's talk

Comment #154688 by Pattern Seeker on April 3, 2008 at 3:09 pm

What is it exactly about Prof. Dawkins that makes these people tremble with fear? Do they really think (ha) that he's going to change into the Anti-Christ right in front of them without a 'man of the cloth' there to protect them?

I mean, c'mon, everyone knows his 'Beast' costume is still in the shop for repairs after his last book tour.

56. Vatican: Islam surpasses Roman Catholicism as world's largest religion

Comment #152920 by Pattern Seeker on March 31, 2008 at 5:50 pm

This has to be the world's most meaningless statistic...

Talk about making shit up and wrapping it in pseudoscientific census data. WTF!? Are these people for real?

So I guess the result of their study shows that Islam is full of more deluded people than Roman Catholicism? Does anybody else read it this way?

57. Vote on freedom of expression marks the end of Universal Human Rights

Comment #152912 by Pattern Seeker on March 31, 2008 at 5:41 pm

I'm sure all of this is much more complicated than it looks, but the sad thing is, as an artist myself, freedom of expression is my livelihood. Without my ability to speak truth to power and use humor to expose lies, I have nothing.

I posted in the forum section on 'Faith and Religion' a public access program I just finished about religion. Go and watch and and tell me whether or not my 'freedom of expression' will place my life in peril. Some of it is quite deliberately provocative. I haven't received any threats yet, but it has only been up for a couple of days. I don't doubt the possibility.

58. Christian Founders 3D Adventure Computer Game

Comment #152897 by Pattern Seeker on March 31, 2008 at 5:23 pm

Only an IDiot would purchase this game. Anyone who knows anything about American History will laugh at this game and the people who would buy it. I just find it sad that it this day and age people are so ignorant of their country's history. And that there are people who are willing to distort that history to further their own agenda. Pathetic.

59. In His Name We Pray, Ramen

Comment #151769 by Pattern Seeker on March 29, 2008 at 10:55 am

Read along to get a laugh and found they included something about the kid from Weaverville, NC. I remember this story when it first broke around here (I live in Western North Carolina) and how people were going ape-shit. Hilarious. The kid was pretty witty, if I remember correctly.

On a side note-

I produce (and pretty much everything else, as well) a public access television show here in Carolina. It seems to take up a lot of my spare time, but I find it challenging. Anyways-my latest effort is about RELIGION! It will hit the airwaves in a few days, but here's your chance to see it first.

http://youtube.com/user/zackglickman

It's a half-hour program split into 5 parts. Here is a quick blurb on what it's about.

A satirical look at some of our favorite educational and public domain films of yesteryear, 'Public Flogging' is a public access show now available for online consumption. An eclectic mash-up of comic book, pop-ups, animations, subliminals and FX, 'Public Flogging' is unlike anything you've ever seen...or been so offended by. You've been warned-Now, prepare to be ridiculed.

Let me know what you think.

Sorry for the thread diversion...

Regards,

Zack

Aries the Ram-

Prepared to be overwhelmed with e-mail messages congratulating you on your birth. Expect numerous salutations and best wishes accompanied with alcohol toasts. Enjoy your day and relax with family and friends. An old lover wishes to get reacquainted. Just go with the flow.

At least file charges for willful negligence. I'm sick and tired (of being sick and tired) of religious mumbo-jumbo always getting some sort of pass. This is child abuse all in the name of some imaginary being. Sometimes humans can make me so frickin' sick...

And the winner of the 2008 Bunny H. Christ Prize goes to...

Professor Richard Dawkins!

For his unwavering, and unmitigated support of my non-existence. Thank you for always not believing in me. Your faithlessness should inspire us all. My Non-Self Blesses You.

63. The science of religion: Where angels no longer fear to tread

Comment #148543 by Pattern Seeker on March 23, 2008 at 9:20 am

Hey Everyone! I'm your host, Bunny H. Christ, and welcome to-

"LET'S PLAY DICTATOR!"

For those of of you playing along at home, it's time to explain the rules-

1. 'Introduce' the idea that a 'Dictator' actually exists and he loves you.

2. 'Prime' your mind by reading religious "horseshit"* phrases.

3. 'Pretend' that someones gives you some "mad money" to buy anything. Say ten dollars. About the same price as a gallon of gas.

4. Get someone to ask if you would like to share it. If you punch them in the face and say 'No', then- YOU WIN!

Is everyone ready to play?

Then- "LET'S PLAY DICTATOR!"

*scientific term

"Happy Beaster!"

67. The Secular Conscience

Comment #146961 by Pattern Seeker on March 19, 2008 at 3:25 pm

As an American, we need more voices like this to suppress the 'white noise' of fundies. Anything that promotes reason and critical thinking, as compared to blind allegiance, is a positive.

Now if we could just get Professor Dawkins to move here like Christopher HItchens did a few years ago...

Professor, are you listening-Or should I say reading this?

68. Sci-fi guru Clarke to have secular funeral

Comment #146949 by Pattern Seeker on March 19, 2008 at 3:16 pm

All I can say is-

A friend introduced me to Clarke's sci-fi writings about 15 years ago with 'Childhood's End.' Simply incredible. Haven't been the same since...

'2001: A Space Odyssey' is the greatest science fiction movie ever made. Period. All other sci-fi movies have either tried to top it or just plain imitate it (story, FX, etc.), but to no avail. Regardless, writers and filmmakers around the world have been paying homage to it since its arrival...

Finally-A quote from Sir Arthur, maybe not his most famous, but
definitely my favorite..."Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." Boo...

Hoo... I look forward to the day when I introduce my 3-year old son to your work. We'll miss you Sir Arthur!

Comment #146551 by Pattern Seeker on March 19, 2008 at 7:28 am

Beelzebub clears the puck along the boards on the far side delivering a hard forecheck to the face of Moses...Lucifer has the puck and passes to Mammon on the left side, who quickly passes back to Lucifer...two minutes left for Abraham in the penalty box for a minor...Lucifer swings the puck to Mephisto, who just cleared the blue line, charging hard down the right wing after planting a vicious hit on the unsuspecting Virgin Mary... Mephisto sweeps the puck back across the middle to Lucifer leaving King David to go crashing hard into Jesus behind the nets...Whoa! Lucifer unleashes a one-timer from 15 feet...nothing is gonna touch that-Holy Crap-Jesus Saves! Jesus Saves!-I f#ckin' can't believe! He was just knocked down by David and lost his stick, somehow got to his feet, turned and blindly dove and made the most incredible glove save I have ever witnessed...Lucifer had a clean shot on goal, they had the powerplay...Hell, I thought this game was tied...Incredible-Jesus Saves-Hallelujah...

"Argh i get so upset by this kinda stuff i can't think straight!"

I totally agree.

Let's put it this way-
I don't have the best relations with the members of my family (partly because of my lack of belief), but I can say that if they did anything like this to any member of my family, the next day they would awaken to a burned down ministry.

People who take advantage of the sick and mentally ill should be granted "No Mercy!"

Pun Intended.

73. The Great Tantra Challenge

Comment #144602 by Pattern Seeker on March 16, 2008 at 12:01 pm

This reminds me of this bit I'd seen the other night from an Irish comedian by the name of Tommy Tiernan.

I'd never seen his comedy before, but his antics drew me in. I sat and watched for a few minutes when he started talking about Joel Osteen and his mega-church. He mentions the fact that Osteen looks nothing like a preacher from where he comes from, more like a businessman. He mentions that Osteen just preaches bullshit and always talks about how Jesus wants us to be happy, and on and on. Tiernan then says something about the fact that they have a name for people like Osteen in Ireland-

RETARDED

I about wet myself. Priceless.

This 'tantrik, voodoo, black magic' joker reminded me of that.
Sure, you may scare or influence the people in your immediate area or country, but go anywhere else and most people will think you're a frickin' retard.

74. In Britain, creationist theory is evolving

Comment #144598 by Pattern Seeker on March 16, 2008 at 11:44 am

I think the last name of the founder of 'Answers in Genesis'(ha) actually says it all-HAM.

According to the dictionary the 2nd definition of 'Ham' states-
(noun), an excessively theatrical actor.

That sounds about right.

75. The atheist delusion

Comment #144489 by Pattern Seeker on March 16, 2008 at 8:03 am

This is the type of person who speaks only because he loves the sound of his own voice, and writes because he actually 'believes' people will read his garbage. Thanks, but no thanks. After the first two paragraphs I realized I've read, or heard, it all before.

Blah, Blah, Dawkins, Blah, Blah, Atheist, Blah, Blah, Bleeeeeeechhh!

76. Selling science to the masses

Comment #144177 by Pattern Seeker on March 15, 2008 at 9:07 am

I definitely can relate to where they are coming from. I agree with the idea of making science more relatable and accessible to the masses, but not with their methods.

As an American raised in the North, but now living in the South, I have seen just how different science is viewed in this country. Don't get me wrong, "wackos" live everywhere here, it's just an overt air of contempt for science on all levels in the South. People need to be better educated on science in general, the question is how? Most public schools fail in that regard and the MSM only use it if it fits their agenda, mostly casting a negative light, and not truly informing or educating.

So the question still remains-How do we as individuals who understand and relate to science, get others who don't understand modern science, or better yet, for the most part, those who won't understand science, better informed and educated?

77. I don't believe in atheists

Comment #143660 by Pattern Seeker on March 14, 2008 at 9:30 am

As a long time voyeur of this forum, I thought it was time to finally get involved...

What is truly amazing is how easily these 'apologists' misappropriate words and ideas. Take fundamentalist for instance. Mr. Hedges says in his article that he's "... an enemy of fundamentalism, period."

Taking him at his word, does this mean that one is not supposed to have a firm understanding of fundamentals before pursuing their respective careers? And if so, is this why his lack of knowledge is so readily apparent? These people are talking to ghosts and swinging at shadows. I think next time he should listen to what he's going to say, before he opens his mouth to say it.
