181, I mean can they conceptualize it. Sure they can understand the mathematical explanations, so obviously it's not on faith. You're an idiot though, and I don't plan on talking to you.

edit: and their predictions based on the theory are accurate.

Does anybody really understand quantum physics? I still don't understand gravity. Why and how does mass warp space? You can look at an illustration where space is treated as a plane, but does that even help? not me. I think I was able to conceptualize relativity when I learned it but what do I know?

I don't find Colbert LOL funny so I don't watch. I despise the daily show and how the audience laughs at every stupid fucking thing Stewart says. And this atheist yells out "but that's where I poop from!!" during sex.

I agree with you Tera, about not using an automobile unless it's absolutely necessary given how much violence they cause. I also agree that we should never go out in public unless absolutely necessary, for the violence we inflict on others with our germs is sinful. And we don't even have to act irresponsibly by coughing and sneezing or not washing our hands to be complicit in the carnage. All we have to do is breathe. Sidewalks aren't safe, the flu virus spreads most efficiently in cold, dry air because it's able to stay afloat longer (smaller water droplets). A walk down to the corner shop to get that carton of milk you don't need might make you a murderer. Just breathe in flu virus, take it home to your family and uh oh, grandma's dead. Even if she isn't, the grandma of your kid's friend's aunt's son-in-law's kid's friend's grandma is. All because you're a selfish asshole who wanted a carton of milk that YOU DIDN'T NEED. And what is it, 60,000 deaths/year in this country alone? That beats traffic deaths by about 20,000. So please, please apply your logic skills to this issue because only you are smart enough to convince everybody.

Bonzai, I just realized that your hypothetical was disregarding that the brain traits were the type that could only have a biological cause.

All your hypothetical shows is that A leads to XY 30% of the time, it says nothing of what percentage of XY is caused by A, you need other information for that, and the early-formed brain traits provide that, they rule out environment by virtue of being early-formed.

912, Well, can't you find gay guys on there to go to the gay bars together? I'm pretty misanthropic too, and it's hard for me to form friendships with people I'm not sexually attracted to, but it's much easier and more enjoyable going to the bars with friends.

edit: I used to resort to just walking up to strangers at the supermarket, or in parking lots, or anwhere, and going "are you gay?". Only one was, but as soon as he spoke I lost interest. I think I need to start doing that again.

899, Why is it morally wrong? Why is it morally wrong for a parent to abort a fetus if they discovered it was going to be gay? If you're pro-choice (I'm actually pro-abortion), then you shouldn't see anything morally wrong with it, you should just consider the parents at least, unthinking idiots, and at most bigotted shitheads, but the life of the fetus is moot in my opinion.

I fully accept the likelihood that there are different ways to homosexuality, some more hardwired than others, but the data shows that there is one main way, which is hardwired. I'm also aware of how culture muddles the expression and acceptance of gay identity and behavior.

So...If I saw you, and interacted with you, and spoke with you, I'm sure I'd be able to tell you were gay (and therefore very likely the XY-type with feminized brain traits), in a heartbeat.

Comment #238982 by kkelly on August 28, 2008 at 8:52 pm

892, Your first point, I was being semi-facetious, but I do think that they are thinking about men most of the time, that is, if they are the ones who later discover that they are exclusively homosexual.

I'm not looking at the outliers, I'm looking at self-identified, exclusively gay men, you know the ones, the hundreds of thousands who participate in the fucking pride parades, or gay rights causes? Those ones.

Yes, you do have to come up with an explanation to show why I am wrong by saying it is unlikely that there are other types of exclusive homosexuals that aren't being studied. I never said it was impossible, just very unlikely. There's no fallacious thinking on my part, just oddly wishful thinking on yours.

edit: and we're FURRIES, we fuck FURRY stuffed animals (but never animaniacs, don't ask), get it right.

Comment #238975 by kkelly on August 28, 2008 at 8:35 pm

886, I accept that sexual arousal can be sparked by physical contact with another person, regardless of sex, and that during such gross acts with a woman, one's thoughts could be about men, or man-woman porn scenes, which is why naturally exclusively gay oriented men can experience arousal and belated ejaculation with a women if social pressures get the better of them. So, yes, simplistically, you were counterfeit (deluded).

That isn't to say that there are no bisexuals, or that the Kinsey scale is antiquated and wrong (I think it is, though). Biology is very probabalistic, and the studies show that biological conditions early in life largely determine orientation. As I said, come up with a good explanation for why XY-gays are more likely to yada yada yada.

Comment #238968 by kkelly on August 28, 2008 at 8:17 pm

884, Oh. My. God. okay. okay. XY is an exclusive subset of A. A does not always lead to XY, but XY never exists outside of A.

81. Channel 4 announces return of Undercover Mosque

Comment #238966 by kkelly on August 28, 2008 at 8:12 pm

881, And is that something else (A), non-biological? That isn't possible considering these brain traits are the type that occured before environment could have had a chance to act.

It doesn't matter how many babies exposed to A end up with XY, get that through your head, please.

Your only hope is coming up with a good explanation for why only this type of gay man (with XY, assuming there are other types) is being studied.

We are defining gayness as exclusive attraction to same sex. Now explain why XY-gays are more likely than other types to acknowledge their gayness, or to participate in a study.

Comment #238959 by kkelly on August 28, 2008 at 7:49 pm

879, I'm sorry, it's NOT logical to assume these brain traits found only in these self-selected gay men are causing homosexual orientation? Are you saying something else entirely (non-biological) is causing both? what is it? Are you saying gay orientation is causing these brain traits? impossible. Your hypothetical showed nothing.

Well, in these studies, it's self-identified as exclusively homosexually oriented.

edit: Do you understand that a trait can still be biologically caused in all cases, despite the fact that the biolical factor doesn't cause said trait every time it's present?

83. Channel 4 announces return of Undercover Mosque

Comment #238954 by kkelly on August 28, 2008 at 7:39 pm

I see you're done with this. The studies show that early-developed (only cause can be biological) brain traits correlate strongly with gayness in self-identified gays. It's logical to infer causation. In the future, your only hope at being taken seriously is coming up with some good explanations for why this type of exclusively gay man is more likely to either self-identify, or participate in these studies. I of course accept that normally, or predominantly straight men can experience homosexual drive due to environment.

Comment #238945 by kkelly on August 28, 2008 at 7:05 pm

876, Yes, I'm aware of that and it's moot. 70% of the babies exposed to the biological factors do not develop the brain traits that are strongly correlated with gayness. How can you not see that that is neither here nor there?

85. Channel 4 announces return of Undercover Mosque

Comment #238939 by kkelly on August 28, 2008 at 6:55 pm

Uh, no, (in our hypothetical) the indicator is 100% determined by biology, when it occurs...which is 30% of the time that the biological factor is present. If these indicators correlate strongly with gayness, and where causation is logical to infer since behavior is a product of the brain, then gayness is strongly biological. So of self-identified gays, gayness is largely biological. If you want to convince people, come up with a good explanation of why only these types of gays are more likely to self-identify, or participate in the studies.

Comment #238923 by kkelly on August 28, 2008 at 6:29 pm

869, No, if ALL cases of gayness correlate with a trait that can only be biologically determined (it doesn't matter how likely the biological factor is to lead to the trait), then ALL gayness is biological.

88. Channel 4 announces return of Undercover Mosque

Comment #238919 by kkelly on August 28, 2008 at 6:27 pm

867, Yes, that's obvious, but why would these gay men be more likely than the others to self-identify as gay? Or to participate in the study?

90. Channel 4 announces return of Undercover Mosque

Comment #238913 by kkelly on August 28, 2008 at 6:04 pm

You're putting the cart before the horse. At first I thought you meant trait X as the brain traits, but you meant it as gayness. But we USE brain traits as evidence to determine the extent of biological causation of a trait.

Biology causes these brain traits 100% of the time, these brain traits are strongly, probably less then 100%, correlated with gayness.

edit: you editted, and your question is a bit different now. Yes biological factor A (gene, gestatonal hormones) leads to this brain traits/gayness package 30% of the time, but if all cases of gayness are in this package, then gayness is 100% biological.
