51. Animal Science Without Evolution

Creationists definitely have an advantage here - the creation story was made at the level of children. Cant expect your average 9yo to have a bachelors in evolutionary biology.

So, given there is debate about the subject and that children dont have the knowledge to fully consider this crap, why is the creation story allowed to be published to children?

Seems like brainwashing 101 to me. So sad that creationists have to go to that level. They should try playing with the grown ups.

With the geneaologies - what I want to know is how Adam comes out of the Garden of Eden and knows how to calculate years? I know when I leave a job they usually give me a parting gift, something small, a calendar maybe?

Even God is a cheap employer!!!

Its near impossible to bring the "faith believer" back into a reasonable argument. It seems the more a person with faith is confronted by facts, the more they retreat into their "God" shell.

Atheism has been laughed at through the centuries, but now it is taking its place as a valid belief. Do we, as atheists, seek to convert our brother and sister humans? No. That is religions show.

Therefore, it is logical that an atheist will not seduce others into it's fold. Accordingly, a good atheist is put up for his good arguments (dawkins) or rhetoric (hitchens :P). Perhaps we will see an "atheist preacher" that can convert people to this way of thinking - personally, I'd prefer people to find it by themselves.

Its pretty easy for us to pour scorn on these people from our highly educated and technologically advanced societies. Just remember that this is where we came from and that any of you, without your education, could have been as deluded as these people.

I have sympathy for the victims and their families for their loss. I also have sympathy for the murderers who are motivated by their fear into this behaviour.

Hopefully, the shining light of reason will extend to this village one day, and all places in the world which are shrouded in the darkness of ignorance. Until then we should lament, but scorn is perhaps too much.

Can we please stop referring to people as "pro-life" - that phrase is a misleading euphemism which is technically illogical as we do not know their opinions in relation to all "life".

They should be referred to as the "anti-abortion" lobby.

After all - they are against the act of abortion. They could still be in favour of the death penalty. As we do not know their opinion in that regard "pro-life" may be misleading and technically, incorrect.

Again - how can class of person that is defined by not believing in something then be said to believe in anything. Surely the correction should be....

People who stop stop believing in everything the Church says about God don't believe in nothing until they've applied some critical thought to it, in the interim they believe in anything [except for everything the Church says about God].

.... which is starting to get ridiculous !!!!

"Shermer, who describes himself as spiritual and agnostic

This is just completely untrue - here he says:

I do not believe in God
so he's not an agnostic he's an atheist. "

The definiton of atheist is "person without God" at its most base form. Surely an agnostic, who does not support or deny the existence of God, still falls within the definiton of atheist?

I dont think you can cover your bets on this one.

Anyway, the point of contradition is being "spiritual" and "agnostic". How can you have belief in the spiritual but be neither able to confirm or deny it?

"You'll forgive me for wheeling out for another appreciation of G.K. Chesterton's old saw that those who stop believing in God don't believe in nothing, they believe in anything"

That statement isnt even logically coherent. Surely, a class of people that (by definition) do not believe in God cannot be said to believe in anything. That is, unless God is not a "thing".

Ironic how the faithful lack the ability to review their own statements but pour scorn on those "outside the group".

I dont get it, who are Resistance resisting - Free trade?

Usually someone "resists" an oppresive force - are we expected to believe that an image (in their terms) of a "naked woman on it with her legs spread like a prostitute" is oppresive?

If you dont like the logo, dont buy the coffee.

Ironically, by trying to restrict free trade, Resistance = the oppressor (!?)
