51. Richard Dawkins' Report Card

Comment #17033 by poppythinks on January 10, 2007 at 8:48 am

this book looks like real rubbish, if you want a seriously good laugh take a look at the Buggs
comments on ID.....(home page, this site)
i mean seriously, would you even bother to buy
a 'book' that looks like it's cobbled together
by people who just want to discredit other people
who were more famous than them. there's a lot of
sour grapes going down nowadays...
'school reports' can also be written by people with 'beliefs' and perhaps RD has been chosen
to be humiliated by someone who doesn't like his views........not my idea of fun, anyway...

dear steven
most excellent letter.
i too got TGD for 'xmas' and want everyone to read it (without the neckache of course).
i am delighted too that there is so much good humour and wit on this site, a little haven of cool people, whose contributions keep me amused
on a daily basis.
as for g.burger's animation - well that is sooooooh great too....
keep it up everyone...give reason a chance.

having been emotionally stirred to come out my spiderhole i would like to ask martin levin
what he is really on about, behind the on-the-fence-hidden-agenda waffle.
and poor ole gimlibengloin, 'scared' and off to bed by it all.....well gimz, nothing to fear on this site, except perhaps 'the truth'.....
and as for me, i'm harmless, don't kill flies, or
spiders or even people with bad ideas.......
wish i was a horror-film maker tho'....just imagine 'Attack of the Atheists' or 'Out of the Spiderholes and into the.....'

54. Secular fundamentalists are the new totalitarians

having read tobias' article and most of the comments here and on a very long list at the guardian site i sent the following to them:
i'm beginning to wonder about the meaning of words like 'tolerance' and 'respect' and 'rude' and 'polite' in the context of these debates (which i hope will run and run...).
being 'pc' doesn't work either tobias - like religion, you are taught to bottle up your feelings, so at best, years of therapy to
look forward to or anger management.....
to be perhaps 'impolite', tobias - your piece of writing is all several column centimetres and
no substance, why don't you just 'come out' and tell us what you really believe as a christian? at least that would be an 'honest' read.
i evolved towards atheism from a religious background, every 'atheist', or whatever they choose to call themselves, will have a different
story.
the truth is, as you can see by the clarity of many 'atheist' responses to your thoughts, we are simply not afraid of 'god' or wish to be
told by any 'god-fearing-servant-of-god' how to be good etc.
(plus we now have forums on the internet and books like The God Delusion to inspire far more interesting ideas...).
like others on this page, i would recommend Dawkins book as seriously good food for thought... and if you don't like it, well you write a transatlantic best-seller that tells us all why we should all think like you.

56. Atheists challenge the religious right

Comment #16196 by poppythinks on January 5, 2007 at 12:35 pm

hi happyprimate n everyone

i'm with you on the media attention Dawkins & co
have stirred up- more, more, more!

and what on earth is 'irreligious intolerance'?
these are words surely from people in tight
corners - the last thing the world needs is
double negatives - only the most convoluted
brains think them........

and as for notheist or atheist or bright or
freethinker....i love you all for choosing
sanity.
me, i'm a catheist (cat-worshipper and atheist)
and i do love controfursy.......

57. Beliefwatch: Blasphemy (Challenge)

Comment #15761 by poppythinks on January 2, 2007 at 3:59 pm

hi macronencer
don't get fed up so early on, there's a long way to go yet.........
it's never going to be simple when you are blaspheming against such convoluted ideas.
and we are all coming from different places...
the point of all this is to let all our voices be heard, and this topic made me laugh more than any other so far.
let's have some fun with it, because its one of the best ways to affect change, and that is what we all want innit?.....

excellent news, congratulations on your fame/notoriety professor RD - and being 'good' and 'bad' - so, you're well-rounded also........!
thanks so much for TGD - best read ever.

as for the 'rude' debate - well i'm prepared to be very very 'rude' about what i think while this planet is governed by destructive godders.

along with religious indoctrination i was taught to be polite and quiet. No more.
yours obnoxiously, with lots of smilies
