However, the following quoted from the caught my attention:
"Mr. Obama is also proposing $500 million per year to provide summer learning for 1 million poor children to help close achievement gaps for students."
If the achievements promoted by faith-based programs are related to "creationism" or any form of "intelligent design," the results will be a society rated as a bunch of dumb-asses.

Well, I think we might agree that the enlisted ranks of the military are mostly poor, likely less educated, and maybe even lower in the IQ area.
It should not surprise anyone that these soldiers are indoctrinated. I am not sure, but did Hitler do the same thing in his military, and did Hitler indoctrinate the kids into the brown shirts? I guess the Christians are trying to do the same thing to the children of America that the Islamic do to their children. Please let me know if I am wrong, but I think I am right.
We non-religious know what we must do to save America.
My question is: Are we non-religious going to wait for the self-inflicted horror by religion to occur in America before we act. Unfortunately, I think we will wait until we to are also victims of the religious.

"First up was Michael Behe, the intelligent design proponent and biochemist, who argued in his Amazon blog that Lenski's work was in fact excellent evidence for intelligent design."
My thoughts...
There is nothing intelligent about a design that has decease, hunger, starvation, crime, racism, sexism, phobias, poverty, hate, oppression, war, death, and suffering while claiming that the intelligent designer loves us. Maybe the intelligent designer is a pervert, who is also incompetent.

Indoctrination of children by the religious... Well, this certainly is not new.
The Christians in America spend millions (probably billions) trying to indoctrinate young minds with the lies of creationism, intelligent design, while pushing for activist radical fundamentalist judges on our courts to legislate the same Christian propaganda from the bench.
However, all that said, reasoning people know they can put their kids in purely secular schools, and these same people can make sure their kids are taught the lies and the horrors religion has committed against humanity over the centuries, not to mention that the secular schools need also teach real science rather than the hocus pocus (poof, there it is) science of religions like Christianity.

I propose the following plan for intelligent design, or as I call it UID (Unintelligent design).
1) All persons promoting intelligent design must register with the state
2) All persons promoting intelligent design must cancel all forms of their insurance for themselves, and all family members who believe in intelligent design
3) Forbid all persons promoting intelligent design to seek doctors and emergency medical personnel for medical needs for themselves and their family members who believe in intelligent design
4) All persons promoting intelligent design must discontinue using all things science has created for humanity like: clean water, environmentally comfortable homes, homes, cures for deceases, safe foods, technical benefits, mechanical benefits, and a whole host other of incredible achievements.
What do my ideas say to those promoting intelligent design? My ideas simply challenge the advocates of intelligent design to rely on their god(s) for all the things they claim their god(s) can do. Let the religious experience how fast the quality of their lives deteriorate for themselves and their children.
The religious do not need the achievements of humankind. The god(s) of intelligent design will save (for example) their children from starvation and polio. One intelligent design wish/prayer and everything will be all better.
If we take those pushing intelligent design off the health care system, the insurance rates for the rest of us will likely drop dramatically. As for welfare…well, no more fire-breathing faithful (E.g. quot; Baptists) in soup kitchens preaching to people to pray for a bowl of watered-down soupy nourishment to be saved. Instead, we can take that money and put it in jobs.
Intelligent design, to me, means push religion. I say require the religious to put their promotion of intelligent design where their push (mouth) is. If the god(s) of intelligent design is/are all-powerful, she does not need taxpayer money to accomplish anything. An old fashion hocus-pocus wave of her hand should do the trick
I ask the following of the religious who preach intelligent design. If your damn god is so intelligent, why cannot she save humanity (including innocent children) from suffering from the horrible realities of religion listed below?
1) Decease
2) Hunger and death by starvation
3) Hate and oppression by the religious for differences
4) Natural disasters
5) there are so many more, but ...

You know, my brother is just the kind of person who would try to use the rapture website BS to attempt to terrorize me into joining him in his insane beliefs. However, like many folks, I run email blocks, and I do block my brother's email for years now. I guess I will not receive the message about rapture. OH, DARN, I will not be saved.
BACK TO THE ARTICLE
"They must continually log in to the system. The team is spread out as far apart in the US as is possible to prevent against more than one member being taken out by, attack, natural disaster, or epidemic."
Two great ideas for the rupture (I mean rapture) website:
1) Although I am atheist, I pray their website is attacked by viruses, spy-ware, spam, and fraud. Hey, maybe a guy with a backhoe will dig up and cut their cable.
Okay folks, I am sorry. The rapture is already fraudulent. My mistake :)
2) Convince the Christians to implement Multifactor Authentication. Then we can determine their login member Ids, go to their website, and clobber their member passwords using their own IDs. This will be fun and it will effectively block the rapture messages at the same time.
Maybe we can cause a rupture in their connection with their god, which really should not be that difficult. OH! I am sorry again. There is no connection with their god because no gods exist.
Religion will cause a rupture, not the rapture.

1) All creationists must register with the state
2) All creationists must cancel all forms of their insurance for themselves, and all family members
3) All creationists must be forbidden to seek doctors and emergency medical personnel for medical needs for themselves and their family members

Comment #191396 by dragonfirematrix on June 10, 2008 at 8:33 pm
McCain, your god does not exist and therefore cannot fix the problems in America, or anywhere. Problems include, but are not limited to:
1) The Abrahamic orgasmic love for hate, oppression of the masses, and war
2) Education is going down hill with the false notions of creationism and intelligent design, resulting in the "dumbing-down" of America. How many states now…?
3) Health care "left behind," particularly for the aged and the very young
4) What jobs? "Do you want fries with that?"
5) High energy costs (gas and diesel) so the GOP chosen ones can live lavishly off the labor of the poor and middle class
6) Poor reputation around the planet
7) America needs Real science, not fantasies (beliefs)
8) An America for all different kinds of people, not just the chosen (by Christians) ones
9) Speaking of Christianity, how about "love thy neighbor as thy self," even if the neighbor is different. I guess (Mr. McCain) your Christian god forgot that part. Well, so much for that Christian dogma about "intelligent design." In fact, Mr. McCain, I think your god should explain "intelligent design" as it relates to deformities, decease, natural disasters, poverty, hunger, starvation, crime, hate, oppression, war, suffering, and death. All this said: Do we really want an adherent of this described god as president of the United State of America? Yes, I know he may be kissing the asss of the religious for votes :)
10) Moving on… what about truth, justice, civil rights, civil liberties, human rights, and let us not forget the poor. Where does the McCain god stand on these things?
May McCain and the GOP conservatives choke to death trying to explain their position on the above list?
Imagine the chosen ones all being religious fundamentalists in black robs. NOT GOOD!

SAMEO, SAMEO from the religious, but I just cannot pass up commenting.
I just knew that the author of the article would get around to claiming (or strongly imply) that Christianity was the only true religion, and that the bible was the only explanation of existence.
I find the author presuming and extremely arrogant. I wonder how many huge numbers of non-Christian evolved people on this evolved planet in this evolved universe he has insulted.
The author of this creationist Halmark moment (of course) did not detail all the horrors created by his supposed version of god. Shall we name a few for the record: Decease, suffering, hunger, starvation, natural disasters, cosmic disorganization (things crashing into other things), oppression in the name of religion, war in the name of religion, death in the name of religion, hatred (possibly a prerequisite for religion), etc. It sounds like the god of the bible was incompetent. I suppose that if we were on drugs, we could claim him to be real. As for many of us, fortunately we are not drugs, but if we were, we might say: "I am sorry officer. God told me to mutilate the girl in the name of Islam, and burn her parents to death in the name of Christianity. Can I go now, so I can do it again?"
The imaginary gods just do not do it for me. Science fiction is better entertainment. I will stick with science, empirical evidence, reason, and proof.

From the article, two quotes:
"The fundamentalists have been poor advertisements for the spiritual life."
The above quoted line is an understatement. The fundamentalists have been a poor advertisement for any kind of life. Fundamentalists wage war against education, science, civil rights, civil liberties, human rights, and freedom. The religious have no interest in reason and freedom. The religious only want to force their fantasies on others.
It does not take a rocket scientist to understand that reason and science has done incredibly more (in its short history) for humanity than all the religions together have ever done for humanity in all the combined existence.
"Religion will come under the kind of scrutiny over the next month I wish it could be spared."
Spare the religious no pain. Religion should come under scrutiny worldwide, with no exceptions. The religious generally treat non-believers and differences with disdain. I know it is the wrong thing to do, but we non-religious should treat the religious as they treat those they do not like.
Let we non-believers take reason, education, science, medicine, and all other endeavors to higher levels for all humankind.

Other theories about multiple occurrences of our universes are topics of repeating discussion on boards. I believe the universe is endless, and I believe the universe is forever repeating. I do not believe there was ever a parent universe. The universe is endless, and the universe has no boarders. The universe simply exists because it is impossible for the state of "nothing" to exist. The Abrahamic god(s) did not create the universe. The universe just is.
Below is the text of my Haydron Collider post:
I think this Hadron experiment is great. I am glad to see that science is continuing to understand, improve, and prove our existence.
However…just a thought…
I have often wondered if the Big Bang has happened an endless number of times and will forever happen an endless number of times. I just cannot believe the Big Bang happened only once!
I think about it this way. The universe has always been here and it will always be here. I believe the universe is infinitely recycling. I do not believe the universe came from "nothing," and I do not believe "nothing" will ever exist. I here the matter/anti-matter discussion, but how can there be nothing? It seems to me that there should always be "something," and that "something" is forever evolving and changing.
Please, hang in here with me for a minute :)
I believe the universe is born, lives, dies, and it is reborn over immense cycles of time. During these immense cycles of time, the universe goes from Big Bang to expansion, from expansion to stabilization, from stabilization to contraction, from contraction to immense compression (BDBH), from the BDBH to instability, and finally the BDBH commits another Big Bang.
I do not believe in gods, but the next time around, insects may be the super intelligence at the top of the new Earth's food chain, and their god maybe Mothra! Hey, folks, just a little humor for what is likely to be the reality of the universe and our existence.

Nothing like a nice peaceful religious extremist mixing his religious beliefs with state, and passing along (via schools) his religious beliefs to future generations to do the same to their children. Because of religion, another child could die the same way in the year 2050.
I suspect the teacher will be acquitted by some Islamic court (church plus state) for defending the faith.
We certainly see with little mental effort what the Islamic do to their people for not following their religion, but can we see what is going on in America? Christians are trying to force their religious in every aspect of American life. If Christians take control of American government, I have no doubt that Christians will ultimately behave towards humanity the same as the Islamic. In 2060, the Christians might use dunking stools, impaling, or purification by fire to punish children for not keeping the faith.
I do not know how we are going to do it, but religion must be removed to save our planet.

I bet if we atheists declared atheism a religion and pushed the teaching of unintelligent design in Christian and public schools, the Christians would start a Crusade against atheists. George W. Bush (and the goons from the religious right) would go on a tiraid, and maybe even want to start a war with us.
Oh, I am sorry. The Christians have already declared a Crusade against atheists, and the Christians have already declare a war on science. Intelligent Design is all about pushing the Christian God on children. Christians are trying to get the courts to legislate (from the bench) their Crusade against non-Christians. What better place to start than the brainwashing of young impressionable minds. Did not Hitler use this kind of technique with the young people in Nazi Germany?
Oh, I almost forgot. If the Christians push (by judges legislating from the bench) their GDBS (guess what this means) in public schools, will Christian schools require by law the teaching of atheism and other non-Christian religions in Christian schools? Christian children should also get a well-rounded world-view of all cultures and beliefs, and a good brainwashing of non-Christian beliefs. OH, PERSECUTION, PERSECUTION THE CHRISTIANS SCREAM!
Oh, yes, and please let us not forget the profound wisdom taught by the Church of The Flying Spaghetti Monster," Zues, and Thor. You know America just might want to start worshipping its only true god, MONEY.

All this push for bible BS on people sounds Islamic style to me.
Before it is over, America is going to see a backlash and revolt against the Christians, and even then I do not believe the Christians will get the point.
I believe most people want to be tolerant. However, I am sure that tolerance is only to a point. I doubt most Americans WILL tolerate being indoctrinated what to believe.
The Christians will likely understand the point of the backlash only after it is too late, and then they will claim persecution. That point made is likely to be very, very sharp in the end, and we have the sharpest minds on our side.

To quote a now famous quote: "a mind is a terrible thing to waste."
The hate filled Abrahamic religions (which, of course, include the god fearing Christians) are destroying the Earth and our humanity one mind at a time.
I wonder how long will we reasoning people will permit religion to destroy our world before our instinct of self preservation drives we tolerant people to protect our lives, our children, and our freedom?

This is another great achievement of science.
Finding life on other planets is going to happen sooner or later. I just hope it is sooner, so I can watch and listen to the religious vent their hatred against the truth.
Real science rules! It will find life. It will help life. It will eventually create life!
Science is the truth, the light, and the way. No human comes unto the truth except by proof.

Great lecture.
Richard is brilliant!
Richard, please launch another new front in America. America needs a lot more of your help. The Lynchburg, VA area is in serious need of enlightenment.

The part of discussion about people dying of decease rather than old age is actually under the control of our governments. In America, religion is far too much an influence in government. If Christians and other radical religionists continue to their war against science, the efforts of science to improve humanities health and welfare will be an uphill war.
The only way I see improve the condition of humanity is to remove religion from the human equation, which will not be an easy task. In order to stop the assault upon the health and welfare of humanity, we must remove religion from Earth's life equation. This requirement is not a pleasant prospect, but is rather a necessity for the success for happy future generations.
As the discussion addresses, we can do better, and WE CAN DO BETTER. Let us seek the "brave new world." As that universal STAR TREK phrase goes: "to go where no one has gone before."
Of course, we can create the audit controls to make scientific achievements a positive impact on humanity, including the creation of new more intelligent beings. However, the success of our aspirations is completely dependent on the political party we choose to lead us.
One way to fight the religious in government decisions is continuing to encourage the support of science from private sources.
THE CHOICE, OF COURSE, IS OURS.

I don't have time for the videos yet, but I did read the introduction to the article, and one very hateful and repulsive assessment quoted from the text stood out:
"They say the Bible is the definitive word of God and is literally true and are intolerant of other faiths."
This sounds Isalamic to me. This one quote sounds like another attempt by the Christians at druging humanity into killing poeple for their version of god.
I hope that one day the Abrahamic religions will be arrested, imprisoned, treated horribly, and executed for blasphemy against humanity.

Hey! This is America!
The GOP (Christian right) promotes the Neanderthal religious beliefs of Christians. That is why Ameirca cannot advance anymore.
America is returning to the beliefs of the Neanderthals, so its children can suffer the lack of education, suffer from decease, suffer from the lack of real education, and suffer from the abosolute hatred and filth of the Abrahamic religions.
