Just thinking out loud here, and ignore me if this makes the conversation too complicated (sorry to horn in)...
What about dark matter with regards to Fermi's Paradox. We are just now starting to figure that part of our universe, yet it supposedly makes up at least 80 or 90 % (set me straight here if you will) of the universe. Couldn't advanced civilizations be using that? If so, how would we know it?

JanChan says, in the order of pronouncement:
Those EPA laws have been a joke from the beginning and is screwing up America.
...the stupid EPA laws are a big cause of our trade deficit.
Ozone depletion is a greater threat than Global Warming (so much greater is the threat of ozone depletion that it can only be measured in terms of a logarithm scale).
...the ozone layer is the only reason why it's possible for life on land.
...endangered species laws are bad Science, bad for Economics, and bad for the people. The only thing it's good at is making good politics.
All I said is that scientifically ozone depletion is of much more concern to us than global warming is.
...I repeat again, ozone depletion is magnitudes of times greater in importance than global warming for the survival of life on land. ANY life on land.
...I said, not act to protect the environment at the expense of ourselves.
ESA (endangered species act) is protecting almost nothing at our expense.
Ozone is the single thing that is keeping every single land organism alive.

After rereading the article again...
a not so final word here,
Kauffman is not a supernaturalist, and uses no terms that point exclusively to supernaturalism...
Kauffman allows the idea of dualism to creep into the meaning of what he is saying by using loaded terms such as sacred and saying that 'consciousness is a thing', when in reality it's more of a description, in about the same way that in the phrase 'two apples' 'two' is a description and not a thing...
Please feel free to rip this apart, and I'll do my best to not do a DP on everyone here... ;-)

I have reread the entire article, and it's more frustrating now than before. I can't seem to pin it down, but I still think Paulson is playing a sleight of hand here. He's a dualist (IMO), but he doesn't want to admit it, or can't...

From the article:
Well, Dawkins does not want to bridge that gap. He wants to convince those religious believers that they're wrong.-Emphasis mine.
Absolutely. But I think Richard is wrong. Not that there's a supernatural god. I think that there's something else. I think the creativity in nature is so stunning and so overwhelming that it's God enough for me, and I think it's God enough for many of us if we think about it. You see, Richard's view, and those of the new atheists, is simply not going to reach out and persuade those who hold to the standard Abrahamic religious views to consider something else. Whereas I hope what I'm saying may help create a new kind of sacred space.

Let’s consider the evolution of the brain as a lever. The environment it’s fulcrum. Change the position of the fulcrum (different inputs) and you get different outputs. The material hasn’t changed, in other words, evolution remains economical, but the results can change drastically…

I seem to be receiving a mixed message about your school taxation proposal...
One the one hand you stated:
...Yes we should get taxed to have public schools...
Well its also me being realistic because there is no way we would get rid of public education in this country...as though you don't want public education but are resigned to the fact of it's existence...
Why? I benefited from state education, why shouldn't I pay regardless of whether or not I have children. Business benefits from state education. Why shouldn't it carry part of the costs?

2) Schools is another one. Yes we should get taxed to have public schools but we should be allowed to send our children where we please. The child should have a check with him and schools should have to fight for them to attended their school. I also believe if you have no children then you should have to pay less in school taxes.
