51. 7 monks injured in clash over monastery

Comment #14203 by StephenH on December 21, 2006 at 1:24 pm

The serious side of this, i hope the girls kick up a fuss about this. Women are banned?

Good grief, would love to hear their justifications for this.

Presumably the same people that believe that all females are born in sin.

Absolute Poppycock !!

52. Richard Dawkins on the Mike Dickin Show

Comment #13572 by StephenH on December 18, 2006 at 1:31 pm

The man that normally calls James Whale and goes on and on about Jesus often sings the song that goes:

"Jesus loves me that i know
because the bible tells me so"

It's a rhyme that young children are usually indoctrinated with by religious parents

May i add one line to it?

"until i learn how to critically think"

The Yogic Flying "hopping" caller was very funny
When you see Tv footage of those people doing this "flying", i laugh even more

It's people crossed legged on some padded mats, and they bounce across the room on their backsides... Hmmm must try it sometime :)

Here is some YouTube Footage of Yogic Flying :)

53. Kim Hill interviews Richard Dawkins

The final comments from Richard Dawkins in the interview. The awful music in the shops at this time of year.

My thoughts go out to the shop workers who have to listen to infinite repeats of jingle bells and rudolph the rednose reindeer all day long. Not religious songs, but they sure get under your skin if you have to hear them through the day.

I mean they don't have to option to switch the speakers off. They can't walk away either

54. Sunday Sequence with William Crawley

Comment #12367 by StephenH on December 11, 2006 at 3:48 pm

Richard Dawkins asked if the complete audio was available including the last five minutes.

I've sent the last five minutes of this audio to Josh... as i recorded it on Sunday morning

With a "thought for the day" before... and a church service being broadcast right after the show.. it was a very strange listening experience

Cheers, Steve

55. When Atheists Have Their Say (5 Letters)

Comment #11615 by StephenH on December 6, 2006 at 12:41 am

Just reading through some of the comments here, caused me to get philisophical for a moment.

It still totally amazes me that we are all having these conversations, with the year 2007 almost here.

Debating whether God exists or not.

It totally amazes me how these sets of ancient religious instructions have persisted for so long. I guess that's fear based indoctrination for you

Perhaps simple, but i use the Loch Ness monster story.

If one hundred years go by, and no Loch Ness monster is found in the Loch, that includes sending boats over the Loch with modern underwater radar technology. Isn't that a pretty good sign, the Loch Ness monster does not exist ?

The God believers of course, have to turn to Spiritual subjects (itself, a controversial subject - the existence of the human soul?)

Making God 'invisible' - in their eyes, then makes God dis-provable

I'm feeling a little disappointed... humanity has not yet come of age

What will it take? Another one hundred years.
Several hundred clones of Carl Sagan, Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris and the rest

Reasons to be cheerful. I think society is gradually moving in the right direction... very very painfully slowly.

But then who said human evolution was quick

56. Remember, Remember, the Fifth of November...

Comment #8287 by StephenH on November 20, 2006 at 8:08 pm

I am listening to the audio file now.

First piece of info that is required to chase this up, is the person's name that was reading it out.

Second, it's obvious listening to it, he's reading it, either from a website or a sheet of paper.

I'd want to know what his source of information is

Can i just clarify. That doesn't sound like the opinions of presenters at Radio Devon, but of a guest that was invited to speak on a program, and they allowed his views.

I would take issue with what is written at the top of the page:

"Radio Devon disapproves of Richard Dawkins and "The God Delusion."

Presumably, Richard Dawkins could contact Radio Devon and arrange an interview on the station to rebut what was said here

It's not clear from the text, whether it is a Radio Devon Presenter speaking, or a religious guest spot on the station. It could have been something like "Thought for the Day" on Radio 4

58. Reading of The God Delusion in Philadelphia v2

There is a danger of becoming a little too 'self-assured' - The temptation of the audience to laugh before someone has finished making their point.
The way i see it, everyone is on a learning curve.

I think it's important not to be too dismissive. Some people are not confident speakers, and it takes some effort to make a point clearly

As Richard Dawkins says, generally society is moving in the right direction, with America and the Islamic World briefly taking a few steps backwards. Changes are going to be slow-paced. I think people are going to have to be very patient.
Religious beliefs are not going to be dismantled overnight

59. The rise of the 'New Atheists'

Comment #5642 by StephenH on November 10, 2006 at 8:28 am

It's no use saying "Bless You" or "God Bless" when you are talking to atheists. I do not believe in the existance of God, therefore there is no-one to neither save nor condemn me, once i pass off from this mortal coil.

I'm willing to talk person to person, but i get annoyed when believers bring fictional entities into an argument, as if to say "it's ok that you are non-believers, God will still forgive you"

I haven't done anything wrong, and i get very annoyed with those people that think everyone is born in sin. Even tiny one year old children have already sinned according to these delusions, i don't know what planet they are living on

60. Lawrence, Kansas : Speech

Comment #2932 by StephenH on October 24, 2006 at 5:26 pm

Richard at his very best.
During the part of his speech where he covered religion in Ireland, he paused, and there was complete silence in the building.

It was a serious moment, a moment perhaps where a lot of people realised how serious this issue is

61. Rachel Maddow Interviews Richard Dawkins

Comment #2359 by StephenH on October 20, 2006 at 8:17 pm

My thoughts excatly mndarwinist

I worry that some religious fundamentalist will be convinced Richard is Satan.

Especially now the gloves are well and truly off

He may need some bodyguards, in some parts of the world at least
