Islam has a real problem. But I really would have liked Hitchins to read out a paragraph from the Koran that tells it's followers to kill unbelievers as that is most undoubtably an example of a true hate crime.

Lets be fair and balanced.
But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither and slay them before me.

Comment #46157 by Goodwithwood on May 30, 2007 at 12:04 pm

Both Regent and Liberty Universities pose one of the greatest threats this country has ever faced. Their blatantly stated goals are to replace our constitution with their interpretation of the bible (Treason). Ignoring these people will have catastrophic consequences for the US and the whole planet.

Bizarro

You are simply wrong. A bottle of Joy dish soap and some gasoline is all that it takes to make basic napalm.
You are pushing what you call the relatively harmless nature of the bombs. In fact the opposite is true. Napalm sticks to what it touches and can not be doused with water. Yes,it burns slowly. This insures that the victum suffers great pain as it burns it's way into ther flesh and death would be better than living with the wounds caused by napalm.
Conventional bombs mame or kill instantlly. Napalm makes sure that you die a slow painfull death.
In the Vietnam War napalm bombs were called the most affective anti-persanel weapon avalable.
Don't believe me? Just look it up. What Wikipedia has to say should be enough to convince you. This is a hideous

This one makes my blood boil. This place should be burned to the ground. Imagine what all that high tech imagery does to the brains of children. This place should be a crime against humanity. Fuck these dumb assed idiots. When free speech poisons the minds of children it should be taken as a serious threat to society and publicly exposed as bullshit buy the media and all available resources. This should not be taken lightly, it is a real threat to the future of the US. What ever it takes, we need to put a stop to this.

While we are fending off the teaching of creationism in public schools the creatinists are going through the back door with "school vouchers". This is the new trend of state govrnments paying parents to put their kids in private schools. Because the tuition isn't payed in full only the privileged and the ones willing to do anything to censor evolution take this option. Open your eyes.

Comment #39785 by Goodwithwood on May 11, 2007 at 11:19 pm

WOW! I never even heard of such a thing till now. I understand that some Muslim cultures "circumcise" women buy cutting away their clitoris. ....WTF?
Personally I don't feel sexually satisfied till I have made my girl climax. Many times this requires a clitoris.
In my rejection of religion I have rejected irrational cultural traditions just as vagariously as religious dogma. There's not much difference. Question every thing.
Speaking of traditional religious non-sense, I want my foreskin back, dammit. Am I missing something like a circumcised clit. I mean......Why? Oh why would they cut me up when I had no say in the decision?

69. Intellectual Diversity or Intellectual Insult?

Comment #39461 by Goodwithwood on May 10, 2007 at 6:36 pm

Science has been debunking religion for centuries now. Religion keeps having to reinterpret their holy books to remain convincing. Their problem is and always has been educating the masses, teaching rational empirical thought to the people is universal acid to religion. It creates enlightenment.
Maybe the reason the US government doesn't take educating their children seriously is because educated people would never vote for them. Ignorance is what keeps the sheeple in line.
So now the argument from creationists is to claim that faith/ignorance is somehow the opposite of what it really is by calling it intellectual.
Conservative thought can be intellectual, if only you can purge yourselves of the radical religious element that poisons your cognitive abilities.

70. The moment a teenage girl was stoned to death for loving the wrong boy

Comment #38008 by Goodwithwood on May 6, 2007 at 4:21 pm

Yezidi
From what I've researched Yezidi has more in common with Islam than it does Christianity.

Yezidi's centrial god is Malaki Ta''us. It's actually the head angel of 7 angels. He is yahwe's representative on earth. He had a hand in creating Adam and Eve.
I'm not going to go into detail here but basically Yezidi has it's roots in Persian religions such as Zoroastrianism. But of corse Christianity has it's roots in Judaism and Zoroastrianism as does Islam. Yazidi seems to be a mixture of all Abrihamic and Zoroastrian myths, but mostly Islam.
Because religion is a reflection of the culture that created it I see the practice of stoning as rooted in culture and turned into unquestionable dogma by religion. It's the fear of questioning one's religion/faith that perpetuates the ignorance required to believe in dogma. And a real fear that is, as this girl found out.

Comment #36303 by Goodwithwood on April 30, 2007 at 9:28 pm

It's really Ironic how the military tried to used Pat Tillman as a hero by lying about his death and even more ironic that he was killed by his fellow soldiers, because Pat Tillman was an atheist.

I think that there is more to his death than is being revealed.

Comment #34669 by Goodwithwood on April 24, 2007 at 9:06 pm

Rationalists seem to be out numbered by those that think this is a popularity survey. It is about the most influential people regardless of how negatively disgusting that person may be. This is why GW rates so low yet he has influenced the entire planet greatly. Just because it is a negative influence doesn't make it less so. The results are irrelevant to influence, but I'm glade to see Dawkins up there in a popularity survey.

The natives her in the US were very superstitious and polytheistic.

I don't want to shoot you down cause I understand your admiration of some of the native religions here. Yet not all were peaceful nations many were war-centered but all were surely god worshipers.
What I admire is their simplistic view that was tinted with common sense. Indeed most of the native nations of the Americas had a natural "Morality" that was lacking in there dogmatic Christian conquerors. Being polluted by monotheistic Judaism and all.

Good post. I understand your point and I struggle with this daily. It's not a big struggle, I just some times have to remind myself of the world I live in and most of all to EMPATHIZE with my fellow humans. Anger and hate only hurts myself and the people around me. If exposing religion for what it is, is my goal then ridicule, pride, and contempt will get me no where. Empathy is my only chance at converting anyone. And remaining happy in the process.

The founders and writers of the US constitution were thinkers of the Enlightenment. It is based on Enlightenment Principles and is a rejection of a theocratic monarchy. A truly beautiful document written by rational thinking scholars in an age of critical thinking. What happened?
Yet I fear for it's future, cause it seems that god is trumping the Constitution.

This is so cool. There seems to be an extra spring in my step lately. I think I'm actually experiencing some moments of optimism and hope. This backlash coming from science and rational thought is encouraging. I have felt so alone for so long that I really had lost hope for this planet and it's life forms. Keenan, once you add evidence to this equation you can no longer call it "faith". Faith is defined as beliefe in something without evidence. It's simple. When we start broadening the meaning of a word, communication suffers from ambiguity.
