Why are you so offended? You didn't write it.

No, but anyone educated under the American school system gets painted by your brush there whether you intended it or not...

But still...like I said in the rest of the post, nevermind...

Why you snotty limey son of a....!!!

...no...public schooling failed me utterly, and I didn't have the grades or money for college, my mind is completely self built with internet and books...

...and I seem to have more lights on upstairs than a lot of folks that went to college...

Okay, fine, it's a fair cop...

Two things notoriously absent from the ten commandments.
Y'know, the ten commandments Mike Huckabee says "pretty much cover everything".

Sorry, I did not mean to sound provocative. I meant that I could irritate you more by disagreeing with you if you were up to it.

No, I'm really not.

If my batteries were fully charged, then y'know, we could smash each other through walls like a couple Terminators, but the mess with ThermoThug really drained my meter down.

Evolution and Intelligent design are never defined, and Stein shies away from any question remotely involved with the factual accuracy of either.

Well, from what I've seen of the trailer at least, the thrust of the film seems to be a big bottom lip puffed, sniffle voiced, martyrdm routine for creationism being picked on by big mean science.

Morons will swallow it like candy.

Comment #127891 by Diacanu on February 15, 2008 at 5:20 pm

Steve-

Yes, but what about the unobtainium?

Alcubierre's warp field requires a form of exotic negative-mass matter which has never been created, nor observed.

Chris Van der Broek revised Alcubierre's metric so that the warp is essenially a thin wormhole, thus minimizing the need for this negative mass matter down to a few pounds or so, but then, you still have to produce this stuff, and then you have the added problem of how do you squeeze your spaceship through the eye of the needle?

You forgot the vital reason 4.

Men who hate women usually have some sort of Norman Bates thing going on with their mother.

I think working out how to fire an Uzi might be too complicated. Perhaps impaling himself on a rusty spike might be better?

Spike, road flare cigar, hydroflouric acid enema, playing chicken with a steamroller with him on a tricycle, whatever.
So long as those poor molecules are liberated.
They never asked for this.
They could've been a foam cooler, or an inert carbon rod.
But no, cruel fate made them into the beefaroni and sugar cereals that gradually conglomerated into ThermoThug.
It's a crime that must be rectified.

For you?

If I were a betting man, I'd wager a protracted death of some sort of wasting disease, lonely and forgotten in the filthy sub-basement of an abandoned building in a bad neighborhood with a meth head's hand down your pants seeking warmth.

Then, your horrible carcass will be body slammed into a pine box, burnt in a furnace, and then your ashes violated for weeks with cat piss and cigarette butts before finally being scooped into a Dixie cup, and carelessly being tossed into a landfill.

1243. Debate between Richard Dawkins and Madeline Bunting

Comment #127137 by Diacanu on February 15, 2008 at 1:23 am

Steve Zara-

I am talking about how things may have looked centuries ago, when mechanisms by which design could appear in nature were not understood.

Ah, but then we get into the navel gazing debate over how much intervention is theist/deist.

If the deist god imprinted design into the first cause, it would still be non-interventionist past the creation line.

If he meddles after the first cause, then maybe theism...

Ehh...I still gotta go with deism by lumping all creation variants together.

Hitchens does when the christians pull back from dogma, and I gotta agree with him.

A theist God minus mythology would be like a voice or series of prophetic pictures in your head that helps you paint, or write, and you chalk it up to being plugged into the cosmic universal lifeforce, or somesuch.

Eh, I don't mind a hippie God like that, that's pretty harmless, and even I've had those moments in my life.

I just wanted to get it out there, just like the religious believed their worldview was the end all be all, so science believes the same.

Well, unless the laws of physics flip upside down, and we're headed for an age of magic, there is nothing after science.

Sorry.

Adorable rants, but fruitless.

Nice try though.

1245. Debate between Richard Dawkins and Madeline Bunting

Comment #127124 by Diacanu on February 15, 2008 at 1:02 am

Steve Zara-

No, Steve, again, I gotta take issue.

Merely thinking there's a creator is deism.

Adding on anything after that is theism.

And "merely", adding that the deist god is also interventionist naturally leads to dogma, because when and where does he intervene, and what does he want of us?
Answering those questions creates religions, and we're back into the mess again.

So, yeah, the whole religion thing, besides deism, is theism.

...but theism itself is not intrinsically ridiculous.

I disagree.

An interventionist god with anthropomorphized desires laid out in human terms is indeed intrinsicly ridiculous.
